Body Rite where have you been all my life!
This thing works for me. By far the best 30 bucks I have spent on a product in a long time. Since a child and young adult all I would hear is "sit up" and "stand up straight." "If you don't you will pay later." Well since my 40's (now late 40's) I have been paying the price...dealing with upper back pain/stiffness from what I suspect has been years of poor posture. The aching made things like sitting at a computer/desk for long periods or driving long distances a bit of a drag. I admit my posture was poor, for example my shoulders always rolled forward and I was always hunched over. Well not anymore since wearing the Body Rite. (sounds like I writing and infomercial for Body Rite or something right?....BUT WAIT!!!!...lol). Seriously, this gadget seems to be working miracles for me. Yes, some complain about the straps bothering them, but for me this is minor and if you wear it over a shirt it is not to bad. Since wearing it, I find myself not having to grab the Tylenol or Aleve as much as I did in the past (which never seem to help much any way). This product has also motivated me to do exercises that strengthen my upper back and stretch my chest muscles to ease the strain on my back and also do some ab work as well. I am not 100% free of upper back stiffness, but we are talking years of bad posture. I even found away to strap on 5 more pounds of weight to see how it goes. Rome was not built in a day, but none the less I feel I am on my way to defeating years of upper back stiffness with the help of this product. All an all I guess I could the same results by wearing a back pack with some weights, but hey this thing is MADE IN THE USA, can be worn under your clothing, does not seem made of cheap materials that will not hold up over time and the cost is reasonable. My back (and liver) thanks you Body Rite!

Used My Weight Vest to Yield Similar Results
I've tried a couple other posture braces, and the principle behind this one is very different. With the others, you wrap the straps across your shoulders/chest and the tautness of the straps are supposed to prevent you from slouching too much. Basically, with the others, you are being strapped into good posture. This one relies on weights to provide a counterbalance. So you slouch forward--the weights on the back are supposed to counter balance that positioning so that it pulls you back into a more upright posture. This one works better than the other strap-type braces, particularly because it's not as uncomfortable, depending on how you wear it. In the photo, the weight is positioned in the lumbar region, and I didn't find that uncomfortable at all, as far as the straps digging into me. However, that positioning didn't provide enough counterbalance for me so I had to decrease the length of the straps so the weight was closer to my shoulder blades. At that point, the straps did begin to dig into my armpits (I'm 107 lbs, 5' 1".). After a few hours, I would get used to the pain so it didn't bother me too much. But my armpits would be tender, even when I stopped wearing the brace. I actually ended up returning this because I realized I could just readjust the weights in my weight vest and it would yield the same results without that underarm discomfort. Do note this product consists of a minimum 2-lb weight. If you have other ailments which extra weight may aggravate, this may not be the right product for you.

Useful in More than One Way
I bought this item as a suggestion from my sister who is a painter and spends time standing with her arms out in front of her. I wanted to see if the Body Rite would help me with shoulder and back fatigue as I am an avid sewer and spend decent amounts of time in front of the sewing machine. I am 5'7" and the straps are the perfect length for me. I have had the Body Rite for a week and have been wearing it also when I am at the computer. Here are my first impressions: I love the fact that the shoulder straps are stretchy, they are made of the same material as old fashioned suspenders and are adjustable. The short strap that clips in between the wider shoulder straps is also stretchy but not adjustable. The shoulder straps are not bulky and can be worn out and about esp. if you will not be sitting down as the back weight might impeded that. Unfortunately, the straps are flat (not padded or cushy) and therefore can cut into the skin and rub if you are wearing a sleeveless shirt. The main weight is attached to the body of the strap and the little weight basically "Velcros" itself to the main weight for added support. I think it is useful, I am happy with my purchase and will update my review as I use the Body Rite for longer periods of time. **A useful note: My son who has some proprioceptive issues loves to wear this weight around the house.
