Good for what I bought it for, but I'll also keep my manual grinder
I needed a pepper grinder because I like to make soup in large batches, so I often need hundreds of cranks on my manual grinder at a time. This grinder mechanism is pretty good. It has an adjustable grain size and grinds at a respectable rate. The granule container doesn't hold that much pepper - the clear plastic part visible in the pictures is all there is, no hidden section. That means it needs to be refilled fairly frequently. As far as I can tell, this is common to most electric pepper grinders. The button to start the grinding (the silver dot on the side, not the top as I had assumed) has a hair trigger - I actually thought mine was defective when I got it because I thought it was grinding without me pressing anything, but the lightest touch is enough to start it, which can be annoying when you're moving it around because you can end up getting pepper on the floor. The light on the bottom is actually very handy - when you start grinding, a bright LED shines on where the pepper is being ground, so you can see the amount of pepper already ground, but you can also see the granules as they fall, so you can judge granule size and the rate at which it's grinding quite easily. Mine also ran out of batteries surprisingly quickly - I bought it a month ago and had to change its batteries a couple of days ago. It's possible that the problem was the batteries, but considering that it takes for AA's, I feel that it should have lasted last longer. Physically, I think it looks quite nice and it fits well in my kitchen. On the whole, it's very convenient when I have to grind lots of pepper at once, but I think I'll keep a manual grinder on hand as well, since they hold more pepper and can't run out of batteries. If you do a lot of cooking with pepper, this is probably a worthwhile investment.

Works great but two nits need picking
First off, the unit I received today works great and I'm happy with it. Good value. Two nits to pick: First: The design is "stylish" Boo and Hiss! That means tiny markings which are black on black. My eyes aren't those of a young person. The first time I disassembled & reassembled I had to do so under an extremely bright desk lamp in order to make out the alignment marks and coarseness indicators. Also BTW I had a really difficult time reassembling the unit after filling with peppercorns. The instructions would lead me to believe that the peppercorn chamber should "lock" to the motor/battery unit. It was impossible to push the two together again and get a lock. After trial and error I discovered that those two units do not lock. You have to leave the battery/motor unit sitting loosely on top of the peppercorn bin. Then place the "outer case" over the battery/motor unit and magically everything locks in place quite well. This is only a nuisance for the first use; after discovering the magic trick it's easy. Nit Number 2: I wish these manufacturers would just place PDF's of their instructions on a web site and print a URL on the packaging -or better yet on the unit itself. Trying to keep track of single page printed instruction sheets for the hundreds of small items you buy is silly. Since you rarely need these pages after the initial purchase it's usually just not worth filing or scanning. But it's extremely easy to dump PDF's or links into a folder on a computer and run a search if you ever need to refer to any of these instructions in the future. I went to their website which was very pretty but a waste of pixels in terms of useful information. Wow; I wouldn't have thought there was this much to say about a simple little pepper grinder.

Better Than Expected
I wish I hadn't read the reviews before I ordered this because I was expecting a cheap and barely adequate grinder that was hard to take apart and put back together. I ordered it for it's low price. What I received was a grinder that was of apparent high quality (though plastic) with a good feel and logically placed power button. My first order of business was to put in batteries and fill the pepper corn chamber. I went about this with intrepidation because of reading about trouble others had in accomplishing this task. I refused to read the instructions just for the adventure of it. Well as expected I too had trouble but not for the reason of complexity or illogical design, it was because it was completely logical and too simple! It turned out to be incredibly easy, all that is involved is a short and simple twist of the top half from the bottom half. There is an indicating arrow that aligns with a lock icon and an unlock icon. The only fault I can find is that the unlock icon is too small to discern (they both look the same) but is really a non-issue because the design follows the standard "lefty loosy, righty tighty" protocol. In use the motor labors just as others have said but the pepper flows abundantly and with satisfaction. The sound of the laboring motor is the sound of money saved. If they had used expensive components, I may never have purchased this. If this pepper grinder holds up I will gladly give it 5 stars. If it holds up and the company decides to use rare earth magnets and lithium ion batteries I may even break out the big bucks for the new one...

Absolutely Fantastic
This grinder is so easy to use. I have sore hands and the button on the side has a gentle touch to it. Perfect. I adjusted the coarseness and it works perfectly on each setting. I used it for the first time today and loved the fact it has a light that shines on the food. I highly recommend this. I may buy another one. It is definitely quality!

Very good electric pepper mill ????
Good quality pepper grinder. A bit noisy but it gets the job done. + Adjustable mill distance (to adjust ground pepper size) + Steel mill (so no plastic ends up on your dinner plate) + Battery operated - Quite noisy - Button is positioned so most people will hit it when they grab it (until they learn how to pick it up without hitting it.) Would have been nice if they had the plastic frame around the button slightly extended, or the button recessed, to reduce the chances of hitting the button when one picks it up.

Fairly easy to fill
works very well as a pepper grinder. Fairly easy to fill. I'm not fond of the design of the handle. It is ergonomic and comfortable to hold but I seem to grab it and always hit the silver button that grinds the pepper, sending pepper into your cupboard, on your counter, or places you don't really want it. I have no idea why you would want the thing to light up but it does. It's also easy to change the kind of grind, way better than the last one I used.

Excellent item. Very useful indeed. It works flawlessly. Using for about six months now and found it quite user friendly.
