Great in eliminating string algae.

Well, this is different type of review. I've used this before and it does a terrific job with eliminating string algae. But unfortunately I ordered it as of today, 9 days ago and still no product. Most unfortunate. Still giving the product 5 stars, shipping gets a 0 stars. This company needs to address shipping issues.

Good stuff!

Been using for over three years now. Cuts the string algae within days. I dose the pond heavily in springtime, then just coast through the year. Now I am also using strong UV filter and a pretty good pond filter, but nothing really extensive. I dose it at about 10 times their recommended, glurg in about a quart or so at first. 1200 gallons, but way too many fish (koi/shibunkin mix). May try adding activated charcoal this year to take some of the brown color out, but for the most part the pond looks pretty clear. Fish are very active, growing well. Plants too. I've read the other reviews, particularly the ones that claim no success. I recommend you guys throw away the measuring cups and hit your pond hard once every spring.

Keeping green algae away!!!

Barley Straw it's one of the key elements when it comes to clearing a koi pond from micro algae (reduced sun exposure and low level of nitrates are two factors that you need to consider if you are having problems)... the extract works super fast, with visible results on the first couple of weeks and nice clear water after the whole 4 week period when combined with shade, weekly water changes of 10% at least (25% it's ideal but not always possible) and a reduction of the amount of food put on the pond. Again, as I mentioned at the start, Barley Straw helps but it's not a magical solution, factors like how many fishes you have on the pond, how much water the pond has, quality of filtration, maturity of bacteria on filters and pond itself, the kind of food and how much you feed daily, how much direct sunlight it get, water runoff after rains and how often you get rain, etc. Are factors that will affect how the pond behaves...

I know have clear pond water

In two weeks it eliminated the brown algae that prevented me from seeing my Koi. Now the pond is crystal clear.

Works for String Algae

I saw mixed reviews about this product but bought it anyway. It worked! The past five summers always brought thick ugly string algae to my water falls; but not this summer. I followed the directions (although I don't have an exact capacity for my water feature) and only had a little bit of surface algae on some of the rocks. The string algae never reared its ugly head this summer, and I am thrilled. This fall I was out of town and forgot to leave instructions with the house sitter, and some small clumps of algae were waiting for me after my 4 week absence. So yes, this stuff is doing something. I don't think it will eliminate all forms of algae, but at least my string algae was banished.

Not effective, expensive.

At the recommended dosages, the barley straw extract is not effective. I am putting it down to a very expensive experiment with minimal results. The pond algae continues to thrive despite two bales of barley straw and a programme of extract dosages. This pond is prone to greater algae growth as it has little cover from the sun and is constructed of concrete,

Great Product for the pond

It is good value when you buy the big jug then to buy the 16oz or 32 oz. It aged the pond water and make lower the PH and therefore make the environment less suitable for algae growth
