Wish the batteries were not NiCd but unit worked ok.
I like the product but was disappointed when I received it and discovered that the batteries inside were NiCd (have a memory) rather than NiMH or Li type. Not that many companies still use NiCd, which means people do not know about care and use. NiCd remembers (or has a memory) about recent discharge before recharge cycle, so if users do not fully discharge them before recharging, the battery's capacity is reduced in the future. This is also related to recharge, as in you want to fully charge a completely discharged battery each time. This means that using the auto charger which is unlikely to run long enough to give the unit a full charge is a problem. And even if I use it properly, if someone borrows it, they may not and make a lot of work for me to restore the battery. Had I known it was NiCd I probably would have passed on it, but when it came I needed it, and so I am keeping it. Given this the unit, which came partially charged, was run completely down and then put through an initial 12 hour AC uninterrupted charge. It easily blew up an inflatable couch we were using, along with a mattress. Once it began to slow down I discharged it completely followed by another full charge. All other reviews are correct. It only runs when no plugged in, so you probably want some other king of pump available as a backup. Given the cost of batteries for a battery operated pump, this is a cost effective replacement.

Did not last 1 season
The pump was able to inflate our 8' x 12' floating island! Even including some 'help' from our toddler which wasted some battery and lost some air. The battery was pretty much used up by the time we filled the island, but this thing is HUGE. I didn't time it, but I'd say it took 15-20 minutes to inflate the island, but much of that time was spent hassling with the massive inflatable, on a boat, with kids "helping". My impression was that it inflated pretty fast. We had another plug-in 12V pump that we started using simultaneously (multiple chambers on this island) but we gave up on because it was pathetically slow compared to the Airhead Pump. We plugged the Airhead AHP-12R in to 12V for recharging and used it again at the end of the day to fully deflate the island. During inflation, we topped off the inflatable island with a hand pump, which i highly recommend. We purchased the Airhead AHP-1 (two-stage, high volume hand pump) and it worked great. I will say that the hand-pump was nowhere close, in speed, of filling the raft as the AHP-12R was. We tried it, then abandoned it as a filling device but did used it to top off. For some reason, I thought I read in my research that this pump could be operated with a dead battery by connecting directly to a car battery with included alligator clips. This is not the case, it only works after being charged as others have noted. It can be charged via included 110V (home) or 12V (car acc/cig lighter) cords. Even if it only lasts one season, I would buy another one next year. If it fails prematurely or performance issues start emerging, I will post an update. Update: it did not make it to the end of the season. I rechearged it regularly but by the end of the first season it did not have enough juice to fill a two-person toe-behind. I would not repurchase.

awesome pump, tons of power, great battery life
Fine, it's bright yellow... but the pump is awesome. Needed to replace our airbed pump, and this one works MUCH better than original. First, it comes with attachments similar to our old pump (3 sizes of nozzles to channel the air flow). Second, the fully charged battery lasts weeks if not months on standby (charge it once, stick it on the the shelf or in the closet, and use it again several weeks down the road without having to recharge it). Third, that fully charged battery won't die on you in just one or two fills of your airbed... nope, you can fully blow up your airbed several times on just one charge (oh, and just for note, we have a queen sized mattress). And no signs of overheating like our old pump. The only reason I docked it one star is that you can't use the pump while plugged in, but it seems there's some technology restriction there. I've only seen pumps that allow one or the other, not both: use while plugged in only, or cordless(charge and use without the plug).

Back to buy another 12 years later.
I bought this pump 11 and a half years ago, and I'm just coming back now to buy my second one because this one will no longer recharge. I could not be happier or more impressed with this product. Please note that one has to treat these batteries with some care, charging them fully overnight before each trip is recommended, As well as letting them run down before recharging. These are not like your cell phone. (And no, it won't run when plugged in, but since I take it out in the woods to pump up my camping air mattress I couldn't imagine why that would matter. Some people just don't plan ahead I guess. And never get out of their cars...kinda sad.) Anyway, disregard the whiners. This thing is a road warrior that served me well for many years of regular use, and I hope its replacement unit is as good.

Works great where a rechargeable or battery powered pump is the best option
This pump works great for the way I use it. I have multiple towable inflatables that I cannot inflate until I get to the lake, where there is no easy access to power. I tow these inflatables with a Personal Water Craft which does not provide easy access to its 12 volt battery. So, a rechargeable or battery powered pump is my best option. With one recharge, this pump can easily inflate three O'Brien 56" tubes at the lake and then inflate them again at home when I set them out to dry. I'm impressed with the amount of pumping on a single recharge. I do need to top the tubes off with a hand pump at the lake to get them as firm as needed but the rechargeable pump takes care of the hard part and inflates them almost all the way. Recharging time is 8 hours so I need to be sure the pump is fully charged before I leave for the lake.

Compact but Powerful
Frankly, when it arrived, I thought it was too small to do the job. Our Airhead two-person tube is pretty big, but this little pump filled it easily - and it fits nicely in the boat bag. Don't bother pumping up your float before you leave the dock; save the space on board! This little pump will do the trick.

Works well. Noise level quite low. Battery charges quickly and last pretty good.
Works very well. The noise level is ok compare to my old one. Recharge quickly and the battery is powerful. It come with a 12V connector and 110V connector. I bought this for Big Agnes double Z air mattress. None of the adaptors fits the air mattress connector. I had to cut one. It works fine now.

Really has enough power to inflate
Love this product except for one detail. Wish the adaptors would lock onto the device so they didn't pop off with pressure. Other than that, the battery power lasts and it is so convenient at the beach to blow up inflatables.

Seemed great...
Worked great after it's first charge. Only a few more charges and it worked less and less every time. Only managed to inflate my raft up twice on one charge. Seems to just die very fast now. Only a month old :(
