Sizing is weird

After reading reviews, we decided to go with a medium because our sons legs measured at 13". Medium is supposed to be 12"-16", and others were saying when they got the small, they couldn't pull them up. The Medium on a 13" leg is too big. They were constantly falling down while he was wrestling. If we stick with wrestling, we will buy the small next time. Overall, they are a good price for 2 knee pads. I accidentally ordered an addidas knee pad, not realizing I missed the fact that it only came with 1!

Great Quality and Protection

I bought these for my 12 year old son that seemed to be taking a beating every basketball game. He’s been injury free since putting them on and he’s less fearful of diving for loose balls, engaging in tie up situations, and being aggressive on both ends of the court. The honey comb pattern assists a great deal where full mobility and protection is concerned. I was very impressed as it molded to his knee cap. He tested falling to the ground many times and said he couldn’t feel anything. I would NOT suggest falling on concrete as this would come with a higher risk of tearing any fabric (certainly this fabric as well). Indoor court use should give you many seasons of use without replacement.

Kida disappointed

First time using, went in for a dive (volleyball) and slid. Tore up part of the material, exposing the hex foam padding on the knee. Now I've gotta stitch it up and hope it stays throughout the next games/practices.

My husband loves them!

I got this for my other half as a Christmas present. He's a diesel mechanic and has to crawl under trucks and is on his knees often. This was really starting to bother his knees along with his tendonitis and arthritis. He loves these and wears them every night! The tag and cloth inside was a bit itchy so he puts them over some long John style pants. Definitely recommend if you can figure out what to wear/put under them to avoid the itching.

Work as expected

MY previous sleeves slipped when doing exercises and I constantly had to adjust while working out. These fit very tight and will feel at 1st like they're to small. After the 2nd or 3rd use I realized this is how it was supposed to feel and it didn't move while working out. Furthermore, when doing lunges, the cushion on my knees was a welcomed change and it was nice having protection on my knees. The cushion did slightly modify the way I do RDL's, as I hit the cushion unintentionally on a couple reps but it wasn't a big deal.

Some of the best kneepads for many sports - BUT - sizing is way off. Read!

These are almost the perfect combination of comfort and protection. I've used these for dodgeball and softball (under my baseball pants) and they protect my knees from scrapes. They are not hard like Asics slider kneepads which are hard to dive on - hard padding makes me reluctant to get down on my knees or slide. One thing you have to know is that sizing labels are way off - particularly for me. I measured my knee at a 14" circumference and currently wear an XL pair... three sizes up from McDavid's recommendation. I don't want them too tight (mine are a little loose) which will probably differ from your needs. I would suggest going AT LEAST a size up. I'm 5'9 and 140 lbs and have been told I have skinny legs... and I found size large to be too tight. Even if you need compression, order at least one size up otherwise it will be too tight. I knocked off one star because both of my pairs got a hole from diving on the gym floor too much. If you're playing basketball, I doubt you'll create that much wear in a short span. Even though I'm rough on my kneepads, they're still worth buying. I've tried the Nike ones and they are actually pretty good. But I'll stick with what works for me! These went through one wash pretty well and keep their shape through washing and wearing. The red McDavid logo on my pair wore out but that doesn't matter to me. I am rough on my knees in dodgeball and put a few holes in these but I wouldn't want anything harder, otherwise I'd be reluctant to drop to my knees. Bottom line: I recommend that you go up AT LEAST one size; I recommend two-three sizes up if you want something comfortable. I'd rather pull them up every once in a while than have them choke my legs. Even though they slide down a little for me, which is not a big deal, they will never go below my knees because of their compression so I have nothing to worry about.

These have saved my daughters knees on the court!!

These have saved my daughters knees. She plays competitive high level (for her age group) basketball and these have saved her knees!! She has always been able to get gritty on the court and not care about banging herself up but since getting her these McDavids, she has zero fear!! They fit tight at first, almost too tight but they’re a compression legging but my daughter says they’re comfortable after wearing them for a bit. In fact, several of her team mates have gotten them since she did. Game changer!! Can’t recommend highly enough!!

Good product

I liked that the product arrived on time and ordering was easy. Price wasnt too bad either. Cheaper than in most stores. Very comfortable to wear. Just found the material a little thin as it snagged and started to run.

We'll see what happens next

Pros: Arrived quickly. Definitely order one size larger than what you'd expect. My daughter (5'11") is wearing size medium. Look great. Stay up well (we have no experience with the shorter size, but these stay put when running). Cons: The second game my daughter played with these she got knocked down while dribbling up the court and tore the knee pads (one of the cells got ripped out). Overall: We'll see what happens next. We're going to try to return them and get them replaced. I'll update my review when I see how well the customer service works. While they definitely prevented my daughter from, at the least, some really badly skinned knees and, at the most, prevented a much more serious injury, it's pretty hard to justify paying an average of $22.50 per game to protect her knees ($45/2 games), despite how much I love her. Original rating: 2 stars Updated rating: 5 stars UPDATE: They replaces the sleeves quickly, free of charge, and with no hassles so I’ve updated my review. My daughter has used the new pair for more than a year (60+ games) and there is only one small tear in one of them, and that’s after hitting/being knocked to the floor countless times. They’ve definitely protected her knees from some serious direct-impact injuries (but please note that these don’t provide stability to prevent twisting/hyperextending injuries). Definitely worth the money!

Well worth the money!

Two years ago I purchased McDavid knee pads for my granddaughter at a local sport store. After a successful year of basketball and going into the second year she lost one pad at a tournament. I ended up having to buy another pair. I first searched online and found the MacDavid knee pads at half the cost that I first paid at the sport store. I then went back to the sport store and compared the item number and they were exactly the same as online. I was thrilled I was able to get these pads at 50% less. The fist pair had lasted a whole basketball season without any wear and tear (she does not fall a lot) Having these knee pads gives my granddaughter the confidence that if she should fall they will help spare her knees, and she can play a bit more aggressively. Very pleased with my purchase and have recommended them to other parents to purchase for their children to help save the knees and some do need the elbow pads as well.
