I wish it came in 100% stainless. My ultra hardcore alkaline water will eat the cast iron up in a year or two.

Built like a tank and can empty water barrel like no other

If there's only one thing I can say about this sump pump, it's that it is extremely high quality and does an excellent job in emptying out my rainwater barrels. I've used other sump pumps in the past (1/4 HP and 1 HP) but even though this is 1/2 HP, this does a way better job than the 1 HP one. Although, I should note that this is the only one that's stainless steel. If you're stuck on deciding on a sump pump to choose from, I definitely think you should look beyond HP and look at GPH cause that's more honest. Pros: + extremely powerful for only being 1/2 HP (this thing drained out a 80 gallon barrel in like under 2 mins with a sump pump discharge hose) + high quality stainless steel + cheaper than home improvement store sump pumps of the same class and power + 3 year warranty Cons: - I actually wanted to use this for my rainwater barrels for gardening but it didn't even come with a 1-1/2" discharge hose so I had to run to the home improvement store to get a hose kit. But in order to use a garden hose, you're going to want to use a garden hose adapter (male 1.5" NPT x 3/4" GHT.) Remember that the outlet is 1-1/2" or 1.5" while garden hoses are 3/4".

This thing is heavy and rock solid. Meant for pumping fairly clean water, it cannot pump sand or corrosives. It can be submersed. You can take apart for cleaning, the impeller is plastic. Max total head is 25 ft. 1-1/2" female pipe thread discharge. I am using this to pump water from one storage container to another (rain collection). The float is actually helpful, as it will stop when the barrel is almost empty.

Pros and Cons

Much lighter than previous generation pumps. More plastic and less cast iron to rust. But the handle will definitely rust and that seems like a miss. Could have been a plastic hook or handle. The float is really long and means that position of the pump in the sump with pvc pipe us actually tricky to make sure the float does not get blocked. Too early to tell how long it will last.
