Great shorts. Be careful of some key things.
I agree with the other reviewers that these shorts really help the bike comfort level. On my just made up "pain-in-the-butt" scale 1-10, 10 = my butt is on fire, these shorts are about a 4 as indicated below: 10: butt on fire 8: regular athletic shorts & road bike seat (narrow and not much padding) "I need to stop riding for awhile!" 6: regular athletic shorts & wide bike seat with gel cushions and shock absorbing springs "OK, but still sore after a 20 mile ride" 4: these shorts with padding & wide bike seat from scale 6 "Ah, that's better!" 2: My comfy office desk chair that I sit in all day 1: My microfiber deluxe reclining couch potato sofa Key things to look out for: This manufacturer seems to be size and length of drawstring challenged! 1. If you buy the XXL size, you will need to also buy a longer drawstring and install it. XXL is about 44 inch waist and the drawstring is 48 inches. I could not tie it. In fact, I had to fish the drawstring out from inside the waist band it is so short. The company needs to fix this. I would have given them 5 stars if the drawstring was the correct size. 2. Watch the price on these. In the 2 weeks I was returning the XL size because it did not fit (normally I buy XL) and the first XXL size because the price had changed, the price went from $34 to $40 to $22. At the time I'm writing this review they are $24. Really strange. The Amazon free shipping return policy made it not a horrible experience, but who needs to go through that again. 3. Buy a size larger than you think you'll need. In looking for a standard waist size chart on the web, it became apparent that not all manufacturers are the same. This manufacturer definitely is on the smallish end of the range, so if you normally by XL, you will need the XXL. I would assume the same for the other sizes.

Decent Biking Shorts
I just got back into biking when I got a job withing riding distance and was getting a bit sore on my 45 minute commute. These were the first biking shorts I ever bought because I preferred something baggy to hide my physique, which ain't what it used to be. These shorts get the job done, the padding is enough to make riding more comfortable and the pockets are good and deep. I have a 38" waist and I bought size L according to the chart and they fit well enough with the exception that there's a serious plumber's crack problem. Nothing a decent biking jersey/jacket can't cover but still an issue. If you're new to bike shorts like I am, I recommend trying the standard tight black shorts. They are designed to ride high in the back so you don't get the plumber's crack problem if that's an issue. They are a bit more comfortable in my opinion, too, my Bellwethers have more padding than these mountain bike shorts. Just accept the sexiness and give them the normal bike shorts a try. Another option is to buy the biking liners, which are like underwear with bike padding you wear under any shorts or pants of your choosing. Bike shorts are also designed to be worn without underwear, something I wasn't aware of at first.

Nice Shorts
I find these shorts to be a solid product. They are comfortable and the sizing seems true to me. If I had one criticism it is the liner leg opening is a bit tight to me. I liked these shorts enough to order a 2nd pair. Be careful when ordering because the pricing is inconsistent and seems to be a moving target. I paid $20 for a large khaki and wanted black also. The black in the same size is $40. Five days after buying the original khaki pair, I ordered a 2nd, same size and color and the price was $26.02. Amazon was kind enough to give me a "one time" adjustment as a "courtesy."

BDI - still THE BEST!
These are the second pair of BDI Mountain Bike shorts I have purchased - the first pair bought in another city nearly twenty years ago. After riding DAILY in bike shorts every warm weather day since (okay, not always in these), I finally, and reluctantly tossed out my old pair this summer. And then discovered that they were still being made! Virtually identical, other than the length being longer, I ordered the next size up (XXL) as I, regrettably, don't have the same waist size as 20 years ago... And the new ones fit just as perfectly as the original ones did almost two decades ago - I am one happy biker, once again! Thanks, BDI for still making a quality product, with CORRECT sizing, and thanks to Amazon for still carrying them!

Good shorts for the $$
You can spend more and get a better pair of biking shorts, but these are very good for the money. Padding is OK, but not as thick as more expensive shorts. I bought several pairs in various colors. I do like the fact they look like a regular pair of shorts instead of the typical skin tight biker shorts. I can actually get off the bike and go into a business without feeling self-conscious about the shorts I'm wearing. Rode over 2K miles since early this year, almost all of those miles in these shorts sometimes as long as 70 miles at a time. They are reasonably comfortable even on the longer rides.

Great Shorts. Comfortable, Work Very Well. Good Price
I cycle-commute to work 20 miles every day. I wanted some cycling shorts that were cost effective, fit well, had a decent quality chamois (padding) and were styled as street clothes appropriate for an office environment. I stumbled upon these at a discount price ( < $30) and really like them.....so I bought two more. To date, I rotate through the three pairs every week and after six months don't notice any appreciable wear. These have been perfect for my application and I highly recommend them.

Just what I was looking for
I enjoy cycling and ride maybe 30 miles a week so I know I'm not a "hard core" enthusiast. Nevertheless, I was looking for a pair of shorts to make the ride more comfortable without making me look like a freshly shaved goober (sorry, I am NOT shaving my legs!). These are quite comfortable, don't ride up, and don't make me self-conscious when walking around afterwards. I've been washing them on the gentle cycle and line-drying them to be on the safe side. I took the advice of other reviewers and ordered a larger size than I normally wear (I'm a 34" waist and ordered a Large) and am glad I did.
