About to purchase a 3rd one - surprised to see negative reviews
I have purchased 2 of these and have been happy with them. I purchased the first one in 2012 and another in early 2015. The first one's on the guest bed now and the later one is on our bed - it's close to 4 yrs old and still going strong. I am very surprised at the negative reviews. This mattress cover is well-made. The cotton fabric on top is tightly woven and soft and supple. The cover has generous sides and the material and elastic on the sides are sturdy - not that scratchy stuff that's on some mattress pads. What you may want to know before purchasing is that although this has some filling in it, it is not designed to be a mattress "topper." It's not super puffy - it's filled with cotton batting not polyester fiberfill. It's probably about 1/2 thick when new. So it doesn't have a lot of "sink-in" feeling (it's batting, not cotton balls - think of a nice old cotton quilt), but it does add breathable softness that's a bit springy and also supportive. It does flatten somewhat with use. I have not had the problems others describe with the filling wadding up after washing. Maybe they used a top loading washer? I have washed mine numerous times using my residential front-loading washer and dryer. I use hot water and the regular cycle although the manufacturer doesn't recommend that. I use the sensor dry function on medium low heat and take it out after one cycle. It's still damp in places, I just hang it over the railing to finish drying. The top may have shrunk a little bit over multiple washes (maybe because I use hot water); the top of the pad is about 1/2" away from the edges of the bed on each side now, but it doesn't affect the overall fit or comfort - we don't sleep 1/2" from the edge of the bed. I originally bought this to help with an uncomfortably hot Tempurpedic mattress - I can say it helped somewhat but not enough in the summer, so after 12 years we're giving up on the memory foam and just bought a new mattress. I'm buying another of these mattress pads for the new mattress - maybe a little extravagant since the mattress pad we have is fine, but I want to start with a fresh one on the new mattress. The price has increased about $10 since the last time I bought one so I checked around to see if I could do better. I found some that were organic and 2-3x as expensive, and one that is about $20 less but reviews complain about scratchy cotton on top and poor construction. I've been happy with this brand for 6 years so I'm going to stick with it. I'm going to recycle the old one for pet beds so everyone in our home will be sleeping on a cozy 100% cotton mattress cover! :)

Nice mattress pad, but caution with washing
I really like this mattress pad. It's nice and thick. However, prior to using it I washed it being quite careful given other reviews (cold water normal cycle). The cotton batting did clump up within the quilted squares making it overall quite lumpy. I do have a top-loading washer so I don't know if it's less of a problem with front-loading washers, but it's not acceptable for a product to lump up like this unless you intend to dry clean it only.

better than a poly cover, but needs to be a little longer
as with most twin bed pads, you need to order a twin xl to fit the stupid bed. it would be good to actually increase the size of the twin beds to 77 inches rather than 75, which no one wants. xl is 79 inches long i think which is fine though. I have to constantly adjust this pad to fit the bed. fortunately i just bought a latex mattress topper which i will put on top of this pad, encased in a cotton duvet and then my bedsheeps on top of that. another wierd thing about this pad is i like it to be inside out on my bed because it is softer. the intended side is too firm for me, kinda feels like sleeping on crinkly plastic to some degree. i need this kind of pad to keep me from sweating at night.

Mixed feelings about this mattress pad
We initially loved this mattress pad. It is natural cotton and fit our queen really well. After 3 washes (explicitly following the directions) we ended up with a bulge of stuffing in the middle of the mattress pad and a tear where the pad meets the siding. This was disappointing enough but even more so given the price. We were able to fix the pad and are still using it. We prefer it to the synthetic mattress pads that dominate the market but were disappointed with the early repairs we had to make.

So far so good
We haven't used it for more than 1 week but it made our bed immediately more soft. It seems to be well made, not a cheap Wal-Mart mattress pad that smells and falls apart with a tug or two. I will heed the advice of others and avoid machine washing it. The quality and fact that it is contains higher amounts of cotton than most other pads makes the hassle of going to a dry cleaner worthwhile.

good but can NOT machine wash
Good product but can NOT machine wash Received new-good. On the 10th day, my 4 years old climeb onto my bed in the middle of night...in the morning I found he had an accident so I have to wash this Used the gently cycle on my washing machine ... came out ruined! For this $ amound, I only got to use for 10 days. Unless you plan to hand wash it, do Not put it into washing machine

Not sure this is actually 100% cotton?!
There is something in it (almost like poster board?!) that makes it very stiff and gives it a sort of loud crinkly noise when you move it (or move around on it!). Very annoying. It gets two stars instead of one because it DID have a small effect on reducing the heat of my foam mattress. Just not enough benefit to make it worth putting up with the noise. Also, it did not grip the mattress as well as I would like, I'd have to pull it and straighten it out each morning. Needs more elastic in the skirt to give it more hold. Returning.

Comfy
This is a nice addition to soften out the top of your mattress. I read a couple of reviews that said it gets bunch when washed, so I haven't done that yet. It makes my bed comfier, though, which is what matters to me. I also like that it is 100% cotton.
