SIZES RUN VERY LARGE
I have not tried them yet on a hike, so this review is just for the sizing. These run BIG! I am a petite woman (5’3 120lbs) so I commonly buy youth sizes. Bought the XL based on other reviews, and they are like clown pants. They are about 4” too long so going to have to roll them up, and the waste was so large they would literally fall off when I tried them on. I tightened the internal elastic buttons to the smallest size which makes them not fall off me, but that causes the pants to be so bunched up in the back it looks like I’m wearing a diaper. Wanted to send them back for a large, but now no sizes (other than xl) are available, so guess I’m keeping them and just deal with how horrible they look, as I bought them for a hiking trip I’m going on. If I had to guess, these would probably be the equivalent to a women’s size 8 (i could pull the waistband out probably a good 5” from my stomach), so just keep this in mind when you are selecting a size.

Great Pants! Perfect for hikes
These were perfect for a camping trip to Yosemite. When I unpacked the backpack, I noticed that these were covered in sap!!! Not good for a khaki pair of pants. Threw them in the wash and the sap came right off. I didn't even think of the dirt factor when purchasing this color, but seeing as they cleaned up very nicely, I obviously didn't need to worry! This size Medium was purchase for a 12 year old who normally wears a size 12 Slim. They fit perfect in length, they were a little loose on the waist (but there are buttons to make it tighter). The removal of the legs was great for jumping in a lake mid hike. Two things I wish these pants had: different colors for the zippers (to detach the pants). We saw that on a pair from REI, though I don't recall what brand they were. The right leg had a blue zipper and the left leg had a purple zipper (or vice versa). That made it easy for a kid to figure out which leg went to which. The other pair from REI also had the sides (on the bottom of the leg) that zipped up part way, to allow for shoes to be on when removing the pant legs. These pants (the Columbia pair) did not have any type of zipper on the bottom of the leg, which meant shoes had to be removed if it got too hot for pants.

Didn't work like I hoped.
I had to try several sizes to find the one that would fit my 11 year old. Most were too tight in the waist but she is not super slender. The Large was too tight and to long, and the XL too loose, and WAY to long. She is average height for a girl her age. So we had to cinch down the waist (they have an adjustable waist) and roll the cuff multiple times. However, we were leaving for a trip to Central America and we couldn't keep re-ordering, nor did stores in our area carry these in the winter time, so we were stuck with them. When it came to usage, we used them primarily for hiking in the jungle where we were also going to be getting soaked in a river. even buttoning them up to capri length didn't keep them from tangling around her ankles and pulling the pants down at the waist once she had to wade through a stream, also tripping her up. We ended up zipping off the bottom to avoid her losing her pants all together. Then the first time we laundered them, the Zipper pull came off completely on one leg, making them pretty useless as pants. They did accept a return as defective, so at least I got my money back. I have several other pair of these for other family members and they worked ok, They are just not sized correctly for tween girls unless you are slender and tall. and we got a defective zipper on our pair.

Girls size too tight in the seat and thigh for me, a small adult.
I searched high and low for an adult petite convertible pant. I am 5'1" and 113lbs. I started out ordering a girls large - too tight through the seat and thigh. Ladies size 4 short- thigh (especially with zipper) - too tight. (Ended up with a ladies 6 short. Thigh and length are great; the waist is too big. There is elastic with buttons to adjust the waist, which works, but it's not at all flattering. Plus the buttons are a source of irritation. I still wore a belt, which was not included.) Since I returned the girls size pants, I can't remember the details like whether those ones had an elastic waist or not. The fabric is great. They dry quickly and mud washes out easily. I like the pockets. Some pockets zipper and others velcro which really makes them functional!

But very easy to zip off
These are not field tested. Agree with some posters that they are hard to zip back on. But very easy to zip off. I will probably put a tag on inside to help my kid figure which goes on which leg. I bought them big so she could wear a long time (she's currently size 5). I was able to get the waistband to fit her as they have the adjustable tags. But they are super long. I think I will do a light hem on them as the material may not stay rolled up, but will keep as I think the xxs would not last for two seasons like I'm sure these will. Anxious to try them out!

Great travel and hiking pants
My husband has 2 pairs of these and he loves them. Being a small adult, I went with the girls size large based on another reviewers comment who is the same height and weight as me (5'2", 104). When I got them the tag said the weight range for large was 93-115 pounds. I thought this was a big range. FORTUNATELY there is an adjustable elastic inside the waist band. When I first put them on I was so disappointed because they were WAY too big. I pulled the elastic on each side and re-buttoned it into the 4th or 5th hole. I was concerned they would look funny because the back was so "scrunched" in, but they looked great. They are so lightweight, comfortable and versatile. My husband says his get wet when he waters the plants and they dry immediately. I am looking forward to wearing them when I travel especially when I go from a cold climate to a warm one! I will be able to zip off the legs and arrive in shorts.

Quality as expected. Currently too large for my 13 years old son but it will fit when he gets older. As always reliable service and fast delivery. Will keep order stuff from Amazon.

Not adults size
These trousers were youth/child size, not adult size, but were not described as such, which is pretty poor. I was buying them for an adult so they were of no use, so I can't really comment on the quality of the trousers, though I have previously found Columbia products to be good quality. It was very frustrating and disappointing that the sellers didn't provide the appropriate information as regards the size.

great for boys too!
Perfect kids pants, will be worn in all seasons besides winter. I purchased xxs for my 3.5 year old son. Theres nothing that looks girly on these, all neutral. Waistline includes elastic and buttons for inside adjusting. Already ordered two more pairs in a size up for future seasons. love Columbia kids clothes.
