Super noisy
Purchased for wife unfortunately for me. this thing works according to my wife but after a month of listening to this noise I was ready to hide it so she couldn't use it but I didn't. She has only esed it that one time and my ears are really happy!

Results
I’ve only been through one cycle but the first results and the noise level is just as advertised.

Great for begginners
For beginners and casual rock tumblers this thing is super awesome. Perfect size and it doesn't make a ton of noise. I still covered it with a box/towel just to make it even less noticeable. My only issue is that the screw/metal top started to rust a bit but that's more of my fault.

My granddaughter loves this
My 10 year old granddaughter loves this National Geographic rock tumbler. Others in the house don't appear bothered by the noise that is generated from the constant running over a period of weeks as the rocks are polished. The kit contains packaged polishes for each stage, and directions our granddaughter has no problems following herself.

Works reasonably well
My first rock tumbler. Haven't seen or used one since I was in grade school - 60+ years ago. So as a retired STEM teacher I decided to look into geology, now that I have the time, which has always inerested me. (Took astronomy in college but never geology.) I ran my first rocks through the tumbler last month. Used the ones that came with it along with some I collected from the back yard and some I bought at the local "mart". Took a month to get the finished product. Came out reasonably well. Not quite as polished as the photos might suggest. (I used a little mineral oil to improve the sheen.) Not really disappointed, more inspired to try again. Tumbler ran well. Does make a little noise, so I ran it in the garage. You need a workbench anyway to clean and rub the tumbled rocks - a little messy. Requires some water, a plastic basin, a plastic squirt bottle and a soft brush to rince/clean the rocks. Follow the directions and don't rush the process. Some small, soft rocks may disappear during tumbling, simply erroded away. Rather than dump the used grit in your yard (certainly not down any drain) I filtered it through a coffee filter, can and screen sieve setup I made. The sediment can then be dried in the sun and discarded with the trash - recycled back to your local land fill. It will look like light grey plaster. The filtered "grey" water can then be used for limited irrigation in your garden around the edges. (I wouldn't put it around any plant roots. Maybe around bricks or tiles or other masonry. Or just pour it into a drying pan and let the water completely evaporate away?) Pour it down ant holes in the cracks of your driveway, possibly to discourage those pests? I had no issues with the tumbler. It worked fine. I'm ready to start my second run. Addendum: Have now made three 1+ lb runs. Rocks don't shine up very well following included instructions, some completely wore away, so I watched some posted videos. You apparently can get high quality results with this little "hobby" tumbler without the use of mineral oil or varnish or wetting the stones. Will try varying method next run. and probably partially rerun some stones I've already done. Watch some videos to get ideas and teach yourself. Lots of fun - try different things and try not to be too disappointed with first results. In retrospect, I should have spent ~50% more and bought a double barreled 3 + 3 lbd'er. (Like two NG "pro" tumblers). Seems to be what a lot of "rock hounds" prefer.

GREAT FOR APARTMENT!!!
I couldn't use my other tumblers as they were loud. Been researching and found this and it is perfect! Noise level greatly diminished and the timer settings are great!

Fantastic, not noisy!
I love that the barrel of this tumbler is made of hard rubber, it is so much quieter compared to my old plastic barrel one. Granted, it still does make some noise but it's not bad. I will say, the step 4 polish powder didn't polish at all, but the other 3 grits did fine, I put my rocks in for longer than suggested though because the recommended days wasn't enough for me. Purchased some other polish grit instead.

