1000 mile road trip, no problems
I bought this just before moving from the Bay Area of California to Seattle. My car was packed so the bike was going to have to go on the back. I have a fairly heavy bike -- it's a women's Schwinn Jaguar, which is more like a beach cruiser type frame, but with 10 speeds. I was a little paranoid about it falling off or damaging my car after reading some reviews, so I read the instructions carefully and took tips from others. I did the following things, which helped my peace of mind, and prevented damage to my car, the bike, or other's cars: 1. I did a practice run putting it on a few days before the trip, making sure the straps were secure and I was confident installing it. It took about 15 minutes the first time, and only 3 minutes the 2nd time. 2. The metal hooks that go on the sides definitely might have damaged the paint of my car, so I wrapped them in electrical tape, which is what some other reviewers suggested. It worked very well, and my car has no damage. 3. I stopped after the first mile to tighten the straps. I really put my back into it and made sure they were secure. I stopped every two hours to use the restroom and checked the straps each time. I had to tighten them twice! The jiggling of the bike had caused them to loosen a bit, because the hooks slid around making the straps looser. So I'm glad I stopped to check. They weren't terribly loose, and the bike was still secure, but at speeds of 70 MPH I didn't want any accidents. 4. I cleaned the rubber stoppers and wiped my car off before putting it on to make sure no dirt was there to damage the paint. I also put some tissues down between the rubber stoppers and my car as an added layer of protection. No damage. 5. I used the excess straps to secure my bikes wheels, and to prevent the handlebars from turning while driving, and I made sure the pedals weren't going to touch my paint. 6. I bought the Allen adapter bar for the women's frame style bike. Apparently with this bike rack I didn't need it, but I wanted to get it just in case, to make sure the bike was able to be weighted evenly and not tilted at all. I'm glad I got it. It added some weight, since the bar is heavy metal, but it kept my bike centered and not askew. So, all those things, and by mile 400 I was feeling pretty confident. I would totally use this again for a road trip. It felt safe and secure, did the job, and didn't damage my vehicle. It will also be useful for across-town trips. Recommend! I only give it 4 stars because I had to wrap the metal hooks in tape in order to make sure it didn't hurt my paint job.

Carried Away
I was a bit skeptical about this product as it’s universal. Usually a one size does not fit all. I am Please with this product as it does what is says. I have an Audi A8L and unfortunately I can’t get a roof rack with the L version. I really didn’t want to put anything on the trunk as it may scratch the paint with the metal hooks used. To solve this problem I wrapped painters tape along the inside and edges of the hooks. This works but it still rather the company have installed some rubber inside the bottom of the hooks to prevent this. Other than that I have no real gripe. The straps, once secured to the vehicle hold in place and I don’t need to worry about the wind loosening them over time. I drove at 60mph with my bike on the back and when I arrived at my destination the bike was still secure. I wonder if there are replacement rubber straps that hood down the bike as I feel over time they can become stretched and worn and rubber does with age and may eventually become brittle and break. I guess I’ll check the website for that. Overall I’m happy with this item. I now longer have to put my bike in the back seat and worry about ripping the Leather seats.

Needs adapting to work on your car
The media could not be loaded. I mounted the rack on my sedan following the instructions that came with the product. Mounting was straightforward. Problem1: Left metallic pedal rubs against the vehicle’s trunk door no matter where it is positioned. I cannot easily remove the pedal in my bike. I capped the pedal with an old boot with rubber sole. This works very well so far in protecting the paint finish. Problem 2: The license plate is obstructed by the rack and bike. Cops might stop me, we''ll see. You need to immobilize the front, back and pedal wheels with bungee ropes. This is very important to prevent rubbing against the car. So far I am satisfied with the rack. However, I do not get the feeling that this is a highly sturdy device. I will use it for carrying my bike through regular streets and secondary roads. I do not feel the rack will endure highway driving at high speed and long distances.

Great Value
I was a little hesitant at first but after a 200 mile trip to Rhode Island, the bike did not budge. I've also had 2 bikes on it with no problem. The only thing I would advise it getting the extra rubber "gloves" that slip on the coated steel tips and also the Pads so you won't have any scuff marks on the paint. It's also nice that you can open the trunk with the bikes off but still leave the rack on.

Works well, but cumbersom
I like that the bike clips into the holders. But the installation of the rack on the trunk is tedious. There's a bit of a balancing act that has to be done. Just be sure that the straps are pulled tight.

It’s sturdy.
This bike rack has been sturdy the few times we used it so far. For us, not youngsters or even middle agers, the installation has been a bit of a challenge. It has taken both of us at least 1/2 to 3/4 of an hour to get it positioned correctly, secured tightly and bikes mounted. But once it’s all done, everything is secure. The first time we had it on the car I took it to a bike shop with our bikes mounted to have them assess if it appeared stable and secure enough for a future 1000 mile highway trip. The assessment was positive. Based on suggestions in these reviews after using is a couple times, although we had no paint chips, we applied clear door edge guard to the trunk to help mitigate paint chipping in the future. We have not carried bikes on it since applying the edge guard, but we mounted the rack to make sure the clips grasped the frame adequately. They do. For the price, I think this rack will be well worth it once we get more agile at installing it.

It worked on my Jeep Renegade 2016
It travelled around 1600 miles from South Dakota to North Carolina with two bikes. That thing would shake like crazy! All the time I’d think: that’s it! We’re loosing the bikes now lol but it ended up making all the way here! So it did make the job! But it’s not very sturdy! I have a jeep renegade 2016!!! We put not over the mirror, but underneath on top of the plate

Does what it says on the box
After fee uses, I can set it up under a minute. Have it always in the boot of the car as it does not take a lot of room. Not even once I have seen the bike 5o moving on the mount but I have used additional Velcro strap to hold the front wheel and bottom of the frame together. Worth mention that it did not leave any marks on the car. I can fully recommend

Works great
Haven't tried with two bikes but with one works great. once you get a hang of it, it is easy to put on and off (car is 5 series BMW, if somene's thinking if it's good for sedan). Have driven high speed on motorway and some rough terrain aswell with no problems whatsoever, no rattling or coming loose or anything.

Fantastic
Researched bike racks that would carry 2x MTB for some time. Allen seem to be a reputable company in this field - and I can understand why. A really intuitive design that can be folded flat when in storage, the bike rack can be unfolded and assembled ready to transport your two bikes in five minutes. When in transit I was a bit nervous initially, but after several journeys in all types of conditions I'm most impressed. Very happy with this purchase.

Not fit for my car
Before I order it, I did read whole description about item and then ordered it. A week later when I received it I found a table on the side of box that shows which car is fit or which car is not. I have my Nissan Rogue 2017 and it is not fit for that. I returned it and I have to order another model and wait another week to receive. I put table here for other costumers.

Excelente
