Very nice addition to flagpole
Got this for my mother-in-law's flagpole to replace a faded gold sphere. As others have noted, this is two cast peices spot welded together in several places around the body. Holding and inspecting it, you will notice some imperfections but once you put it 20 feet in the air you won't see these. If you plan to use this as an ornamental piece that will undergo close up inspection you may want to keep looking. However, if you plan to put it on a flag pole where it will be viewed from a distance, it will be great. I did follow the advice of other posters who suggested sealing the small openings that weren't welded with clear silicone. I don't know that it helps but it made me feel better that water wouldn't be able to collect inside and freeze or corrode. I also installed a flagpole light under this eagle which required removing the bottom half of the ball to allow clearance. The ball is two hemispheres glued together and easily separated.. I had to find a small 1/2" ID plastic spacer (I used a piece of sturdy tubing cut to the right length) to add between the bottom of the light and the locking bolt. (Not enough room for the light with the bottom half of the ball and too much room with the bottom half removed.) Installed for two months now and has been through some wind and rain and continues to proudly sit atop our flagpole.

Stunning and majestic Eagle - made in USA
18-Inch Gold Eagle is a Most excellent product!!! I purchased this Eagle about a month ago and I am VERY pleased with it. It is magnificent, and well crafted. I compared several Eagle flag pole ornaments before buying, both in person and online, and found this one "appeared" nicer. When I opened the box upon it's arrival, I was even more impressed. I was not exactly sure how the dimensions of the Eagle were calculated, when reviewing the Amazon posting. I was not sure if the 18-inches were from eagle wing tip to the base of it's foot (or fastener), or from the tip of one wing to the tip of the other wing, or exactly what was being measured. (I did send a recommendation that these dimensions be more accurately described in the listing). There are two issues you need to be aware of: First, you will get ONLY the Eagle - NOT the Eagle with a ball - as shown in the picture (which was disappointing for me). Second, check the size of the opening where the Eagle fastens to your flagpole. You may find, as I did, that the Eagle fastener (extension rod from Eagle to fasten to your flagpole) is smaller size than your flagpole. (To clarify, the fastener that is affixed to the Eagle may be 3/8" stock, and the threaded hole at the top of your flagpole is 1/2" - I am not sure of the exact sizes, but you need to make sure they are the same). If this is the case, you may need to go to ACE hardware (you can't get the special adapters you will need at Home Depot or Lowes) to make the connections work. This to me was very frustrating and I would like the manufacturer to offer choices in the size rod to affix the Eagle to the flagpole. You need to also know that you may not be able to affix the Eagle AND the round ball that comes with your flag, which was my case, and also disappointing, as I wanted to mount the Eagle just as shown in the picture in the Amazon listing. My flagpole is 20 foot, and the Eagle looks GREAT!!! Do 'splurge' and get THIS 18-inch Eagle. You will not be disappointed.

Very good topper for the flagpole
It's a good looking topper. The only issue I have is that it's not a perfect finish as the welds are not done and it's clear where the two halves are joined.

this a great flag topper
this is great other reviewers must be way to picky, when you consider this is 20 feet in the air, would recommend for sure

Good, but I was expecting much better for $50+ dollars.
I was pretty excited to get this but when it came I found ONE huge thing that really bothered me. The eagle is NOT a single piece of cast aluminum like the description implies. The eagle is made of two halves, seamed through the beak and down through the tail. There is a two inch braze/solder/ weld along the eagle's back and then underneath his body where the rod goes in. The rest of the seam is left wide open for water to enter and fill up the legs and/or the rod/ball. I know, it's aluminum, it won't rust, but aluminum corrodes, so it's the same difference. Water and metal do not mix. Are they pushing these thing out so fast they can't braze the entire seam? Did everyone else get the same thing and figure "I won't be able to see the gaping seam from the ground?" So I guess it's brazing and painting time if I want to keep this. The ball isn't solid either, but at least it appears as it does in the picture. UPDATE. SO... I posted something in the question section asking if your eagle was one piece or two and some got a one piece and some got a two piece. I also called Montague and they said "it comes ONLY PARTIALLY welded, always has, always will". .......HMMM The girl I spoke with knew EXACTLY what I was talking about as soon as I asked about the two halves, so I have to assume I'm not the first person to call. When I pressed her she transferred me to someone else who game me the same story. He also said it would be much too expensive to weld the whole thing. (I disagreed) Since I trust folks here to be able to tell whether or not their eagle is fully or only partially welded I'm guessing the company figured they could save a few bucks by only welding it at a small section on the top and on the bottom. I can't accept putting this on top of a flag pole open to collect water, so I'm going to seal it up and repaint it or just return it. BTW if you're a good TIG welder, live in the Muskegon MI area and work cheap, Montague Metals would probably love to talk to you.