Decent little starter tumbler...If it keeps working for you
Got this for my 8 year old son for Christmas 2020. I myself had a very cheap rock tumbler as a child in the 80's, and enjoyed it until the cheap plastic barrel broke on that one back then. This NatGeo tumbler seemed of much better construction than the one I had as a child, with a RUBBER barrel instead of plastic, and a thumb-screw that holds the lid on. The rubber barrel is much quieter than the plastic, and the design is good for an easy leak-free seal. Even with quieter operation, we keep this in the basement as it would be quite annoying to have in the living portion of the house. So far, the performance of this tumbler has been very hit or miss. The supplied rocks are of a good quality, but the instructions provided are very rudimentary and you won't get good results with those instructions and the materials provided. The instructions are very nice looking and have nice pictures, but don't really give you the whole story. I know this is an instrument aimed at educating children as to the natural processes that produce smooth stones, but I feel that getting good results helps with that education. As supplied, your stones will not turn out shiny. Smooth, yes, but dull. The instructions tell you to rub them with a bit of mineral oil to get them to shine. Not only does that not work very well, it is also cheating in my opinion. You should be able to get shiny stones with the supplied materials. But, sadly, not with this kit. For good results, I needed to order some tumbler media, namely ceramic cylinders, to help cushion the stones from smashing into each other, and to aid in letting the grit/polish do its job. And then there is the "blinking lights of death" issue. This phenomenon presented itself about three weeks into our first tumble. After a few minutes of operation, the motor would shut itself off and all the red lights would flash rapidly. Unplug the unit for a minute or so, and it would resume operation, sometimes. At first I thought we had overloaded it, but being as how we had lost a lot of mass from the stones in the first few weeks, I knew this was not the case. Could it be temperature? It is kind of cool in the basement (50degF). But, no, it wasn't that either. Finally, it got to the point that the unit wouldn't turn on at all, just go into red blinky mode whenever the power was turned on. Outside the return window, I had only one option. Take the sucker apart and see if I could spot the problem. What ended up being the issue was the motor getting filled up with a very fine black powder. Not entirely sure what the powder is, but blowing it out of the motor with an air compressor got us back up and running. You could use the canned air they sell for computers if you don't have an air compressor. If you need to perform this, there are 4 screws on the bottom, hidden under the 4 corner rubber feet. Just peel the feet off and put them somewhere clean until you are done and they'll stick right back on after you return the screws. If you aren't handy at all, I'd stay away from this model. I don't see how anyone gets more than a month or two of performance out of it without having issues. The issue, for us, presented itself before we got even one batch of rocks tumbled. This could have been a real disappointment for my son and I had I not found a solution. THE GOOD: Rubber barrel for quiet(er) operation The barrel is easy to use and leak free Relatively inexpensive (get what you pay for) Has options to set # of days up to 7 Seems to be efficient when it is running THE BAD: Will require strange maintenance to keep running Instructions and supplies inadequate for good results Tumble speed is rather fast, and is not adjustable. Only enough rocks and grits for one tumble Good Luck fellow Amazonians!

Enjoying my new hobby
Works well. Is quite noisy in my little space but somewhat expected being a rock tumbler.

1lb machine is stronger then it seems.
I now have 3 1lb barrel machine rock tumblers and 1 3lb barrel machine. By far the 1lb machine is worth its weight, my 3lb machine has crewed 2 of my belts that came with my machines while my original 1lb machine is still on its og belt to this date. I also tried the 3lb barrel on my 1lb machine and it runs fine ( I DO NOT RECOMMEND YOU DO THIS USE YOUR MACHINE PROPERLY TO AVOID ANY DAMAGE ) while my 3lb machine is now a door stopper.

Tumbling ready to go
The media could not be loaded. Bought as a present the National Geographic Proffesional rock tumbler appeared to be the ideal gift and the rubber barrel appeared good value for money when compared with others. On opening the box it contains everything you would need to tumble, polish and shine the rocks, semi precious stones and crystals into beautiful objects. The process is made by NG's very easy to follow as 123 process and offers good results. Of the four tumbling processes we got to number 3 before we noted the rubber drive belt started to continually come off. On further investigation I could see a fine black dust where the tumbler was standing and identified the issue as poor quality large wheel that was very sharp and as such with every turn cut away at the drive belt until the side was flattened and would no longer stay in place and come off following a single turn. Not sure if this was the ???? in the basket but I could only see the spare replacement drive belt supplied may follow the same pattern of excelerated ware and decided to return the tumbler. As this product has increased in price since purchased I am now looking for a better quality replacement without all the extras. The NG Pro was a good all-rounder let down by some poor finish plastic component.

Buy this product and enjoy your hobby but do not pay three time more on Amazon.
Excellent product and 100% results producer but now a days this product buy on Amazon is totally foolish idea because very very expensive compared to original cost in USA. Dear buyers don't buy this product.

Works great
This works great! I’m very happy with it. The top grit doesn’t get the stones or gems polished to a wet look though.
