Clearing a little bit of confusion, hopefully
This four piece paddle seems every bit as robust as any two piece paddle I have seen or tried in this price range and the one I received fit together better than most comparable two piece paddles. I bought it to fit in the backpack with my inflatable and it works great for that purpose. Paddling on flat water I felt no flex or flutter but bracing for balance while getting out of the boat I did feel flex so I will be careful not to stress it. I hopefully will not find myself needing it on whitewater but being so small, light, and handy it will probably find itself going along for the ride as an emergency spare. If I find myself escaping a situation I did not expect the paddle to survive I will be back to upgrade my review, or if it fails a situation that a rec paddle should survive I will be back to drop a star. For now I find it a good value for a four piece paddle. The existing reviews and comments have me confused. Many people are saying they received an 86 inch paddle and one commenter even said they received an 86" paddle that was 130 cm but the one I received (from VMInnovations) is 90.5 inches (also 130 cm unless I am missing something). I cannot help but wonder if there are two different sizes being shipped and it is disconcerting that the listing does not specify length. Another thing that had me confused is some people complaining about one grip being larger than the other. I am an experienced kayaker and I could not figure out what they are talking about until I received mine and was pleased to see it has an indexed grip on one side. This is a feature most low end paddles do not often provide and one that should be mentioned in the bullet points. The higher end paddles will have the index swell molded in or have a slightly oval shape on the control side so your hand knows what the angle of the blade is when your eyes don't have time to look. Mid-range paddles will sometimes have the index indicator sealed under the grip, like this paddle, and if the paddle has none you should tape a piece of rope or a straw lengthwise on the grip, even with the center of the flat back of the paddle, and then get used to using it. There is nothing worse than getting caught by surprise being knocked around by wild water, paddle slipping out of your had forcing you to re-grab it, then try to take a recovery stroke only to have the blade slice through the water pulling you upside down because you did not notice it had spun in your hand. An indexed grip is also a big help when learning how to roll your kayak, and invaluable if you find yourself needing to do a recovery roll in inclement conditions.

It will move your yak.
It's better than no paddle for sure. Slightly heavy, verry tough, need both sometimes....small amount of paddle rattle when you paddle hard, but it's a 4 piece so it's going to have some rattle no matter what. But good enough to paddle with.

For an economy paddle it's fine but this one was machined with an imperceptible burr ...
This is the third solstice paddle I've purchased in addition to the pair that came with the tandem kayak. For an economy paddle it's fine but this one was machined with an imperceptible burr on the male end. It went together a little snug with some twisting motion but required two people working to get it apart. The burr put significant gouges in the female end. I had to file, sand, and finally wire wheel the male end and sand the female end extensively before the two halves would fit together properly. Disappointing quality control. Of course all the filing and wire wheeling completely removed any anodizing on the male end. Although I thoroughly clean the paddles with soap and water every time they're used, I'm sure this one's not going to last long in the salt water environment without significant corrosion damage because I had to take the finish down to bare aluminum on the male end. I would have immediately returned it but I needed to use it the day after it was delivered. Incidentally, I needed to purchase this one because the locking button came out of one of the originals and of course fell in the water. I couldn't determine why it fell out except maybe the spring broke. As I said, the paddles work fine for their intended use, coastal ocean bays, no white water. Just wish they were manufactured a little better.

Great study paddle at a great price
I'm not a paddling expert, so this review is from a more casual perspective. The paddle is great, seems tough and durable. It comes with a carry bag with a drawstring to keep the 4 pieces on. And the included drip rings are pretty beefy. You can also adjust the angle to offset the two paddles. Very happy with it!

Good paddle for the price
This is my first paddle so I don't have anything to compare it to. Just got it as a testing paddle to see what I may need or want later one. The four pieces are nice. breaks down into small manageable size. Comes with a case which is a bonus. Seems pretty solid but have yet to use it. It definitely feels a little heavy which probably will be a factor with fatigue after a long day of paddling. I'm sure there is much lighter ones on the market. One of the buttons doesn't line up exactly on the hole on that connects the paddle, so it doesn't pop up completely but still feels locked enough.

Very nice and easy positive locking extension handle
Very nice and easy positive locking extension handle. It will go very tall if needed. One caution! The snap pin section can get jammed very badly if you twist when joining sections together or removing them. My strong suggestion is to file/grind/sand the edge circumference of the male end before ever snapping together. I saw this before joining but thought it would be okay. The edge is not rough but is sharp (hence it can catch on the slightest of imperfection or misalignment). After joining and disconnecting a couple of times, I learned the hard way. The sections fit together very snugly. I should have stopped while I was ahead and sanded and silicon sprayed the two sections. It would have saved a lot of aggravation when the edges bit into each other and jammed very badly. Remember, this is aluminum which always binds badly to itself with the slightest imperfection even through normal oxidation. Aluminum always needs to be kept clean and smooth especially in tight fits!

Great Paddle for Recreational Kayaking
Great paddle for kayaking. Perfect length for me (6ft) and my kayak (10ft) . Easy to assemble and disassemble for easy storage inside the kayak or back in the nice bag it came in. The drip stops on the kayak work well when used properly. My only complaint is that I wish the black rubber hand rests were softer/comfier, as it has created a blister on the in/side of my thumb. Other than that I fully recommend this kayak paddle for anyone who just needs one to do the job for recreational kayaking for a decent price :)

Quality materials, but loose joints.
I bought this paddle since I wanted to get familiar with kayak style paddling before investing in a more expensive product. I wanted to get a feel for factors like weight, paddle length, and blade area. I took the paddle out on some day trips, and found it to be satisfactory in use. The blades are sturdy, and of a good quality plastic. Blade area is about 95 square inches, which I found maybe a bit larger than necessary for leisure paddling on small lakes or rivers. The aluminum shaft is also sturdy - actually thicker than expected. It has a nice satin anodized finish, so the aluminum does not rub onto skin or fabric when in contact (unlike with some aluminum canoe paddles I have used). Rubber grips are comfortable, they do no rub off, and have not degraded in 2 years of ownership. Drip rings fit snugly and serve their purpose. The problem is that the tolerances are overly loose. The mid joint is not too bad, but the shaft to paddle joints are quite loose. About a quarter inch of deflection, if holding the shaft firmly, and wiggling the blade tip. If not for this issue, I probably would have given 5 stars.

Good paddle for a great price
The paddles work good . They would be a little heavy for a small child . For myself and 14 year old the weight is fine. For the price the quality is good . Even better than what we find in air local Canadian Tire fir half the price. The hand grips are good also .

Good bang for your buck
Bought for hubby (6.2) He likes them and they work great. The drip guards are no where near efficient, but for the price it’s the best value.
