High Quality Generator Plugs
I just received my two Reliance plugs that I ordered and they came in a very timely manor. In fact arrived one day prior to the estimated date that Amazon gave me. This is a twist lock Plug and after plugging into my generator and given a slight clockwise twist locks into the receptical very well. The wedges on the two halves of the cord grip are to ensure the two halves of the cord grip are secured to the plug itself. At first glance it does not appear as though a 4 - conductor 10 awg SO cord will be able to be tightened down using the existing screws that came with the cord grip. But I have attached my SO cord very easily. CCI Deoprene 105 10 AWG (5.27 mm squared) This is a water resistant cord good for -50C to 105C. If you are careful when tightening the two screws a little on one then the other and alternate this way, the cord grip connector has tightened down to just 1/16 inch gap between the two halves of the cord grip and the body of the plug. Very nice grip and it would be impossible to pull this cord out of the plug with this grip. The two plugs that I received are name brand Reliance which is U/L approved and is stamped as such. We used this companies electrical connectors at several of the companies that I worked for and they are as good as connector you will get from any manufacturer. I had to make this comment because it was noted in a comment that this plug cord grip would not secure around a 4 - conductor 10 awg SO cord and that simply is not true. I can only assume some of the negative posts on this plug were from people that did not receive the plug from Reliance but must have received a different brand, because these plugs held up to all my expectations. This plug is a good a quality as any plugs that I have purchased from any local retailers and at less than 2/3 the costs. The L14-30P are for generators up to 7500 watts and are capable of handling 30 amperes. The L14-20P is used for smaller 5000 watt generators. They use these plugs because they are only capable of handling 20 amperes of current. They look very similar to each other. A major difference between the two plugs is the L14-30P ground lug has a bend in it turning in towards the center of the plug where the L14-20 has the ground lug bend going towards the outer edge of the plug. The L on the two plugs designate a locking plug. The 14 on the two plugs designate a 125/250 volt with 4 connections L1,L2,N,G. Either a P or R on the end of the Nomenclature designates Plug or Receptacle respectively. And the 20 and 30 indicate the current carrying capacity of the plug. Making wire connections are standard but for the novice use the Green (GRD) wire on the terminal that has the bend in it. The Neutral (White) wire goes on the terminal just across from the Ground terminal. The Red and Black Wires can be interchanged on either of the two remaining terminals X & Y (L1 & L2) those are your hot legs of your 240 volt circuit you will note these two terminal are slightly larger than the Neutral terminal. I recommend this plug and am very satisfied with its quality.

Very nice.
Those two words in the title describe the look feel of this product once installed on your cable end. The plug was installed on a twenty-five foot, SOOW grade of 10/4 cable to be used as a jumper between the emergency generator and the house. On the other end of the cable I attached a 50A plug end to plug into the 240v RV outlet which I had professionally installed by an electrician on the side of the house next to the electric service panel. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000PGVZ30 This cable is "safely" rated at 6000w and can easily handle any momentary power surges put to the cable when refrigerator/freezer/A/C unit, or all three decide to spin up using the 8500w max surge capacity of the generator this plug will be attached to. An assembly tip: On both the inside and outside of the strain relief collar, add a dab of latex/silicon caulk to seal the fitting against water. It won't make the plug end waterproof, but it will make it more water resistant and give the installed plug a finished look. FYI: If wondering about amperage and the capacity of different cables, the word you want to learn about is "ampacity", or the load carrying capability of the cable in question. The below is just to get you started as to learning about what's what with electricity and questions surrounding cable carrying capacity. Ampacity - (from a well known info site) Ampacity is defined as the maximum amount of electrical current which a cable can carry before sustaining immediate or progressive deterioration. Also described as current rating or current-carrying capacity, ampacity is the RMS electric current which a device can continuously carry while remaining within its temperature rating. 10/4 = 25 amp. 08/4 = 35 amp. 06/4 = 45 amp. This power cord plug, to me, represents good price, good quality and if you're a "Prime" member, you won't have to waste time and gas going to the store hoping to find this item as two-day delivery is included. What's not to like? :)

Beware some third-party sellers
Beware who you buy these plugs from. Some third-party sellers are shipping lesser quality plugs of a different brand instead of ones packaged in a box with a Reliance Controls logo on it. I have ordered a few of these from Amazon in the past. It seems like Reliance is sourcing plugs from 2 different manufacturers with slightly different designs, but they all appeared to be of good quality and came in a white box with a Reliance Controls label. I saw some other sellers were also selling them, so I purchased one. I ended up receiving some random brand plug, which came loose in a padded envelope. It seemed to have a slightly thinner plastic housing and just felt cheaper. It probably would still do the job fine, but it's definitely not the same as the other ones I've purchased previously.

Way more than I expected
This plug has so many features, where to begin? The contacts are in plastic housings so there is no wrapping wires around screws, just jam them in the channel and tighten. Inside the housing is a plastic deal with four plastic arms that tighten down and hold the cord securely when you tighten the screws on the face of the plug. This piece also has grooves and notches on it so it will align perfectly with the top and bottom pieces. The bottom piece, where the hole for the cable is, had a soft rubber grommet that will give moisture protection for different sizes of cords. Probably the best fitting cord for this is stranded 12/3 plus ground. A really nice piece.

Quality, heavy duty plug
A nice, good quality, heavy duty plug. But I would not recommend it for outside, wet weather use.

Good quality
Just what I needed for a cord to extend the power from my generator. I placed my generator in a shed sixty feet from my house, ran a #10 three line romex cable from the generator then on the other end of the cable split the 220 volt line into two 110 volt lines to run my refrigerator and freezer during electrical outages we have here at least once a year.
