Sets really fast! Use Ice Water!!
Haven't used any other brand to compare so that's why I gave it 3 stars. Followed measurements exactly and still ended up mixing it by feel and consistency, Using ice water gives you a little more time to use before it sets.

So I read some of the reviews about this not being good and I disagree. The only reason I gave it a 4 and not 5 is because I was expecting to be able to roll it in my hand but I only mixed it in a tin bowl because I figure it would get all over my hands and it looks like its too lumpy but once its in a tray and on your teeth its fine, the lumps go away and it takes good molds but thats just my opinion and I havent had a bad mold where it set before I was ready to use so maybe people are not moving fast enough to get it to work for them….. i use 1 scoop of powder and 2 scoops of water by the way. I would recommend this to anyone needing impressions of their teeth.

Excellent for casts
Bought this to make a cast of my upper teeth after I noticed a chip out of one of my molars. Works excellent! If you are new to using alginate for casting, there’s plenty of excellent information on YouTube for getting the alginate:water ratio right. This sets fast, maybe just over two minutes using ice cold water (sets faster with heat) but it sets strong, so small details don’t seem to get lost from it ripping apart. The color change upon setting is nice too, but ultimately was not essential for my use - this is probably of more value to busy dental techs. The hardest part for me was making plaster casts (retroactive pun?) from the mold without leaving bubbles in the plaster, even using thin plaster and mushing it around in the low spots. This is overall good stuff and I’m sure many other uses for it can be found in molding/crafting so long as one is aware that it will eventually dry out and lose shape. I give it two snaps up

Be smart about alginate and water ratio
This alginate worked well for my mold making application, but I had to use a different ratio of alginate to water. The package calls for a 1:2 ratio of alginate to water (7 grams alginate to 15 ml [which is also 15 grams] water), which will result in quick-setting, very hard alginate. This is great for the small batches used for dental molds, but doesn't work at all for larger batches to mold larger objects. A better ratio for large molds is at least 1:3. For my application, I used a ratio of 1:4, which resulted in a firm-but-pliable mold. Also, it is important to use the coldest water available for the greatest working / set time, and to use distilled water to reduce/prevent clumping. I stored a one gallon jug of distilled water in the refrigerator overnight, to use with mixing.
