I ordered this mister for my mother the same day I ordered the stainless steel Norpro for myself. They both had similar reviews, so I got this white one to match her kitchen, and the stainless Norpro for mine. I was more than a little jealous when hers turned out better than mine. They're both clear so you can see to fill it, but this one is smooth, heavy glass; the Norpro is acrylic that takes on a cloudy look after some use. The Prepara gives a nice, even mist--the closest I've found to the unhealthy aerosol cans. Like with any non-aerosol mister, you're going to get a few larger droplets or "squirts" at times, particularly towards the end of the spray when the pressure is running out. Most of the small gripes I've read about with all air-powered misters just come with the territory of going aerosol-free. If you're making a change, you have to expect things to be different. People seem to get really disappointed or even irate when air misters don't spray the same as aerosol cans, or natural sugar substitutes don't taste like regular sugar--or artificial sugar. But you can't make a change and then blame the product when it's just not the same. The only thing that will spray just like an aerosol can is an aerosol can. This mister does, however, come close. So far it has performed nicely and consistently, and in my opinion gives the best spray you can get without chemical propellants. I've noticed that releasing the leftover pressure after each use seems to help give more consistent results. The spray is not as fine or as even when mom forgets to "let the air out" in between uses. It looks like it holds very little oil, but that small amount lasts a surprisingly long time because you use so much less when you spray instead of pour oil. It's also nice for spraying onto salads and for putting just enough oil on pasta to keep it from sticking. The more pumps you give it, the finer the mist; a fine spray to coat meat takes 7-8 pumps; a coarser spray for salads or coating pans only needs 5-6. I've also read horror stories about "exploding" misters. This won't happen if you take your cues from the sprayer. You can feel the pressure build with each pump; when you start feeling decent resistance, stop pumping; it's pressurized and ready to spray. Any mister that you overpump will blow its top--all that pressure has to go somewhere; if you don't force too much pressure in, the mister won't force it back out. Every time I use this mister at my mom's, I consider swiping it back and switching it for mine, but I don't have the heart. I'll just wait till my Norpro wears out and then replace it with this model. To me, the lack of chemicals and the ability to choose my own type and quality of oil more than makes up for any nominal difference people find in the performance of this mister over spray cans. UPDATE 11/9/12: We did find one design flaw with this mister. PICK IT UP BY THE BASE. The top part with the sprayer and pumping action makes up most of the unit, and if you grab it around the middle, you're still only holding onto the top part--which has no way to snap or lock onto the heavier glass base. Apparently dad picked it up by the middle (which is where you would naturally pick up a bottle of any kind), and the base slid right out and shattered on the floor. Of course the two parts have to be free of each other to allow the pumping aciton, but maybe they can improve newer models with a twist-to-lock feature so it stays together unless you're actually pumping it (like on pump bottles of hand soap). Still the best mister I've tried, and now that we know we'll just be careful to pick the new one up by the bottom. It lasted well over a year with no complaints about quality or performance, and I would still recommend it with this small word of caution about handling. UPDATE April, 2016: We did replace my parent's broken Prepara Mister, and that unit is still working and looking like new in mid-2016. I still prefer it to my Norpro, that looks rather cheap and cloudy now--although it does still work, but with a lot of rinsing and declogging. This is still the best non-aerosol oil sprayer I've found, and I still recommend it to those looking for ways to make small, healthy changes in their daily lifestyle.

