Don't waste your time on cheap knock offs....

I bought these and a cheaper knockoff set from Amazon. There really is no comparison and I should have known better. Buy these and you'll be happy with the quality.

Convenient and effective

This is the most convenient, effective downrigger release that I've found for salmon fishing. You do have to be careful, though, not to let it hit the downrigger pulley on the way up, or it could pop off and you'll lose it to the big green toolbox. These are easy to clip onto the cable at any location - I like to run one about 5 or 10 feet above the cannonball, so that if the cannonball hit the bottom, the fishing line and terminal tackle is above that and is less likely to snag up.

Purchase only Scotty products

The only release I buy! 30in allows you to grab the release while still on the wire. The clamp securely holds onto the down rigger wire. The release grips even braid tightly, 30# braid has not slipped through the release until a fish is on. With Scotty products you know you are getting your money's worth!

Longer line length is a plus

I like the longer line on this model, as I can leave the line clip end hanging in my boat while the other end is still attached to the downrigger wire. I use this item for salmon fishing.
