Good product, great price
We looked at many carriers and saw similar complaints so we opted for a carrier that was inexpensive expecting it would be a one time use product. It is roomy and installed easily. We had light rain overnight and nothing got wet. Based on reviews we had decided to pack everything that couldn't get wet in plastic bags. Going through the instructions is specifically says it isn't water proof. We didn't have heavy rain or did we drive while it was raining so can't comment to this. We took a 3000 mile round trip and were very happy with this carrier. We did check the straps each time we stopped and tightened them however probably wasn't necessary. There was some road noise but we decided that was good as we knew it was still up there, it wasn't so much that we could hear our music or have a conversation. We didn't have any problems with it ripping or the zipper breaking. We did buy the a mat. We haven't noticed any where on the roof of our van. There is some wear on the luggage rack where the straps rubbed. Our only dislike of the product is it only opens on two sides making it a bit more challenging to pack. Overall, we are very happy with this carrier and would recommend it. It fulfilled our needs and we will be using it again for another trip.

Very good for the price
This is great for the price. We had to move across the country and don't have a roof rack, but we combined this with a mat underneath and used husky ratchet tie-down straps and it got us here with two full suitcases, a few pillows, and our laundry bag inside. We made sure to distribute the weight as evenly as possible. This is on top of a little prius, and it worked. I'm dinging it one star for one reason: 1. By the time we got here, about 2,000+ miles away, it had started to get tiny rips in some places. I consider this very reasonable wear and tear for the trip we took and the amount of abuse it took through intense sun, wind, and rain, traveling at highway speeds most of the way. If we had to make a move like that again, we'd happily buy the same product, and maybe try and cover the bag with a tarp or something to protect it a little bit more. Please keep in mind, we did use a mat underneath and we did use some heavy duty tie-downs to make sure we were secure given the intensity of the trip and the lack of roof rack (the manufacturer does NOT recommend using this without a roof rack).

Mounted on 4 door sedan without rails or gutter w/ some extra steps - 1200 miles all good
After use storage and cost were a major factors for making this purchase. This cargo carrier opens from the top, is water proof, and has zippers (two sides) with flaps that work well. It is basically a duffel bag and hard to get suit cases inside. So I cut 2 inch thick Styrofoam boards ~ 18 inches tall X side length 36 inches to frame the inside of carrier (no glue). This gave the unit form and stacking three large suite cases side by side became much easier. I purchased ratchet straps 1" wide and connected these to the hand grips inside the car. The driver side did not have a handle so I pulled the strap inside the driver side door window and connected it to the LR handle from inside. Also purchased the roof anti skid cover and taped that to the hood to prevent flapping noise from wind. We drove all day with a massive amount of rain and everything inside stayed dry. I have owned hard shell carriers which are much more user friendly for loading and unloading luggage, however they are more expensive and take up too much storage in the garage. I am happy with my purchase.

Exceeded expectations!
To be honest, considering the very reasonable price for this, we had very low expectations. Turns out this product far exceeded even our wildest expectations. We had to make the drive home from Boston, MA with two more passengers than we arrived with. To make room for them, we emptied our suitcases of all of our clothing, dumped the clothes in a bunch of black trash bags, put them in this rooftop cargo carrier and hoped for the best. There was rain in the forecast. But what we didn’t know was that we would be driving home in torrential downpours for the ENTIRE 14 hour journey. (The kind of downpours where you drive with your hazards on and reduce your speed considerably because you can’t see more than 10 feet in front of your car.) Then there were hours-long portions of our trip spent fighting intense winds as the storm progressed. This thing didn’t budge. When we got home and unloaded, we were astounded to find that not even the slightest bit of rain penetrated the carrier. Everything inside was completely dry. Amazing. Best $25 we have ever spent. We also purchased the non-slip mat and some extra tie down straps to reinforce everything. Highly highly recommend!!!! Saved our trip home!

this was the best money i ever spent.
so me and my family were moving from new york to florida and to save money for the moving truck we tried to fit as much as we could in my jeep patriot. well that didn't end well when we ran outta room and still had so much stuff left!.. so i found this and figured..alright ill give it a shot.. well im glad i did. it fit SO much stuff in it and it fit beautifully on my roof with just my roof racks no cross bars. i fit 2 suitcases. a small box 16'16 a bin that stands 18'18 my daughters entire crib set in the packaging, a huge bag of diapers, my kids video game systems (3). and a few other things. with some room to spare. i strapped it down and i prayed for the best. and man oh man this thing did not disappoint. after a 2 day drive doing highway speeds and going through emended heat and torrential down pours as soon as we entered florida to my surprise when i opened it up everything was dry and just as it was 1200 miles prior. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT. BEST 30 BUCKS I EVER SPENT.

Drastic Hit on MPG
It’s good at what it does keeping cargo safe. But I got a hit of ~6mpg I was expecting only 1-2mpg. Also 2 of the Velcro on the flap came out of the fabric in just one use. I decided to go with a hitch basket instead, as for long trips it would cost you a lot to carry this bag.

Straps are easy to use
When I opened the package I was immediately struck with the same odor as those cheap inflatable water toys. Didn’t have a lot of choice so I loaded it. It is quite easy to strap down and holds a LOT. I added a more robust strap to make sure. Traveled well. Can’t speak to “rainproof-ness” as it didn’t rain. Guess we’ll see how it stands up in the long run.

Waterproof
This was perfect, I packed it the night before leaving and that night we had a HUGE rainstorm and I thought for sure everything would be soaked as the product states it is water resistant not waterproof. Everything was DRY it was amazing. I drove through rain and upon arrival it was still dry. The only issue is that I had a stich pull out on one of the top loops when tightening the straps. Still held on and no issues driving but that is the only reason for a 4 star review.

Good product for the money.
Product did what I expected and holds much more than I expected. The material it’s made from seems like it may not last that long and it feels like it may become brittle fast and then crack. But for the price, even if it lasts a year or two, it’s worth it.
