Good quality puzzle

Typical Ravensburger quality with sturdy, well-cut pieces. Ravensburger put the "Creation of Adam" in the box for the "Sistine Chapel Ceiling." Still a 5,000 pieces, but not the one I ordered.

This one might give you fits! I'm about 40% done, and there are two distinct halfs to this puzzle. And since it's mirrored both horizontally and vertically, you can often find pieces that look right and fit right, but are not in the right spot, they go at the caddy corner placement. There are also a LOT of puzzle piece shapes that are identical edges, and similar colors, so you may think you have a piece or a series of pieces in the right place and then you realize that you are missing a set of pieces elsewhere, and you are SURE you've found all the same color pieces... But you had placed them in the wrong spot. But in time, all of these issues will be fixable. It just slows down progress. The 3000 piece puzzles had less similar shaped pieces. I almost never ran into that. But it's a finely crafted puzzle, and I'm looking forward to finishing it.

This is a hard puzzle, mostly because the condition of the original painting is so poor. In most paintings that are made into puzzles, you can expect that one section of the architectural elements will be all the same color unless there's shading or shadowing. Here that isn't true at all. Not only are each of the triangles and rectangles that divide the ceiling into separate friezes a separate color - ranging from ivory to grey to taupe to almost blue, while the incised decorations in each section alter unpredictably in both color and width - but those colors themselves vary hugely due to crazing, poor repair, restorations, waterstains, etc. Then, too, the colors of the puzzle pieces are not the same as the colors in the picture (to the point where the picture is actively a hindrance at times), and the picture is so much smaller than the puzzle that you can't rely on the picture to help with most of the details. In short, this one's quite frustrating, as well as big enough to take a long time to work anyway. Exactly what you want if you're fast at doing jigsaws! It would be best if the photo and the puzzle were corrected to be the same colors at least - it seems unfair of Ravensburger to make them this off from one another. It's one thing to choose not to look at the photo for help, it's another to not be able to tell what a piece is if you do look. A something that's gold in the photo may be olive green or brown or blue or even lavender, depending...and that's nothing compared to the variation in skin tones and backgrounds. You'll have to decide for yourself if it's worth it even to try locating pieces by using the photo.

Most fascinating puzzle I have ever worked on

This is a true "puzzler's" puzzle. It is based on a magnificent work of art and it gives you time to study the painting in detail while you analyze each section. You can study the history of the painting as you build the puzzle. Ravensburger presents us with a wonderful challenge by making several pieces exactly the same shape while only slight variation in the color is noticeable. Other reviewers commented that they often felt when building the puzzle that pieces might be missing and yet as they came to the end all the pieces were there. I was constantly amazed that I had the same feeling that pieces were missing and at one point even stopped working on the puzzle in disappointment. However, the actual puzzle was 100% complete. After I had completed the puzzle I noticed one piece that fit perfectly by shape, but was surely out of place by color detail. I spent another day looking for a similar piece with the correct colors. This added to the fun of building the puzzle and knowing that it was totally correct. Now that the puzzle is complete I will have it framed and hang it above my bed so that I will have a perspective on the painting similar to the artist's perspective. I hope Ravensburger will consider making a 9000 piece puzzle of the Sistine Chapel that includes the extra two panels of the original that are missing from either end of this one.

The puzzle I received only covered the Creation of Adam panel

Like another reviewer, the puzzle in the box did NOT match the photo on the box itself (or the provided poster-sized picture). This is maddening after spending the better part of the day sorting and laying out he border/edges. I have contacted Ravensburger to see if/how they intend to make this right. It's hard to believe that a puzzle of this size, number of pieces (5,000), and cost was produced incorrectly. UPDATE: I called Ravensburger directly and they were extremely helpful and apologetic. This is a problem that has persisted when buying from a non-Ravensburger store on Amazon. They are sending me a new replacement puzzle ASAP.

Hardest "non-tricked up" puzzle in the World!

If you've managed to finish Divided Town and are ready to tackle what may be the hardest non-tricked-up puzzle (ie pieces all the same size, all the same colors, etc). then this is it. 5000 pcs! What makes it amazing is that its really about 15 puzzles in 1, since each "vault" essentially is a stand alone puzzle. Took 3 months to finish, working on and off. Could certainly be done quicker. Highly, highly recommend, but be prepared to have your dining table out of commission for several weeks!

Very challenging

My husband loves puzzles and I buy him one every Christmas. I try to make them more and more challenging. He is almost a month in and is well on his way to completing this but considering he only has a few hours per week to work in this, it's quite a challenge and he's really enjoying it.

Puzzle looks truly excellent but I returned it unopened ... my fault completely as I should have looked at the finished size of a 5000 piece puzzle before buying it! amazon customer service amazing, no quibbles at all. I would definitely buy Ravensburger Puzzles again as they are really high quality.

Gave this puzzle to my wife and it has now taken over one entire room in our house, Really big. Really hard. Really good quality. Beautiful picture quality of the chapel roof. If my wife does finish it we will frame it and keep it on our wall. (Something I used to think was ridiculous.)

Still working through this puzzle. It’s pieces are of high quality and are not easily damaged. This puzzle is difficult and should not be attempted by the faint hearted or the easily distracted. Expect commitment or be disappointed. 5 stars from me. Without a doubt.
