A must have
Great fish release tool. Sent a red snapper down and took him to the right depth and release it.

Should help preserve scarce species
This was a gift but it is sturdily built. I've been an avid fisherman my whole life and expect this will work well. I heard about it on Darcizzle Offshore and have watched several demonstrations. I wish I had this when I was younger and able to fish more. In the 1990s I caught a huge Tiger rockfish that was full of eggs. It had decompressed and could not return to the deep. I tried puncturing its swim bladder, but it still could not get down. The reason I wanted to let it go was due to their relative scarcity. They used to be more common until the Canadian Navy held a depth charge exercise where they were spawning and killed 4.5-million of them. It's taken over 30 years to make a comeback...Many types of deep-water rockfish are scarce nowadays and must be released unharmed. This is perfect for that.

The best descender
Tried 3 descenders, and this is the standout best. On the descender reel, I marked 100' and 150' depths on the line with different color permanent markers. If I'm fishing mostly 200' or so, I set the Sea Qualizer to open @ 100'. Fishing 300', set it @ 150'; know when fish and device reach that depth from marker on line. (I mostly use a 2# weight with it; need extra heft with bocaccio.) No jerking or sudden stops to free fish from descender, the device just opens on its own. Works every time. No more "floaters". Great product! Easy to put 2 fish on Sea Qualizer; they stay on nicely. F&W boarded us while we were rock fishing, complimented us on using the Sea Qualizer.

This thing really works!
Got real tired of the fish falling off the hook type recompression tool. Too time consuming to get the net, get the fish and re-try. This one is simple...close the jaws on the fish lips, use the snap to clip to your line and lower the fish away. Eventually you'll figure out how much line equals what depth you've set it for. Pull up your line and wham...fish is gone. No floaters to be seen. Highly recommended.

Works as Advertised
Been using this device for over one year and no issues at all. Does what it’s supposed to do. Seems very well made so I don’t for see buying another unless this one gets lost.

Quickly and Easily Release Rockfish
If you are going to release fish with a swim bladder, you should own one of these. It is way easier to use than others I have tried. I took off the lobster clip, and attached it to a small halibut spreader bar. Put a 3# weight on the other end of the spreader and it sits under the gunnel. We have a short stiff rod with a large snap ready to attach and lower the fish. Have only had it out a few times but it seems to be durable. We have been looking for a quick and easy way to release protected rockfish and this is the solution. If every boat had one of these it would definitely help survival rates and help keep our deeper water fisheries open.

Most effective device for bottom fishing.
We just pinch the fish lip on the device, send it down on the downrigger and it releases...so easy AND it works because it's so quick, the fish gets back in its environment quick...no more fish popping back up!!

Right tool for the job
Using a descender will keep you from killing fish that need to be returned to proper depth. A must have when ocean fishing. This will help you to fish responsibly
