Like the product but delivered with a broken handle and an open zipper by Amazon. It's annoying but not worth returning to Amazon. My complaint is more with Amazon than the manufacturer.

Durable and functional
I've owned this mat (these mats?) for about 4 years. I'd say I've put it through mild-to-moderate use over that time, for cutting fabric and paper, and it's still great. I haven't had any problems with the non-self-healing nature. The other comments about your cuts skipping a little over the joins are accurate, though the effect can be reduced by making sure they're clicked together as smoothly as possible, and being conscious of where the joins are so you can adjust your pressure if needed. I love that I can break it down into a little 12x12 package for storage when I'm not using it. The one disadvantage versus a large continuous mat is the inch numbering. I find myself having to do more math when measuring, because the marks stop at 11", then you have to remember that the blank puzzle-edged join to the next mat's first mark makes 12", then mentally add it up past there. It helps to have a nice long ruler for faster measuring.

This was just what I needed!
I was looking for a cutting mat to use while making fleece blankets. They were a yard and a half long and I would have to trim the edges to make them straight. I would use my rotary cutter and trim about a third of one edge and have to move the mat underneath and do the next third and repeat this process around the entire blanket. I kept looking for a bigger mat to put underneath and when I saw this, I knew it would be just what I needed. I can make it long enough to do the whole side with one cut. The only minor complaint I have is the cutter kind of "bumps" when it goes over the places where the mats join together. It is very easy to put together and take apart and comes in a plastic case with a handle for storage. It isn't one of those "self-healing" kind of mats, if that is what you need. I am very happy with the versatility of the product and the way it can be stored in a small space.

This is hands down the dumbest mat I have ever seen for crafting. You cant cut on it with an exato blade because it hits the sections where the puzzle pieces go together, which messes up a straight cut, which defeats the purpose of a cutting mat. I dont understand who would want to ever use this item for crafting. Again, the purpose of a cutting mat is a surface to "cut on"

It's GREAT!
I really like how the pieces can fit together to make it as large or small as needed. Using a rotary cutter I could not feel the "bump" where the pieces fit together at the "seams." Because you start over with "1" after every 12 inches, a metal yardstick is highly recommended. Being in a condo with limited space it's really nice to be able to take apart the puzzle pieces for storage. Another advantage is being able to take apart the "puzzle" and carry the pieces to someplace like a library where they have tables larger than the one in my dining room for my really big projects. After trying out the first set, I just bought another so I can cut larger fabric pieces without shifting the material.

Puzzle mat beware
You have to be carefull not to cut where the puzzle mat connects, This is not a major concern once you understand where to cut.

These are great for when I need to take a cutting mat to class. I can take all or any portion. They're also very handy when I open up my cutting table; I just add a row (or 2) alongside my 24 x 36 mat.

Puzzle mat set
If you travel with your quilt supplies, the puzzle mat is a great one to have. The pieces come in their own carrying case, and take up a space not much more than a foot square. Much easier to carry in your suitcase or in the back seat of your car if you're doing interstate travel! I haven't found ANY disadvantages.
