Half Dome tested, professional hiker approved!!
The media could not be loaded. First of all, you should know that I am a professional dog hiker. For the last 3 years I have taken groups of dogs off leash pack hiking in the mountains around Salt Lake City at least 3 times a week or more, all year long in every weather! During the winter months I wear Salomon waterproof full size hiking boots, but in the hot summer months I like something lighter and lower profile. I have tried all kinds of different hiking shoes of various brands over the years and have yet to find anything I like as well as these. Most of what I buy are trail runners because I like that they are light weight, but the problem with most of them is that they have EVA foam soles or just otherwise compromise on durability in the name of being light and breathable. My Hoka One One Speed Goat Mids didn't even last a single season. Most recently I tried the Altra Lone Peak 5's and while they had some nice points, I ended up sending them back in favor of these (check out my review of those for more details). I even wore a similar pair of Salomon shoes a couple seasons back (XA Wild) and they started to come apart by the end of the season, but these have been CHAMPS so far and I have really put them through the ringer! They show no sign of degrading at all and I am so happy I found them! I just got back from hiking Half Dome in Yosemite which is 16+ miles, 5400 ft of elevation gain and ALL KINDS of terrain from slippery waterfall misted stone steps to sand to packed dirt to slick granite rock face and these shoes handled it all! My feet still felt pretty great by the end and that's really saying something! Choosing the right sock/liners makes a big difference but I mostly credit the shoes. Not only are these better than the Lonpeaks in my opinion (they are slightly more rugged and protective than the Lonepeaks while being almost the same in weight) they cost less than half the price. I found that my foot and ankle fatigue was WAY less in these than in the Lonepeaks or any other shoe I have tried. I ADORE the bolo lacing system as it laces the shoes evenly all the way up and down and are super easy to adjust. I never have to stop to tie them and don't get cactus and trail debris stuck in the laces. These required ZERO break in period for me. I hiked mount Olympus in them the day I took them out of the box and had not a single hot spot or discomfort. These are now my number 1 favorite every day AND big hike hiking shoes for dry, warm weather. Now to see if they last me longer than a single season. I will update if/when they start to come apart, but no sign so far and I'm 3 months in. If they continue to perform like they have, I will be wearing them when I hike the Inca trail to the summit of Machu Picchu next year. One other thing, I am a true size 8 in womens shoes and I ordered these in 8.5. They are perfect. While the 8 fits, its ALWAYS a good idea to buy hiking shoes/boots a half size up at least, especially when in doubt, so as to leave room for layering socks. I sincerely hope this review has been helpful to someone else! And yes, I paid full price for these. Feel free to ask any questions! Photo side by side with my older Salomon XA Wilds.

Love these shoes but...
Not thrilled the first time I wore them the tag broke. Not a deal breaker for me but my 10 year old pair nothing ever ripped.

I Went with a Full Size Down
I ordered these in my usual running shoe size 7.5, but had to order a full size down since they were too big (not normal for me!) What could explain this is from the picture I included - I received the women’s XA PRO 3D v8 in Wide. You have to read carefully through this listing. Based on the other reviews, I can see why people were mislead. I had to check twice, currently the description on the listing is for the Men’s GTX version. This means the men’s Gore-Tex, more waterproof version. I can say, I wasn’t even sure if I was still going to receive the wide version when I received the 2nd pair. I ordered these in 3 different sizes. It’s a little bit more difficult to check since the toe box is very protected and stiff. It’s harder to tell where your toes are to measure the space they have to touch the top. I will be using these for adventure racing and will update this review once I have accumulated more usage through the winter.

Best Solomons Ever for My Adventure!
I have to laugh because the colour of the issues in sunlight almost looks neon but I figure that's OK. The shoe fits perfectly Which is not always the case since I have A foot that is wide around the toes and has a narrow heel. I am heading to TX next Sunday to work 12 hour days x 7 day weeks on my feet, not behind a desk, helping with placement & being compassionate toward children separated from their parents. Whether I can muster the stamina to help x 4 months remains to be seen, BUT I promised Creator I will tend to this vulnerable flock for 30 days straight, then assess, regroup and see if I can help another 60-90 days. Working on dharma! So I declare these shoes to be magical- and I will be gifted the wisdom of SOLOMON and perseverance to help fix whatever needs fixing. ????

What's that smell, snug on the toes.
These shoes are solid. They don't breath well and so they spend the day and night outside until I put them on again. Other shoes not a problem. I've washed them, changed the type of socks and placed them outside but the stinky feet are just a given with these shoes. I won't buy them again though I feel that they will last a long time for the trail. I've got several hundred miles out of them and will continue to put them outside after wear. Cheers. Snug on the toes, but fits the heel.

Runs larger than store brands
So, my shoes showed up today. I am a 9.5 and always get a 10 for anything hiking. This is my first pair of Solomons and I trusted the "true to size" statement. Nope, in my opinion they run big, nit quite sure if it's by an entire size or just half yet, but it feels like a whole size as there was a ton of extra room for my toes. The shoe is amazing though and I'm really looking forward to using the correct size when I get it. Will update.

Great shoe
Great shoe. Have always had Salomon trail runners. The only complaint about these is that the tongue tends to slip to the outer side of the foot and then there is pressure on the top of the foot directly from the laces. Could just me my foot though.

True to size, long lasting materials
I have been wearing Salomon shoes for at least 10-12 years now, excellent shoes. My first pair were over 10 years old and I just had to throw them out this year after holes developed, but the abuse I put them through it’s any wonder any shoe would last that long.

Not waterproof, longer type
I think the size is ok, a little bit bigger then the others (but it depends where were they made, i have 3 salamon shoes in 3 different size). Very light. NOT WATERPROOF! really comfy, but this for me was a little bit big, so at my toes the matterial was wrinkled. I am sure it is good in the right size for running and walking too, in dry weather. I sent it back as i wanted waterproof and not exactly this type of style shoe.
