This thing is great if you need a little extra storage on your vehicle - works with 1.25" hitch
My SUV has wimpy towing capabilities (darn crossovers) and so my hitch is only 1.25" which meant the larger 5 foot luggage racks wouldn't work. This one is a little smaller at like 4 foot (or something close to that) but it still is pretty big and built solid. One of the things I liked about this model is that the extension rod pushes it out away from the tailpipe (and upwards a little too for better clearance) so you don't have to worry about it hitting something if you go over a bump, or be concerned about your tailpipe melting something on it (think that is a prob with other models). It is also very sturdy. There are a couple bolts in the middle that hold everything together (so was initially worried about that) but after using it a couple times...have no worries at all. The mesh base is sturdy and it has nice higher side rails that come up and make it easy to secure everything we have needed to haul. Have used it on the freeway, on dirt roads up mountain passes, and around town (cause it seems we always forget something and have to run to the gas station or grocery store before our adventure starts). Have used it a couple times with a storage bag we purchased: CZC AUTO Expandable Hitch Cargo Carrier Bag. And it has been perfect perfect perfect. The only thing it doesn't do (or maybe we just haven't figured it out) is fold away. So the profile is pretty large when storing. Think you would need to dissemble at least some of it to get it collapse down smaller.

Very well designed carrier performed to expectations, and I'm fussy!
After reading many positive reviews and understanding the workings of a carrier like this I realized it is exactly what we needed to increase our Accord's carrying capacity to transport our daughter's possessions to her first year at university. A 1560 mile trip from California to Ohama. We only loaded the carrier with about half load as that turned out to be all we needed. I had read the few negative reviews and, being an engineer familiar with load bearing devices, I will say that this carrier is well designed. I bought the class one hitch type so max load according tot he instructions is 300 pounds. The hitch max tongue load for the Accord is about 200 pounds. The Carrier weighs about 35pounds so max load is 165 pounds of cargo. The only way someone would bend the support as one review mentioned is to seriously over load the carrier and/or to drive extensively on a very potholed or bumpy dirt road. Driving on paved roads or Interstate highways will not cause any damage. I did not put any accessory lighting on as the license plate and brake/tail lights were completely visible with the load on the back. Some retro-reflective tape added a bit of visibility at night. To prevent the hot exhaust from affecting the cargo bag and contents I devised a devious scheme where I took a dryer vent and hose clamped it to the tail pipe as the chrome tip does not remove on the Accord allowing for any other more elegant method. Please see the photo attached for mounting method. The end of the vent directed the copious exhaust gases, blasting out at highway speeds, to exit down and to the side away from the carrier. We did put a StowAway Hitch Tightener which prevents side to side movement and rattling of the hitch in the receiver when moving. We also used the Wallaroo Cargo Bag which performed perfectly. At our destination we dismantled the carrier and nested the halves together, as when it was delivered, it fit in the back of the Accord's roomy trunk leaving a lot of room for our few bags on the return trip.

Exceeded My Expectations!
I ordered this to help carry items we couldn't fit in the family car when we would go on vacation and it has worked out great. The carrier is wide, very well made and nicely designed. I like the raised edges, this helps secure cargo but also serves as a great spot to attach straps for your cargo. I use bungee cords and the edges have plenty of spots where you can attach the cords to. The bottom/floor is made of sturdy material and stays strong because of the supports underneath. I didn't load it with heavy things like a loaded cooler instead I put big light things on it. I had a stroller, beach chair, boogie board and some small things. I wrapped them up in a tarp to protect it from the rain then secured it with bungee cords followed by straps. Also if you will notice the rack actually has a little bit of a rise instead of being flat with the hitch. This is a nice touch because my wife worried about the tail pipe burning the cargo but instead it was not even close to being an issue. I will say that it doesn't fold to be smaller but that is ok for me. Also it would be a good idea to add some reflective stickers to give it some better visibility. Overall this thing really helped me out... even saving me from having to buy a bigger vehicle. I get the benefit of carrying more cargo with out having to move up in size of the car. Then when I am done with it I put it in storage and keep a smaller car for everyday use. So far I have only used it for the 3 or 4 road trip/vacations and it has not disappointed. I would recommend it to anyone thinking of getting one!

Performed well
I attached this rack to my Volkswagen Beetle for a trip from the East coast all the way to the West coast. It carried my 100 pounds of luggage very well!
