Light and compact

I haven't had a chance to use this shovel yet (Thank God!), but it appears to be well constructed for shoveling snow. As for dirt and thick mud, the jury is still out. I keep it in the car as an emergency shovel only, so, hopefully, I'll never have to find out how it performs.

Just what I wanted (and needed)

I bought this for bike or walking trips around the neighborhood, mainly to clear paths blocked by plowed snow; I wanted something that would fit in a backpack. It does, and I have used it for that, but I've discovered it's also good for clearing small spaces, like around the fire hydrant in front of the house. It fits even in my child-size backpack that I use just for walking (I have a bigger backpack for shopping trips on the bike) and it's not heavy. And the size keeps me from trying to lift too much of this heavy Eastern snow so it's better for my back. It comes in two pieces, shovel and the other part, but you can also separate the other part into another two for a total of three pieces if you really need to save space. The length of the tube is slightly adjustable with push buttons and here's a TIP to deal with those: Push them in and then quickly turn them sideways. That will keep the buttons depressed while you move the pieces to the hole you want them in. Then you just turn the piece sideways until you see the buttons through the hole; once they're in position they'll pop into place. I had a bit of trouble getting them adjusted at first until I discovered this so I thought I'd save people some time by passing that along. The tip is getting a bit worn; I can see a bit of metal now. That's probably my fault for trying to shovel ice but the shovel seems so sturdy that I think it'll be fine (as long as I stop trying to shovel ice).

Perfect for My Teenaged Son's Emergency Kit in His Car! (And Here's What Else I Put in There for Him)

My son recently got his first car, and so I wanted to be sure that he had everything that he might need in an emergency situation, including a car emergency kit, Fix a Flat, mylar blankets, a car hammer, a first aid kit, and...this shovel! Because we live in Colorado, I wanted to be sure that he had a shovel (snow!) in the car, and this one is just perfect! It has every feature that I wanted for my son: - It's metal (not plastic which can crack and break) - It's lightweight - It's small, but not *too* small - It has a decent-sized shovel head (pan? tip? Better than expected!

Nice breakdown shovel

Arrived a day or two late but we’ve been pounded with rain and snow lately. It seems smaller than I anticipated, so pay attention to the measurements in the description. Bought it for my semi truck after being snowed in for a week in South Dakota. Could have used it then. It will be easy to take apart and stow away. Happy with my purchase

Decent Light-weight, portable, pretty utility shovel.

I bought this to keep in my car and use it in winter time. Now that I have gone through two winter season with it, I think I have pretty good insight of what this thing can do. First of all, buyers must understand that what this thing is all about. It's all about being lightweight and portable. This should only be used as emergency tool when you don't have proper tools. This winter, NY was hit by wet snow and it quickly turned into ice. Unfortunately, I only had this shovel in my car.. so I used it to break through those thick ices and it snapped in half. BUT I am still giving this item 4-star rating because that is more of my fault. This shovel is made out of aluminum and it clearly says in the item name. While they are light, they aren't made to pick through ices. This shovel will have no problem digging through snows. Just understand that it will not move huge amount of snow at a time. For serious ice digging, this is not going to cut it. keep this in your car as emergency tool and use proper tool when the situation calls for it. Now the real reason, why I have deducted 1 star is more due to the fact that there are some areas where it could use some improvement. First of all, the entire body of the shovel is made out of aluminum and there is no grab provided for the fore-hand. It means, if you don't have a pair of gloves, Good luck not getting a frostbite. because it's like holding onto a block of ice. Secondly, while it does retract and expend.. the range is too small. Lastly, the handle is really uncomfortable but this is somewhat understandable as they wanted to make it as portable as possible. But D-Shape handle would have been really nice. but I might be asking for luxury at this point.

Highly recommended product for Quebec icy winters

Amazing for Quebec icy winters. Has help myself and friend dig their cats out of ice on the street from the snow plow. Also used to shovel out car from fluffy snow. Great for digging out a spot to park your car. Extremely sturdy and collapsible. Have had this for 5 years and it’s still like new! Amazing product. Recommend to all my friends.

Very practical

Gave this to the (very mature for his age) kid I babysit. The perfect size for him! It’s heavy for the 3 year old. But he is getting better and stronger every time it snows! He does my walk way and all the side walk by the street. He loves that the shovel is blue. And he loves waving at the cars that go zooming by. its adorable to watch him from the window! And nice that the handle is adjustable!

Great Winter Accessory For Your Car

The Lifeline Shovel is a great winter addition to your car. As soon as the package arrived, I put the shovel together and put it in my car's trunk. It was a bit of luck, that it arrived when it did, because my car got stuck in the snow a few days later. With the help of this shovel, I was quickly un-stuck and on the road again. The shovel is compact and light weight, making it easy to use and store. The aluminum edge cuts through any type of snow quickly. The only thing to keep in mind, is the shovel's size. Since it's compact, it would not be great at shoveling out an entire driveway, since it would take so long. But, for shoveling your step or around your tires, it's great!

Bought 2 of these for our sleds, very sturdy and easily folds into it self or comes apart for compact storage on machine. Used on three occasions when got stuck and makes life a lot easier than kicking and stomping snow with your feet.

Great little shovel for the price
