Great replacement for a worn out hub.

A decent freewheel
Because this is a freewheel and a 6 speed, there are few choices for those of us who use this gear set up. The options are to change the rear spacing of the chain stays on the bike, buy a more expensive freewheel made in Taiwan, which I have had mixed results with, buy a used freewheel from ebay, or use one of the lower cost freewheels and replace them fairly often. Surprisingly, the last is the best option for me. I have had very good luck with this Shimano freewheel with only one having issues out of 6. Because I ride in the snowy Winters of Maine, as well as Summers, the freewheels need to be changed after the winter rides. Road sand and salt take their tole on the bearings, even though I attempt to keep the bike and all its gear related parts clean. I am quite satisfied with this freewheel since the technology of using freewheels is so out of date. I don't want to change the rear spacing of my bike to adapt to new technology and this is more than fine for me. The freewheels of the 70s and 80s were a wonder compared to now (Bring back Suntour and Shimano of the 70s), but I think I am lucky to find a new freewheel that serves me this well.

Great 1975 Gitane Upgrade
After reading tons of online commentary about English threads/French Threads--this and that--I just threw caution to the wind and ordered this as a replacement for the freewheel that came with my 1975 Gitane after it just stopped turning, cold. Great move. Even though it replaced a five-speed freewheel there was plenty of room inside the 126mm fork. The Park 12-spline freewheel remover easily took off the old cassette (easiest using a bench vise--then you can torque on the whole wheel/tire) and the Shimano freewheel (MF-TZ20) screwed right on. Use Park tube grease so the ball bearings don't keep falling out (after cleaning out the bracket). I first used green Valvoline multipurpose and that was a mistake. Also: don't tighten down on the hub cones at each end of the axle rod--finger tight snug only (try it and you will see why not). Then use a thin 15mm wrench to keep the cone end opposite the freewheel side from tightening further when you set/tighten the locknut (it will be obvious when you do it.)

Good quality 6-speed freewheel
I buy these 6-speed freewheels as replacements for older bikes. The quality is good and they are quite durable. Shimano has now replaced the MF-TZ20 with the MF-TZ500-6 model, so it pays to shop around. The MF-TZ500-6-CP model includes an integrated spoke protector.

Might as well have all new.
I'm replacing the back wheel on an old mountains bike that has been sitting for years The price of this freewheel is only a few $$ more than a removal tool and I couldn't remember if this was the bike that had slipping problems so why not. Freewheel went on easily but I notice side to side motion spinning the wheel. Not enough for concern. Anyway I bought the removal tool.but there's no way the old freewheel is coming off after 20 some years.

NO MORE SKIPPING BY NEW CHAIN
The perfect replacement on my legacy Schwinn 18-speed road bike. I had recently replaced the chain, and subsequently noticed skipping under moderate load on the smallest two sprockets of my old freewheel. I replaced the old freewheel (which required a special tool, held upward in a big bench vice, and a nifty counterclockwise jolt to the wheel, for removal of freewheel from the hub) with this product and the results were perfect. No more skipping. Note that the brand names were different, between old and new, but the tooth-counts were the same. NO MORE CHAIN SKIPPING. The defects in the teeth of the old freewheel were invisible to the naked eye; they looked fine to me. But others published on this point, leading me to this remedy.

WHen you need a narrower freewheel.....
They sent me the Shimano TZ500-6 instead of the TF-220-6, which was a free upgrade, It's 31.9 mm wide, about 2mm shorter than a TZ-500-7 7 speed. I needed this for an ebike conversion. The 7 speed was scraping the edge of my frame. Dropping 2 mm allowed the 6 speed to clear it with ease. Didn't have any room for a spacing washers. (WIth a motor, 6 peeds is just a good as 7 speeds.)

Great Freewheel and Inexpensive!!
I bought this freewheel to replace an original one on a 35-year old mountain bike which had froze up. The original was a 5 speed, so it was a great time to upgrade it to a 6 speed. This freewheel is super quiet. I installed a new chain at the same time, so the bike shifts as smooth as a new one. The gear ratios of this freewheel are excellent. I can do 20 miles on a bike almost four decades old!!!

Rock Solid !
Local bike shops in Niagara have to make their money in 2 or 3 months , so some shop owners try a certain money-massage toward's a $125 "so-so sad ancient technology" replacement , using guilt & dreams as a crowbar. Duh ? Amazon.ca is offering this rock-solid replacement for a fraction . Seriously , grab them while you can . Keep your Ride rolling economically . (try to ignore the bike-hype bull-crap from bike shops). Amazon has everything you need at, at least half the price . Delivered to your door !!!!!!! Seriously , what more could we want ?

Better than expected
My "vintage" bike had a seized freewheel for which the removal tool was impossible to find. Not wanting to replace the entire wheel for a cassette, and amazed that freewheels are now so hard to source, I wanted to buy what seemed like a higher quality freewheel than this one. But this seemed to be the only realistically available 6 speed option. About 1500km later and I love this freewheel. It's way smoother than my original which at the time was pretty high end, and has a good range of gears; i.e., hill climber to flat. I did buy a new Shimano chain with it since both old freewheel/chain had worn together, but the combo of both new works very well. Don't know if it will last 15,000km +, but at this point I'm very happy with it, as it's performing better than the price point suggested.

High price for low quality
When I used Nippon Shimano freewheel, I rolled about 6000 km before I change the freewheel. With this Chinese thing I can use it only for 1500 km. Poor quality...

Replaced my 7-speed Shimano freewheel with this.
You can't go wrong with Shimano products. Works perfectly and the price is amazing. I used a Park Tool FR 1.3 tool to install it.

Needed A Few More Teeth
Item was exactly as described. This freewheel was a quick and easy replacement that provided a few extra teeth to ease the effort when climbing. Well packaged with a quick delivery. Zero complaints.
