Add on trays

I am trying to buy these trays here and there to expand my dehydrating capability. They fit perfectly and were priced well.

Not exactly like the originals that came with my FD-1040, hope they work anyway.

I bought these to add to my Nesco Gardenmaster Digital FD-1040. My Gardenmaster isn't very old, I've only had it a month or two. They are not exactly like the ones that came with my dehydrator. They are not exactly like the ones in the pictures on the product page. They are not exactly like the ones in the picture on the box they came in. The pictures on the product page, and the pictures on the box, look just like the ones that came with my dehydrator. There is a little disclaimer on the box that says something like "product may differ slightly from item shown". In the picture on the left, are the new add-a-trays. They have a tall center ring, with turret-like cutouts, unlike my original trays, which have a shorter, smooth center ring that you can see in the picture on the right. The original trays are "dished", (sort of like a bicycle wheel) giving them a subtle shape like a volcano. When they are stacked, the center rings fit together with no gaps. The new trays are flat, and therefore deeper in the center, so the center rings are taller. If you look down the center hole in the picture on the right, you can see the resulting gap between the center rings of the original tray on the top and the new trays on the bottom. If I stack the new, flat trays on the original trays, I lose about 1/3 of the drying space around the center of the original tray that is directly under the new tray, because the original is a subtle cone-shape, and the new tray is flat. The second picture shows one of the little hooks on the new tray. My original trays dont have these. I'm not a big fan of the hooks, I already hurt my hand with one while cleaning it prior to use. I hope these trays will work for me. I am afraid that the center rings having cutouts will change the airflow inside the machine, which the advertising said was specifically designed to be efficient, and eliminate the need for rotating trays. The new trays are also just a hair larger than the originals, but they seem to stack up together ok. I haven't been able to contact Nesco yet, to find out if there is another add-a-tray out there for the FD-1040, because they're closed on the weekend. I'm going to go ahead and try these, because I've got produce that isn't going to wait until I find out where to get trays like the originials (if they're even available anywhere).

Weak & Expensive

I would think that for $25 dollars they could manufacture two extra trays that don't seem like they will break during the first cleaning. These do not seem to be the same quality as the OEM trays.

Different than old

Different center post area than the older version. Will work just have to put the old on top of the new for a good seal.

What you see isn't what you get

The media could not be loaded. The trays I received were not the trays pictured on the box, and they were different from the ones that came with my Nesco Gardenmaster 1010 dehydrator. Yes, these trays "fit" on the dehydrator, but not well. When you stack these add-a-trays on the originals, they will stick together slightly (see video). Not a huge problem, but if you want to lift a tray with one hand, expect to need to use the other hand to unstick the two trays. Not a huge deal, but when you add sticky juice from fruit to the mix, you end up prying them apart, and it just disrupts my work flow to have to do so. The hooks on the bottom also make the trays harder to handle. I specifically didn't want this type of tray, because it is what came with my old Gardenmaster, and I didn't like the closely-spaced spokes because they were much harder to clean and fruit would stick and be very hard to scrape off. The box does say "Actual product may vary slightly from product shown", but this is not stated anywhere on this Amazon listing. The ones that came with my new dehydrator are what is pictured on the box. The ones I received had hooks on the bottom, more closely spaced spokes on the rack, and a high, crenelated middle ring. I contacted Nesco to ask if there was any way to get the same trays my dehydrator came with, and was told "We use 3 molds to make the trays and I cannot guarantee which ones will come in the box". And, regardless of my actual experience, "They do all fit together and work properly on the unit and yes it is really just a cosmetic difference." They also stated that the "feet" were needed for proper airflow, which made me wonder why the ones on my new dehydrator did not need them. Does that mean my new dehydrator does not have proper air flow? This question went unanswered by Nesco. An additional problem I noted: the trays had substantial overflow of plastic from the mold, especially at the center, but also in other areas (see photo). I think that overflow plastic covering much of the center area would interfere with air flow in the center area and result in poor drying. I am very disappointed that I won't get to add more trays to my dehydrator as I planned. I just don't want to use these poorly designed and made trays.

But they're not the same quality as the original garden master Trish seems like they have a little bit of a bow in them others in that to work fine

Excellent product in itself , problem I had was shipping . the product in shipping had been dropped , there was not a lot of soft packing material at the bottom pf the unit . When the unit was dropped it caused the metal fan part of the unit to push up which caused the warm air to escape along the seams , I fixed it myself and the unit worked correctly so far but better packaging is needed for the unit at the top and BOTTOM to stop this type of damage ! very happy with the performance of the product and I can add and add to it at a reasonable cost , we are large Veggie gardeners here and love Jerky and the Nesco unit preforms very well, we Need the 1000 watt power of this unit as it is always full and working I just added the review for the actual product they work in !!

These trays are not exactly like the trays I got with the dehydrator but they fit just fine and work really well. I also bought silicone mats to go on them and that keeps them from getting sticky stuff on them because all of these plastic trays are a bit flimsy - even the ones that come with the dehydrator.
