nice cushion but I wish it were higher

Very nice cushion. Comfortable on my butt for meditation and sitting on the ground in social situations. However, I wish it were higher. I'm only 5 foot tall, but I prefer a higher cushion since my legs fall asleep during a 20-min meditation. My partner has the round meditation cushion with velvet case and embroidered mandala that is also available on Amazon, and I much prefer that cushion because it's higher than this crescent one. I should have bought that one. I bought a HUGE bag of hulls (because a small bag isn't available; ANNOYING) and was able to add a little to the remaining free space in this crescent cushion, but it's still not as high as I'd like. And I don't want to return a used cushion to Amazon because I know they re-send used items to new customers and that's just weird. I will deal.

Buckwheat is HARD. You need to learn how to sit on this right.

This cushion is much firmer than I expected, and not at all as comfortable as the fancier DharmaCrafts cushions my temple has. After a while, I did get the posture and positioning right and can get comfy for a good hour before my entire groin and butt fall asleep. Can be placed sideways for a supported seiza position. Half lotus is my preferred position on this cushion. Full lotus hurts my ankles after a while due to lower elevation.

Good cushion

I sit on the ground a lot (crisscross) but as I am getting older, sitting on the ground has been hard on my knees. Since a full-blown crisscross meditation chair is out of my price range I decided to add this cushion to my sitting. It's phenomenal. It's well made and comfortable to sit on. It's buckwheat filled so it isn't squishy. The cover is removable.

It feels great for meditation. I would recommend it to any new comer to meditation that is starting . Get a zafuton if you have the budget

Comfy Bum!

After much reading and research I landed on this little gem for my sore tushy. I’m very pleased with its thickness, size, portability, color (mulberry is a very nice purple) and overall quality! My hips no longer ache and my feet no longer fall asleep while I meditate. Very pleased to be able to focus again! TY!

nice versatile cushion

The cushion is well made, filled a little firm however easily enough to remove as much of the fillings as you want (they are now sitting in a zip bag for later). I use this cushion for yoga poses as well as just sit on the floor to read books with the kids. Its still a little firm but I might remove more filling. It does the job however of holding my weight up a bit for a straighter spine; no slouch, no pain!

Great office chair cushion, 100% Buckwheat filler, 100% cotton

I rarely write positive reviews but some of the reviews here were so misleading that I almost considered making my own buckwheat pillow which took hours from my life in research. I was looking for an office chair cushion for better WFH ergonomics and since I'm trying to minimize plastic in my life, I wanted a buckwheat cushion, not a foam/polyester one. My sleeping pillow is buckwheat and after doing a brief sitting test, I found it comfortable enough to continue on with my plan. I came across this and others like it on amazon, and was leaning heavily towards this one because: 1) Cheaper than the rest 2) 100% Cotton cover and 100% buckwheat hulls filling But I saw on the reviews that it had a Prop 65 warning because the hulls were actually acrylic??? Since I saw no pictures substantiating this claim, and making my own pillow might be an order of magnitude more on cost and time, I decided to take the plunge and if the description was as wrong as the reviewer said, return it. So I was glad that the product description is right. It is 100% buckwheat hull fillers and 100% cotton. The only plastic is in the zipper enclosure. TBD as it is as flimsy as the other reviewers have said. I'm pretty happy with my WFH setup and I find the cushion helps me maintain a better posture. There was a bit of a smell, but it reminded me of when I open a bedsheet package. After a day it was gone. As to the prop 65 warning... I live in California... those stickers are everywhere and they are not really helpful as to inform you of the reason why and to quantify the risk. Somethings have the sticker and are not really dangerous if used as intended and other things that are dangerous are yet to be labeled. Some companies put the sticker without testing just to not get into trouble. Could it be because the buckwheat hulls? Psyllium husks (even some organic ones) have the prop 65 warning because the hulls bioaccumulate contaminant in the soil, so it could be something similar.

Ditch the yoga hype and sell more. This is a great footrest!

I actually purchased this to use as a foot rest for the primary use, and then to have the benefit of also using it as a floor cushion for the times I need to sit on the floor. I was looking for a REALLY firm footrest, but not one that's hard plastic. I've used plastic and steel ones before, which have no give and are VERY hard on my feet, and the foam ones which are firm at first, but always seemed to soften too much. Both plastic ones and foam ones are also bad for the environment. I have a buckwheat pillow for sleeping, which is great because it's super firm, but also has give in it. I was trying to find a buckwheat footrest and by chance ended up looking at all these hyped up yoga/ pilates/ meditation labelled items. When I saw these "zafu yoga" pillows I figured the size would be just right for a footrest for under my office desk. This slightly crescent shape is perfect, and the size and height are just right for my feet. Overall dimensions are pretty inline with other dedicated "foot" supports. There's just the right amount of give so I dont get pain in my feet, but it's nice and firm to support the weight of my legs without going squidgy. For the price, this is pretty on par with a lot of foam footrests, and I think this one is far more durable. It's also breathable and washable cotton canvas fabric and buckwheat hulls are a natural material, so I think this is far better for the environment than whatever oil-industry by-products foam is made from. If the hulls ever get too crushed or musty, I can buy a sack of replacement hulls (which I can also source locally from farmers within my province) and the old ones can go into my compost heap. I don't know what zafu is, and frankly I don't care enough to google it. I don't think pillows make you meditate better (more? at all?) So I kind of wish companies like this would broaden their horizons. If you didn't target ONLY twenty-to-thirty-something upper middle class, probably stay-at-home women, you could probably sell more of your products. AND if you stopped with the ridiculous zen themes and marketing hype, people like my thirty-something techy partner would have looked at something like this as a comfortable, more durable, and environmentally-friendly footrest instead of the more expensive memory-foam, polyester microfibre-covered foam footrests he bought. Instead it won't even show in his search parametres, because he doesn't own any lululemon outfits. My griping about this ridiculous marketing now over, I actually really recommend this pillow. It works great as a floor pillow as well, if you actually wanted to use it for it's intended purpose. It's also great to kneel on.

Best cushion for my needs

This is a game changer for me. Due to the shape it allows me to sit comfortably using the whole cushion for support, instead of just the edge, like traditional round cushions. The beads can be taken out to create the density of your choice. (Although I wouldn't recommend doing it without a broom near by, it's messy). The outside black cover can be washed, as the beans are in an interior case. I've even just filled the black cover with other stuffing to make a softer cushion, as the beans can get a little hard on the backside. I highly recommend for long sits.

Fabulous cushion! My back was automatically aligned as soon as I sat on it

This is a small, fabulous cushion for meditation. It is much firmer than my previous cushions. I was very surprised to observe how well my back got straight as I sat in it. Excellent value for the money!
