Nice Bag - Not Very Big
I bought this bag for my son's 17.3" ASUS gaming laptop. It does not fit into the laptop compartment. I does fit into the main compartment of the bag outside of the laptop compartment. I believe that an average 17" laptop would fit, but snugly. That being said, I am returning this bag. However, this bag does seem to be very well made and is very good looking. It is very sleek. But it does not have room for much more than a laptop and accessories. A notebook or a 1.5" binder might fit in addition to a laptop and accessories, but that would be about it. The seller shipped this item very quickly and it was packaged very well. If you have a 17" or smaller laptop and don't have many other items that you want to carry with you, I would recommend this bag for you.

A good option for the urban dweller
Definitely good in an urban setting and the size makes it helpful to pack extra clothes for an overnight. No problems with airport security. Lots of protection for my Inspiron. Never had a problem. I've also used it as a day pack when hiking -- without the laptop. Not quite for that purpose but it did the job. The overflap helps keep everything dry in even heavy storms. Comfortable straps and the chest harness and hip belt make it very comfortable walking across town. It would be five stars but the two side pockets seem a little dinky. They stick out and reduce the stream lining a tad.

Not bad
I was very pleased with this backpack. I carried my 15" Dell laptop in it when I walked to work and back. However, once I upgraded to an Asus 17" ROG it no longer fit. Keep in mind that is a gaming laptop which is larger than the average 17" laptop. This should be fine for a typical machine. Build quality seemed fine, never had any other issues. Ample storage. Comfortable. My only slight complaint would be that it didn't breath well on the back. I always ended up with a sweaty lower back when I wore this.

Computer backpack
Pros: fits a 17.3 In computer perfectly as described. Two spots for memory devices and other spots for other things. Cons: As a full time student, it didn't hold enough items for my liking nor did it have as much space as I would like. Can only fit my 17.3 computer, wireless mouse, portable hard drive, and 3 books comfortably. Overall: it is an excellent backpack. It has slots for sd cards, miscellaneous cables and thumb drives. Pretty durable. It had enough space for an average person. Definitely a buy.

Awesome Pack
fits my oversized Dell L702X 17.3 monster in the padded laptop slot, perfectly. it's a compact design, but deceptively large inside. Love this backpack for the price. Sturdy zipper and material as well. Highly recommend. EDIT: The bottom fell apart too easily. Other than that good.

Great ! All Around Purpose!
Pros: Best backpack for a 17.3" Laptop! I use it to carry my books and personal items also! Cons: After 3 Years of use the right strap which is the one I use to pick the back up with then put on my back has began to rip and will break sometime soon. That is after 3 years of school abuse also. Around a year the front clip that goes on the backpack ended up breaking some how don't know how lol. Overall: It was a great investment and I still use it almost everyday during the year!

good looking bag
This bag is nice looking, but I used it only once and threading on the very front of the bag is starting to unravel other than that great bag, and even though its a big bag you can only fit slim items in the bag, not made for bulky items.

Good for me, maybe not for you.
Fits my 17'' laptop but the velcro strap cannot attach around it, it still feels secure though. With a laptop and the cable not a whole lot of space, I can fit maybe 2-3 notepads or a textbook and notepad. The little pockets inside are pretty handy for peripherals and small knick-knacks. One more layer of pocketing would have been nice, it's just the main bag and a tight outer pocket. Overall it fits my needs because I don't have a lot, but if you're really looking for a fully functional backpack, I'll bet there are better ones at this price. Edit: moved this up to 5 stars from 3 because I've had this for 3 years and it's still going strong. Zippers haven't broken, nothing is ripped, looks used but in nice enough condition. Now I have a 14'' laptop so it's perfect hehe.

Great backpack!
Good quality, well built and I got it very quickly too. The bag feels sturdy but strong. I can fit my Asus 17.3" N76V laptop in the pocket (with a sleeve I already owned). I can't pull the strap over the laptop (inside strap) but don't need to because it's a nice tight fit in the laptop pocket anyhow. Even though it's well build, it is also light. I would recommend this bag for someone looking for a good bag for a very good price.

Great bag but...
I love the bag. I fits everything that I need and it's comfortable. The only problem is that when I got it it was ripped at the top (a little) and the side bottle holder was torn a bit too.
