I initially ordered a large, but received a medium. The medium is small, even for 1.5 lbs main coon mix kitten. He barely fits into it. Thankfully, he prefers to sit and snuggle than stand or roam. The outside of the carrier is built sturdy, and I liked that you had one side of mesh and enclosure on all the other sides. As Mr. Biggles gets nervous when he can see things going on, he feels more secure with some enclosure, but still have ventilation. The crate came with no soft padded liner, and the vinyl inside is thin and Mr. Biggles had it tore up in a week, he is a kitten after all. I sewed a pillow to place inside, and their was no room left over. You must use a very thin liner. The mesh is poorly sewn on the inside, and again, in ONE day Mr. Biggles had it torn through it. Considering this crate is for small animals, which includes; ferrets, gerbils, rabbits, all which I have owned, I am certain, they would have done the same. I had to use a thick needle to puncture through and resew everything back into place. This was no easy feet, as regular thread broke, but thicker thread would penetrate. So if you keep plastic thread on hand, this will help with repairs. I didn't think of it at the time, but on hind sight, I do which there were pockets for storage. It would be handy for leashes, paperwork, toys, and treats. The zippers on the crate are flimsy. In one week Mr. Biggles figured out how to open them and escaped, which we thought we had remedied with paperclips, but he managed to get his head out, and I'm scared of him choking. Imagine this with a ferret, who are twice the trouble and energy? There are reflects on the top, and they reflect well, nice and bright, which is handy and safe. Mr. Biggles has his crate in the bathroom, and the night light reflects, without blinding. The crate doesn't stay standing up if you unzipped the two side flaps, as it collapsed on our kitten, and this made it uncomfortable for him to get in out. If you want something mid-grade then this is for you, especially if your not sure if you want a soft side carrier or a hard, but the price is a bit much for what you are getting and according to the size of the carrier. I could actually buy a better quality dog carrier that would come with with pads, a a strap, and a bandanna in very large size, all for the same price.
