Not a bad buy

Just an initial impression

This will not be a serious review yet, just an initial impression until the season gets here and it can actually be put to use and then I will have to update it. The first thing I noticed was that these are made out of a soft rubbery material, not a hard plastic like the older versions so time will tell whether they permanently deform or not. I suspect they will be fine as long as they are not stored for long periods with a lot of stuff on top of them. Even the feet are soft rubber. That could be a good thing since I have broken the feet off of mojo's before so these look like they probably won't break and I probably will not have to be so careful to avoid breaking them. The feet also pivot in making them more packable as well. The battery holder and on/off switch are both easily accessible. I put some batteries in it just to see if it was as quiet as claimed and did indeed find it to be whisper quiet, though personally I have not had any problems in the past with Mojos or Lucky ducks scaring ducks away with noise. I dislike the big solid uncolored plastic area on the bottoms of both these and the new Lucky ducks, but it looks like at the angle the decoy is standing it probably won't be a problem unless the decoy was mounted extremely high which most people will not be doing. The wings look nice, though I suspect that will make no difference since the wings are supposed to be spinning. The paint looks fairly good. Comparing an old style mojo to these new elite series, the paint seems to be a little better but not by a large margin. It is possible the paint may chip less on the new soft material, but at this point only time will tell. The only thing I really dislike about this decoy so far is that the shaft screw which matches the notch on the wing connection on the mallard is inset so deeply into the body that even in the house sitting under a light I can barely see it to mount the wings and normally one would be setting these up in the dark in a hurry with cold hands. Why is this so annoying? Because the shaft on each side is flush with the decoy body and inset into the body so you cannot hold the shaft to keep it from turning when inserting the wings. That means you cannot do it by feel (if you have small hands). On the old style you could see the notch (you won't be able to see it on these without a headlight). On the old style even if you did not have a light you could just hold the shaft on the other side and rotate the wing until the notch dropped into place but you cannot do that with these because you cannot hold the shaft to keep it from turning when trying to rotate the wing until it drops into place. On the first wing you will have to line it up perfectly by sight with a headlight. If you have large hands that fit all the way around the body of the decoy, you can press your thumb down on the end of the shaft on the other side and sometimes get enough friction to hold the shaft in place well enough to get the first wing on. Once the first wing is on you can use that wing to hold the shaft in place and twist in the second wing until it drops in place. The elite teal does have the same problem the mallard has because the the screw for the notch is not inset so far into the body of the decoy and the shaft sticks out a little allowing fingers to get at least a 3/8" grip on the shaft. At this point I could not say how resistant the motor on these is to water. In the past, mojos I had that got dunked were good as permanently dead. My only other complaint is lack of a remote control option for the hen mallard and no access into the decoy body to be able to rig one up. .

Looks great good customer service

This product looks and works great. If it doesn’t work reach out to mojo their customer service is excellent and will fix you up. Mine just was grimed up with dirt and needed some WD-40. However there are some design flaws. Most noticeable is the battery pack. That thing is hard to remove especially with cold hands. Also hard to get batteries in and out of. However I noticed that one of them (they ship two) is much easier to remove than the other so just figure out if one fits better. Also be sure to put it in the right way. If you put it in backwards it is one pain to remove

All around review from an avid duck hunter

Ran for 7 hours with regular AA batteries. Bought some rechargeable ones so far I'm at hour10 and still going. In backyard wind isn't much a factor so that will be interesting. Morning started at 24 degrees w a high of 39. I give 4 stars as the extra battery pack insert is difficult to click in and extremely difficult to remove probably wont even try it out hunting. But the one that was in it to begin with clicks in and removes easily. Which is baffling honestly. Much lighter and the realism is drastically better than the hard plastic bodied baby mojos. Time will tell on the AA batteries though as I'm more on the hardcore duck hunting side and will be regularly hunting through January in temperatures in the negatives. I will post an update at the end of the 2019 season in Idaho.

Durable construction, long battery life.

Had late-season mallards come in and almost one on it. It’s durable and the battery lasts from before daylight until after lunch at least, that’s the longest I had it on continuous. Only thing I can deduct points on is the stake isn’t long enough for the water I’m hunting in, hence the stump in the picture. I just jammed it down into the rotten wood and that solved my problem for that spot.

Quality mojo

Quality mojo, just don’t forget to buy a remote add on or just buy the one that comes with the remote. You don’t need it but it can help if you are hunting ducks and geese.

Not waterproof

On the first hunt, the decoy topelled over on the provided pole (which is short). It submerged for a moment until I could wade back to right it. Worked for a bit and is now dead. Pending a response from Mojo on how to fix the decoy for this season. *Edit* the customer service representative from Mojo was excellent and was able to talk me through a teardown of the mechanism and got the spinner back up and running.
