Worth every penny if it lasts. (Its lasting....)
I just installed this pump but it is as many many others have commented very quiet and I have 5ft of lift and had no problems emptying the sump pit in less than 30 seconds! It has rained here the past 2 days straight and I had to go check to make sure it was pumping because I could not here it from more than 10 feet away! I chose this model over the 257 because it is going to be dry during the summer months where I am at and I was concerned with the cast iron housing. As for longevity I can't speak on that but if it last even 5 years it will be worth the extra $30 over the cheap big box store pumps. UPDATE: It has been over a year now and boy am I thankful for this pump. We were in the line of flooding last summer and then again in December. To give you an idea they opened the Dam wide open by me 3 times last year! In the past 60 years they had only opened it 9 times like that! One day we got 9 inches of rain! This pump has been amazing! It did move itself and got stuck on at one point when I went down to check on it, it was hot but shut itself down. As soon as I added some water it kicked right back on. UPDATE: June 2016 Another year another record flood. So this pump has been tested again this spring as we received 12 inches of rain in two day! We lost power for about 3 hours and I opened up my crawl space to find 4-5 inches of water in 3 hours. When the power came back on it ran for 6 hours straight to drain all the water out and it didn't blink an eye. I even attached a 50 foot drain hose to get the water further away from my house and it wasn't an issue!! I'm so happy to have bought this pump look forward to many more years of great service from it! UPDATE: August 2017 another rainy spring and no issues! It has been 2 1/2 years and the pump is still running great! I can't say enough how happy I am with this pump. In fact, I'm ordering another one for my rental property in Wisconsin. It has been very well tested in my home over the past 2 1/2 years in Missouri! From bone dry for months during summer to nonstop rain and flooding in the winter and spring. I've never had an issue! In my humble opinion, Liberty pumps are as good as they get!

Excellent pump. Made in USA. It is extremely quiet
I had bought a 257 cast iron pump a few weeks ago. I was very satisfied with it. A friend asked me to help install a sump pump and I bought the 237 accidentally. I didn't realize that these two were different. This 237 is aluminum - obviously won't rust. I don't know whether its is better or not than the cast iron 257. Both pumps are extremely quiet and seems to work the same. I did research sump pumps. Local stores didn't have too many options for a pump, made in usa. There was one other pump, made in usa - which is sold as wayne, campbell, rigid brand names but several people complained about the failure of its switch. It's "genius switch" failed but I read a press release from its ceo that their new "iswitch" is rated for 1 million cycles but... How are we supposed to know which switch is being used on the pump we buy? That's why I decided to buy liberty pumps. No one seems to complain about this liberty brand. This is an extremely quiet pump. Even within 5 feet, you won't hear the pump running. Also, I have a suggestion for installation. 1. You need not drill a 1/8 inch pilot hole - as suggested in instructions. Pilot hole causes splashing. Both pumps are working fine, without this hole. These pumps have a built in bleeder hole system to avoid air lock. 2. Buy a 9" rubber coupling. This is 9" long has actually comes in a way that it would work for both 1.5" and 1.25" diameters. It was available only at ACE and not at Menards or HOme Depot. This makes the installation easier. Its has not been easy to get a perfect fit, with new install. You might as well change the valve - if it is really old (I bought Zoeller). If you put a new valve, the lengths change. Its a pain to cut the correct length. Therefore just cut the pipes to be within about 3" fitting and use the 9" coupling. Remember to use faucet grease on the inside of the 9" coupling and the outside of the pvc pipes - so that they slide in and out easily. But don't use faucet grease for fitting of the zoeller valve (it makes the couplings pop out when you tighten). Of course, you should use the grease on all threads - in the pump and onto your pvc threaded coupling.

Love this pump, buy it.
After using several plastic pumps that I bought at the Big Box Stores (Home Depot & Canadian Tire) I was pretty frustrated. Both of those pumps failed in less than a year. Luckily I returned them under warranty and got my money back. After doing a LOT of research, I chose a Liberty pump...based on the excellent reviews it received. It has been in use for over 1 year, with NO PROBLEMS. Amazon shipping was quick (which was very good, as the water was rising in the basement). The pump is solidly built, not much plastic...and runs whisper quiet. What little sound it makes is muffled by a notched piece of Styrofoam covering the sump pit. So far, great product, highly recommend it....and its only slightly more expensive than the cheap plastic junk in the stores.

Quiet and just plain works!
This is the quietest sump pump I have ever had the displeasure of installing. The pump is great...the fact that I needed to install it is the displeasure part...lol. Very high quality and about the same price as the box store 'growling nightmare' that I had to purchase initially to abate a flood. I also purchased an AY McDonald 4420-465 2069 1 1/2 Silent Sump Check Valve and a 1 1/2" ABS to 1 1/2" threaded adapter for ABS pipe attachment to the pump itself as it comes shipped with female 1 1/2" threads .... this combination of pump and silent valve leaves sump pumping noise as a thing of the past. My sump is directly under my sun room seating in my low crawl space and I really did not want to hear it at all while sitting and enjoying my morning coffee. Did the trick...virtually silent.

Neat little pump
The packaging used to protect the pump during shipment was impressive. The pump itself is even more so. Fits neatly into a 15 inch square drainage sump. Very quiet when operating. An economical solution to a house perimeter drain problem. Although sized to deal with the rainy season, has been reliably pumping ground water that gravitates from several uphill properties. Will reserve the fifth star for its annual maintenance checkup.

High quality pump. This thing is super quiet and the best investment I made for my sump pump pit. It was small enough to allow me to install a back up pump in the small pit as well. The quietness and quality alone has made me never buy a cheaper box store pump again.
