A Fish Keeper's work is never done, but API Products help.

I have used almost all of the API products since we started keeping koi almost a decade ago. All the API products can be used together, if you have multiple issues. You need to be sure you are treating your problem with the right product at the correct dosage. That is why API has a product for every type of problem and explicit instructions. We have expanded several times, and we now have a 10,000-gallon pond. In our system we have a pump, filter, UV light, 2 bottom drains, a skimmer, and a sediment tank. I take water quality measurements every week, and occasionally issues will arise, even though we have a great system. By now you might be thinking I have stock in the API company, and maybe I should. I only recommend their products because this is what I have found works over trial and error. First, be sure you have the correct product for the problem. I have actually used this product once before, and thought it didn’t work. The reason it didn’t seem to work is I was not using the correct product for the problem at that time (this was in my early days in keeping koi). I needed API Ecofix (see my review if you are having issues with Nitrates and sludge), not Simply Clear. There is a subtle difference between the 2 products, and deciding which is best can be confusing as the descriptions use some of the same words. I’m using Simply Clear to clump particles and reduce the phosphate in the pond. I know the pond has a phosphate problem from testing the water. Definitely test the water before you put in a product, so you know how drastic your problem is at that moment. Second, no matter what product you are using, be sure to have an accurate measure of how much water you have in your pond and follow instructions for the correct dosage. Most people make mistakes in dosage because they don't know the volume of water in their pond. There are websites that help you calculate your pond volume that are easy to use. Many people don’t realize how the smallest increment of wrong dosage will negatively impact the results and possibly their fish. Third, use the product for the correctly length of time. Most products for your pond, no matter your problem, are not one and done. Using some products for fish is like humans taking antibiotics…you might need to dose more than once and finish out the entire length of time for dosage. This product requires you to dose your pond twice a week for two weeks until you get to the maintenance dose. You are building up a colony of beneficial bacteria with this product. Hopefully, reading this review is helpful to you and your fish. Feel free to ask me questions.

Works great!

Added about half an ounce to our 20 gallon fish pond. Water was clear by the next day. Now we can see the fish and plants. Highly recommend this product.

The Dynamic Duo! Eco Fix and Simply Clear

The media could not be loaded. I’ll let the pictures and video do the most talking. Spring restart can always present water issues including debris and muck from the past season and into winter, and especially the biggest demon of all, String Algae. Finally, after many years of trial and error with different products.. I can tell you these are a must have! In about the span of a month, even with the Koi kicking up stuff from the bottom.. the water clarity went from barely able to see the fish, to what you see in the pictures and video now. Pond including waterfall is around 375 gallons +/- w/ a dual feed Tetra aerator that runs year round. I had no oxygenation issues nor did I see any behavioral change in the fish during any phase of use of either Eco Fox or Simply Clear.

It works! Cleared up my DIY pond

During the pandemic in 2020 I made a DIY outside container pond. It started producing algae, and became murky. Truly mucky and gross... I even bought a "sludge" remover made of natural barley and used it for a week. Instead of helping, it seemed to make it worse, and it killed 2 of my fish. I saw the reviews of this Simply Clear and gave it a shot. I followed the instructions and poured 60 ml into the pond, and this morning it was clear. Not crystal clear but a heck of a lot cleared than before. I may be a bit early in posting this review, but in 24 hours I see a significant difference.

I needed to enhance water clarity in one 2100-gallon pond another of around 300 gallons. I'd had a very bad experience with a different product from another company and lost all my baby fish, along with injuries to my adults (damage to their slime coating). But the water badly needed clarifying so I could see exactly what was in there. Simply Clear worked beautifully! There was no fish loss. I could see right to the bottom of the larger pond. The smaller one is in a shady area so it's always dark but the water flowing through my little aeration hose is clear too. I will use this again and buy more when it runs out.

Magic

Pond water was very green after the winter, tried barley pellets but did not seem to help after 3 weeks. Added the appropriate amount of API Simply for my small 250 gal pond, within 3 days is almost clear. Given the rate of change I expect it will be crystal clear in a week or so. Fish and plants seem fine after the treatment.

So far so good!

I put a capful of this in my bird bath every other day, the water is nice and clean with no build up. I dump out the water every other day to every day depending on what the birds are doing in it. The difference is before I was dumping the water with this product and I had to do a vinegar bath to clean out the algae that built up. With the product I haven't seen any build up yet.

Did not work

I bought this based on positive reviews but it did nothing. I have a wine barrel pond on the patio that was cloudy with a lot of plants. I followed the directions and nothing happened so then I increased the dose. Still nothing. I can't see the plant pots and the water is only 2 feet deep.

I was hopeful for this product to work but my pond is still very murky. Even after 2 applications of this product. I also have a pump circulating the water. Don’t buy this product.