Very happy but a little pricey compared to the competition
I have been using the Misto for years and was concerned about their somewhat vague answers to BPA questions and the fact that the bodies are aluminum interiors, completely ruling out using not just for olive oil but wanting on to spray balsamic vinegar too. I was also concerned that the neck of my Mistos had the black paint wearing off from screwing/unscrewing plastic collar. So I had this Prepara on my wish list for ages and finally took the plunge at about twice the price of a Misto (give a take a buck or two depending on your color choice of Prepara). I am very pleased with the real glass body - besides being good old safe inert glass it is also hefty enough that I don't have the tipping problem that I had all the time with the Mistos - the tipping is really what got my goat after these years. Also, I can see the amount of oil, another great plus! I have had not any issues with it spitting, streaming or not spraying. Perhaps my years with a Misto has familiarized me with the normal operation of one of these things that I am not taking off stars for what is normal operation/user error. Curiously, I have not found any type of "special filter" that they mention in the description to allow herbs or such to be diffused without clogging the sprayer. I am not into that sort of thing so it is not a biggie for me but all I can see is the same gizmo the Misto has at the end of its tube (is the Misto claiming to be able to use herbs too, maybe?) Now why I took off one star: One -The Package. I am not talking about the shipping package but the normal retail/if it was in a store packaging. It is attractive but a swift PITA to get out. I wouldn't take a star off for that but add to the frustration the fact that the manual is not in the packaging, it is in the mister. I mean IN the mister. I needed needle nosed pliers to remove the instructions from inside the glass body. That just seemed like a deliberate nananannanana. Peeve number two was mentioned by another reviewer recently and I must echo it! The cap - there is no way to set the cap down while using because as that reviewer said the top is rounded, no good putting it upside down and the other way - the plunger tube is a little longer than the outer cap so you have to delicately balance it on that (which is what I am getting very good at doing!). The only other choice is to lay it on its side to suffer certain doom rolling off the kitchen counter to the ceramic tile floor. I have actually had the plunger tube out of the cap looking to see if it is possible to shave it down at the top end to get it to sit up inside the cap further, therefore have the nice large edge of the cap to set on the counter. It might be possible. I have not tried it but have a second Prepara in red (RED!) on my wish list and may try the shave down on this one when I have a backup. Also, there is the price differential. How much more this is than the Misto depends (here anyway) on what color Prepara you are interested in. I am not sure the differential is worth it. If you want to spray vinegar, it is worth it as you don't even want to THINK about aluminum. Anyway, all in all with the price in consideration and the couple of peeves I took off a star. However, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to anyone. I am just looking for near Mary Lou Retton stuff to give five star reviews to.

Actual mist, poor material in retaining ring, repair with gasket
Update: Ya these will last 2 months if you are lucky. Unless you do not use them. The metallic looking plastic ring is going to break, I have returned one already and this is a never ending process of wearing oil all over and finding the crack in the plastic. HOWEVER I replaced the cracked part with two 55mm (internal diameter) gaskets and it works great. Which is good as everything else out there looks useless. https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07VM8QBK6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1 I was worried the cap would not sit right on the counter, but the pump part that sticks out is actually moveable, so the cap sits just fine on the counter. The other options I looked at had actual problems, such as being made of aluminum (like I am going to use that for pricey avocado oil) or could not go past 45° (really), or worst of all had some goofy combo sprayer that sounded like a recipe for dribbles. This produces a very fine mist.

Too much effort if you fry things occasionally.
I wanted to be a bit more healthy so I brought this. It's well made and feels very solid in your hands. In principle it sounds marvelous. In practice, it's cumbersome to use. If I want to fry some eggs 3 times a week, it would take me 5 minutes of vigorous pumping ( as ridiculous as it sounds ) to get it working. Even then it wouldn't spray, it would simply sputter out. So it's become a well intentionally brought gadget that now sits under the sink and is never used. If it's not easy to use and it takes too much time and gives lackluster results.

Never did work - don't bother
I bought this item - put herbs in it - like they said I could and it never worked. Unfortunately, I didn't try it before I added the garlic, but, no matter. I bought it to add garlic, and it's junk. It pumps fine - but nothing comes out of the nosal. Don't waste your $$.

Sufficiently pleased to consider buying a 2nd mister.
I bought this mist sprayer about 4 months ago and have now had sufficient time to evaluate the product. In general terms I am pleased with my purchase. It works well delivering a fine spray of oil which is both economical and good for a healthy lifestyle. However there are a couple of very minor issues. Firstly, the process of pressurising the oil results in the oil becoming a little cloudy and this spoils the visual effect of an otherwise attractively designed product. I am using a good quality olive oil but without any herb additives. Secondly, I find that the mister loses pressure fairly quickly and if I want to use it the following day then it will need re-pressurising. Maybe I have to tighten the top a bit more but I do not want to risk stripping the thread and rendering the product useless. The supplied instructions are a little scant. Overall I am sufficiently pleased with this mister that I am considering purchasing another one so that I have a choice of either olive or sunflower oil. It is excellent for making pancakes. Edited on 3 July 2011. I plucked up courage and tightened the cap slightly and this has solved the pressure problem. I think this now warrants a full 5 stars and I have adjusted the rating accordingly.
