Does your 5yo want to be a magician? They can.

Simple tricks that can be learned by a young child. Tricky enough to fool an adult if performed well. I ran my son through the tricks a few times very carefully, taught him the little showmanship tricks to hide his work... and then he dazzled his mom (and not even the courtesy cheers, she really was amazed!). He was ecstatic.

Melissa & Doug products are always made out of sturdy materials and are made age appropriate and are easy to learn tricks and then preform them all on their own. Very happy with this purchase

Very basic

I did like this kit, but I found it VERY basic. I also would've liked it to come with a bag or box to store the items in when not in use. And some of the items were pretty cheaply made which is unusual for Melissa & Doug toys which I typically find have very good quality.

Pieced break - flimsy pieces

So far three of the five tricks have broken or fallen apart after just one or two uses. The four year old was very careful when using the magic kit and loved playing magic until everything seemed to fall apart. I bought him a hat to go with it but by the time the hat arrived, he couldn't use the tricks anymore.

Great Beginner Set

I do amateur magic for friends and family and my grandson was interested in being able to do tricks. I have purchased him three children's kits and the quality of the mterials are better in this kit by far. There is a simple optical illusion trick with rabbits. It is easy for a very young child to do without any skills but should be very obvious to an adult. The cardboard is heavy but can still be easily bent. I had to worrk with my grandson for the hand motion to "stretch" the card. The color changing hankies was wasy to change and conceal the gimmick in his smaller hands. The change to the large card makes a sound when the gimmick changes which I am working to eliminate but at a distance and talking during the change will conceal the sound. The disappearing box was difficult for him because his hands were too small but it worked fine for me. The only bad trick was the magic wand trick. It was cheaper and difficult for him to do because there are no stops and the white caps would pull off in his hands. Overall a good buy for a budding magician. Note: none of the props are examinable by an audience member because they can figure out the trick.

Overheard 1000000x at Christmas “This is just an ordinary rope”

I picked this for my son’s Christmas gift on a whim and it was by far the most favorite thing he received. I am seriously considering ordering the other sets in this series. The tricks are clever and cute, and much easier to operate than other sets i have seen. The rope trick is hilarious, most especially when the magician is six.

Seems great

I want to give this a more thorough review but my son lost interest in these activities in about five seconds. He is seven and loves everything to do with cars so we are trying to expand his mind. I thought he would like this more, he seemed to like it but wanted one of us to be his "assistant" every time and I was really hoping this would be something he would like to figure out himself and present to us. Oh well. Otherwise the toys seem sturdy enough, we will keep everything around for our next kid.
