Expensive
I'm not using it as a trainer. I bought a used one for cheap, and I use it for bike maintenance. I just hook my bike (or kids bikes) on top of this thing, and then I can fix the gears and brakes and test them very easily.

Allowing lazy and cold-adverse bikes to get used inside. Perfection..
My bike don't much like getting outside when it is cold/rainy/dreary. It keeps coming up with new excuses to not get some exercise. Lazy thing, it is. This trainer was the perfect solution. Now such excuses are of no value, since the bike and I do not have to get outside in bad weather to exercise. We can pedal away inside in comfort (and even watch a movie while doing it). This trainer was very easy to setup and is very sturdy when riding the bike on it. No problems or unsteadiness/wobble at all. A slight detractor from the "promise" is that the "variable resistance" with supposedly 7 levels don't seem to have much meaning. It seems to make little difference which "level" you set it at. Not a real problem, though, since you can adjust the resistance by simply setting the roller-resistance on the big setscrew in back, and then adjusting the actual pedaling resistance by gearing up or down on the bike. Just like in normal biking. Works just fine. Unrelated to the quality or design of the trainer, remember that if you have a bike-computer on your bike, it will typically be setup to operate on the front-wheel, which when used in a bike trainer setup is not rotating at all. So, I had to also get a new bike computer able to work on the rear wheel instead. From researching this extensively, remember that almost all the wireless bike computers only handle around 60 cm distance between the computer on the handle bar and the signal generator on the wheel, so they can get quite useless when the magnet/signal is moved to the real wheel. Too much distance for the signal to get through consistently. A WIRED bike-computer with a cable long enough to reach the rear wheel location is necessary. But that now works out great as well. Best setup I could imagine. My bike and I love it, and my bike has gotten a lot less lazy. :-)

Loud but does the job.
I had initially bought this to go with my 700c bike which it had advertised as being able to hook up to. Couldn't get it to hold the bike no matter how I tried. As a last ditch effort I tried a smaller bike that was sitting around, my old 24 inch bike I got when I was a teen. It worked beautifully. My only issue after that was the trainer was a bit loud while pedaling. I expect with a bit of fiddling I could fix the issue but for the moment it is for daytime only use because of the noise level.

Way better than expected
This thing is way higher quality than I expected. The welds and construction are very good. The resistance adjustment is actually precise and noticeable between each level on the remote adjuster. The knob and linkages that change how hard it contacts your tire are sturdy and finely tunable. The stability while getting on and off the bike is perfect, so the geometry of the frame that holds everything is well designed. The quick release mechanism that holds the rear of the bike in place is way stronger than I expected. It's capable of bending the whole trainer frame more than an 1/8", which means it's strong as heck. There is no way it's going to crack, come loose, or fail in any way. The QR axle supplied is actually higher quality than what came on my bike! Overall I'm completely blown away by what can be sold at this price. If I could take off 1/16 of a star on the review (not even half a star) the only thing I could possibly complain about is that at a certain RPM I can create a weird resonance that makes a weird ringing sound. But it's so quiet without the resonance, still pretty dang quiet with it, and solved by just lowering or raising the RPM a bit (pedaling cadence, gear selection) that I can barely even complain. In other words, just pedal a bit faster and it quiets down.

Burns through tires
For the basics of turning my Mountain Bike into an indoor bike the MAX Racer Pro does the job for the price I paid. It was very easy to set up and start using. I did heed other reviews and got an indoor training tire for my bike. Like some of those other reviews, I too experienced the roller chewing through the rubber of the tire at contact points; so much so that the pieces of rubber turn the wall behind the bike black. Even though the unit was advertised as a 7 level resistance model, the one I got has 8 levels of resistance. Even so, the resistance is not as noticeable as I would have thought. Now, because of the roller burning through the rubber I have stopped using the resistance roller and now only using my bikes gears and the MAX Racer as a support unit. Unfortunately without the resistance I can not peddle fast enough to bring my HR up the 100-120 bpm I need to have an effective Cardio workout. The end result is a choice between replacing chewed up tires on a regular basis or a HR sitting just below effectiveness due too my naturally low resting HR. The RAD MAX Racer Pro will do the job, just be aware there are additional considerations to keep in mind.

Well built, smartly designed. Get the one without the remote if you have gears on your bike.
This is a fantastic deal. I don't know why anyone would buy an exercise bike at $500+ when this plus a real bike (as in, one that can help move people from point A to point B) is such a good option and floor space is at such a premium these days. It's not really any wider than my handlebars and only adds a few inches to the overall length of the bike. It does add an inch or two to the frame and pedal height though. This means that while it doesn't really take up extra space, mounting and dismounting could be awkward if your bike's cross bar is already at crotch level. It folds up nicely too, with the resistance motor pivoting inward so that it doesn't take up a bunch of extra width on its own. The resistance motor's remote has a pretty small clip and while it is sort-of quick to release, it is still a screw. I was hoping for a quick release handle. So it takes a bit of time to unscrew, then you have to coil up the cable and put it *somewhere*. There's no place to clip it to the stand itself. To be honest though, I don't use it. The gearing on my bike alone has been more than sufficient to raise/lower the difficulty of a ride. I do miss having the trip computer that most exercise bikes have. Standalone trip computers don't seem that pricey, so I might pick one up. Might be easier to find something that hooks up to fitness apps that way too. On the very first day riding it, I found that a smartphone or tablet stand is a must. TL;DR: Great product, sturdy and simple. In fact, you probably want to save $20-30 and get the simpler model without a remote.

and then it will eat through your training tire like crazy, leaving nasty stains behind it and on ...
So you either set this too close, if you want proper resistance, and then it will eat through your training tire like crazy, leaving nasty stains behind it and on the spindle, coupled with burning rubber smell. Or you leave a millimeter of space as suggested by the manual so that when you actually sit on it, it will have minimal rolling resistance. Except the magnetic resistor doesn't really do anything even on the hardest level, and it's super-easy to pedal for a regular cyclist. So while it's a good product for the price, I wouldn't recommend cheapoing out on a proper stationary if you are more serious about riding. It's a good entry level item though.

Bruyant

Nice unit, works well.
I always get out of shape during the Canadian winter so I thought I should try a bike trainer. This Max trainer has worked out very well. I hang my recumbent on it and I get a low-impact aerobic workout every day. The specs say the minimum wheel size is 26", and my bike has a weird rear wheel size (25", in fact) so I was a bit worried about the fit, but the resistance roller easily adjusts to reach my rear tire. With my slick tires it's pretty quiet. Apparently knobbly trail tires are quite noisy. The Max trainer has a resistance setting which I basically ignore. I just set it somewhere in the middle and use my 9 gears to vary the resistance. That works for me.
