Features you want for a tactical headlamp.
Overall, I'm very happy with the product. This is one that Princeton Tech got right. From the manufacturer that likes to put lots of neat-o, gee-whiz features on their products, they've gone simple and it pays off. I've had the original Petzel tikka tactical for years and I might like this one better. If you are looking for an actual tactical headlamp, this is what you want. Pros: o The strap is fuzed edge out, meaning, the burnt ends are sewn outside so they can't rub or abrade on your head. o the band/molle mount is actually curved like a human cranium, and the strap runs inside to act as additional padding, though even the plastic is smooth and comfortable on the forehead. o Strap is simple, slide and loop style, no fancy clips to break, the two seams are doubled-back cross stitch. o The hinged battery compartment has a thumb screw thats easy to manipulate and is gasketed for water resistance. (claims 1m submersion) o Operation: Here's the big one- it has a single, large, firm click pad. It would be easy to operate in gloves or the rain, it has three settings, DIM, MEDIUM, and BRIGHT, in that order. There is a three second timer that enables the user to go from on to off without cycling through the other modes to get to off again. Transition from white light to red/colored is a simple swipe up motion that softly locks into place. This is everything you want in your field/tactical light. (It drove me nuts in the field to see soldiers flipping through the modes their PX "tactical" headlamps, white, green, blue, purple, finally to an often insanely bright red, and often had me wondering why a good tactical headlamp wasn't available.) o This light is NOT 'surface of the sun' bright, and if thats what you want, you shouldn't be looking under "tactical" headlights. Bright is not very tactical. o It does NOT appear to be self-discharging (battery drain when off) which has been a problem with ALL of my other Princeton Tech lights, with all battery types. (seriously though, WTF PTech?) o The baseplate mount is cool, I can see it being useful not stretching a headband over my ACH, forgetting its up there only to fumble-fk with it when trying to mount NVGs. CONS: o This thing is a CHONK. Its not heavy, its a little chunky and high profile. Thats okay, though, the chonk helps make it rugged. I'm not too upset. o The ratchet system feels kind of meh, but it locks in tight enough for government work. o The plastic FEELS a little light, but I'm sitting here bending the spare "molle" bracket close to the point of unreasonable-ness and it doesn't seem to be worse for the wear. o Its a little on the 'spensive side. At 60 bucks its the top tier of the mid grade headlamps. I'm not sure why it warrants that price at based on its simplicity. (other than the trademarked "multi-cam") BUT, it does the job properly, and thats worth a few extra dollars. Minus one star for the cons, but good overall job, PTech.

Great but red lamp very dim.
Had one of these on deployments and it was awesome. The LED light is super bright and you can easily change color combos with red, blue and green light shades. I gave it 4 stars because the red light is very dim. I even went into a pitch black room and you could barely see anything with it. The one I had before of same/similar model worked really well especially for our night training and during dark hours but this just wasn't the same. Still a great headlamp but just be aware.

Quality
Well made small and light and plenty bright enough for most needs. If you want to light up the forest this is not the light for you, it is a great tactical light with the red filter.

Very happy
Love this thing. I got this to be a hands free illumination option when using my helmet. The helmet mount works very well with my Wilcox NVG shroud. The OD green is slightly darker than TW's ranger green on the ballistic exfil. I am very happy with the purchase

I love it
Took this up in the mountains for 5 days and loved it! The red filter switch is perfect for nighttime. No fumbling through the different modes for the red light. Perfect for rolling a blunt/ joint at night in the dark. Or sneaking out of your tent to go to the bathroom in the woods! It really helps! Lol smart design, simple, tactical, and waterproof! You can’t beat it.

Perfect product for anyone in the military
Great product works as it should. Very Brite with many functions such as brightness adjust and red, blue, and white light capabilities. This also comes with an nvg mount adapter so you can remove the light from the head band and attach it to your helmet without the head band getting all stretched out. Seriously wasn't expecting all the add ons that make this seriously perfect for any military personnel. Seriously affordable and the only piece that you will ever need.

Very low quality
I'm done with Princeton products. This is a second time I've thought I was on to something good for my needs only to be disappointed by low quality. 2 identical brackets come with this light. With one the light falls right off and the second, I can't remove the light from the bracket. With two axle pins of about .062 in diameter of plastic I didn't dare get two forceful for fear of axle failure. Now I just have some basic lame headlamp. 2 out of 2 bad experiences with Princeton. Don't waste your money and find something better. They get one star for concept.

Excellent Headlamp
Excellent and durable headlamp. It performs exactly as advertised and was exactly what I wanted. The one negative review that I read was silly lol. Jarod must've been referring to another headlamp. Anyway, if you're looking for a simple, tactical headlamp--you won't regret this one.

Great adaptable light
Fantastic well built, fits onto duty equipment seamlessly. Just enough light for tasks, without bleaching.

Pleasantly surprised by this light
I had been looking at purchasing this headlamp in Australia for sometime now, but the price has always put me off. It then popped up on Amazon AU for between 1/4 and 1/3rd of the regular retail price. I was initially skeptical as it seemed too good to be true . On arrival I thoroughly inspected the packaging and the light and was very impressed. Quality control needs a little attention as there were a few mould dags on the molle bracket which needed to be paired off in order for it to fit. I suspect this may have accounted for the cheap price. Lamp performs flawlessly otherwise with 3 good light intensities and 3 filters. Filters are easy to changeover as are the batteries. My only complaints would be that its a little fiddly to change mounts and to get them to lock in, removing also a little difficult. The strap is just a head band, not much support, and for the price this usually retails at I would expect a full head harness . Plastic parts also seem a little brittle, so I wouldnt go to rough when changing mounts. Other than that the lamp so far seems just about perfect for night navigation and camp work and for that price i can live with the minor inconveniences.
