Added the “something” my vivarium was missing!

Recently bought my ball python a new enclosure made of all black PVC. Tried as I might, I could not decorate it enough to make it look… Satisfying. I got two of the 24x24 pieces (used from Amazon Returns). Upon arrival there was no damage but I did clean them really well with some reptisafe cleaner to protect my girl. They fit easily into the vivarium - I used two small pieces of Velcro on each to hold them against the back of the enclosure, allowing them to be removed when I do a deep clean. Since they’re styrofoam, I was easily able to stick some beautiful succulents into them to add some more texture! I really cannot complain about the looks of them. I’m never close enough to them to notice anything out of the ordinary that some other reviewers mention. I will say my styrofoam seems to be more compressed, therefore I’m not seeing any future issues with bacteria. They hold up well to misting. I’ll update if there’s any issues with mold/mildew.

Not true to color

I minus 1 star because the foam is not a desert sand color like in the pic. I took another star off because for a piece of foam and some paint this is as little pricey it probably only cost the seller like 2 dollars to make. Now on to the pros. I have a 90 gallon tank 48x22 now I bought a 36×18 because I dont have a lid on my tank [because all lids block part of the uvb enabling your reptile to not absorb enough] so I didnt want to risk my beardie climbing up and escaping and the length doesnt come in a 48in. I ended up with too much space to cover so I ended up cutting the backdrop in half and putting it on each end of my tank so my beardie can stop fighting her reflection. My depth is 18in deep so the 36 was a perfect size. I ended buying a cheap background from ebay for $12 and I absolutely love the end result and so does my girl blue. Her favorite chill spot is the the top of the foam, she climbs the foam all the way to the top and rests there until she sees it's feeding time or when its sleeping time, she sleeps in her all living hideaway cave which I highly recommend! UPDATE: Does not do well for your growing dragon. My girl is about a year now and when she tries to climb the foam crumbles leaving black balls all over that I have to constantly clean up. The last picture doesnt look so bad because Ive cleaned up most of the debris. I noticed she doesnt climb up it anymore because it doesnt hold her weight. I thought about glueing it but then if she poops and it falls through the cracks [like she previously has done] then I'll be left with a stinky tank.. then i thought about velcro dots but then it'll leave too much space between the glass and foam.. I think ill end up throwing this out soon.

My bearded dragon loves it!

Recently upgraded my bearded dragons cage and it had no background. She was used to looking out the sides and back so I figured I'd see if that helped cheer her up some and she loves it. She climbs it some and it had held up to her claws and weight. Will order more to go all the way around the sides and back.

Great in freshwater fish tank too!

I have used these in several freshwater fish tanks without any toxicity or decay problems. They make a great inexpensive 3D background. Buy multiple that will yield a size the same or slightly larger than your tank back. It is easy to cut out, or "Thin" out areas for pump siphons, etc. In one tank I siliconed it to the tank (new setup). That one has been in use with cichlids for over 7 years with no problems. I wanted to set one up in an established community tank, so siliconing it was out of the question. Instead I siliconed (glued) in four super strong rare earth magnet discs (available on Amazon) into recessed pockets I carved out of the back side of each piece (I used 2 panels). After fully cured, I pushed them down into the tank (they really want to float!) and under the tank rim "lip" to hold them steady. I then put four more magnets up against the glued in ones on the outside of the glass back of the tank, using the magnetic attraction between the pairs to "pull" and secure the background up against the glass wall. It's working well, and these look great with a little algae and some plant growth on them!

It's pretty good for aquariums!

Very nice and easy to cut foam I ordered the larger one for my temporary turtle tank "55 gallons" as a background and I gotta say it came out very nice. The foam is about around an inch on avarage and it hides cuts and scars very well. I didnt find any problems with this item or the following project. This wasent ment to be under water, because foam floats obviously so what I did was, cleared the tank of everything. Rocks, decoration, and what not. I then cleaned the back panel with alcohol and a rag to clean the surface. Then I cut the foam using the face of the tank to help guide me to fit it in perfectly. Then after I cut the foam and cleaned of all the little heads. I put aquarium silicone on the back '' be genourus with it''. Then let it dry over night with the foam bearing weight of some sort rocks, logs, toolboxes. Then test it by setting it where ever you put it and fill it with water. Don't put everything back in then test. If it holds fine then build back your tank if it doesn't scrape of ththe silicone and repeat previous steps. All in all its wonderful to have and it looks like a million bucks, I hope my review was helpful and thank you for reading.

A little thicker then I would like

I loved the look I bought 2 my tank is 12 by 12 by 24 so had to buy 2 they were a bit tight I shave them a bit and fit fine still wish they carried 1 piece to fit

what a huge let down

i mean its the right size and technically 3d but it looks rather bad. the styrofoam beads are not compressed so it's a really bad background with large gaps meaning it'll be hard to clean and grow a lot of bacteria. I used to like exoterra but the quality has clearly gone down since I last got one of their products edit: it looks like trash compared to the picture. i will be sending it back and asking for a refund. My camera makes the colours look alot better than they really are

Good product

This is ok for a background. I must admit I’m not raving about it. It does the job for my tank. It doesn’t really go with the rocks I got but it looks better than nothing and didn’t cost too much money. I’m not a great fan of the finish of it, doesn’t look that great but you get what you pay for. Ultimately it’s a relatively cheap solution to wanting a 3D background and to be fair to this product I have seen other foam back ground panels that were awful and came broken. These were well packaged and came in excellent condition.

Packaging Issue

I was very pleased with product description and value for money... BUT... as you can see in pics the address label was stuck on over hole in front, and stuck to the product. this took some of the front of product of! I would like a refund, as I'm unable to use the product.

Nothing like the pictures but easy to resize

Had to cut it down to size because I couldn't see a 60x30 but it was very easy and took literally two minutes. My issue is that in the picture it looks great but in reality it's nothing like the pictures (kind of like a McDonald's burger). Most exo terra products are good so I was very disappointed with this.

Pretty cool

I rate this, because it looks pretty great once in the tank, very realistic, and is actually the size it says, which is obviously very good, but because of this, it was difficult to get it into the tank, and a bit actually snapped off while trying. Also, when you think about what it actually is, just painted Styrofoam, it makes you wonder why people buy it for what it's priced at, especially as this stuff comes free in boxes, but I bought it at the end of the day, and I think I'd buy it again, because of how good it looks
