Very good brain model which can be a little tricky to fit together at times.
I am very fortunate to be the father of a little gifted boy who loves to ask questions; From the amount of molecules in a drop of water to how much faster than the speed of light can the Millenium Falcon go, he wants to know the answer. One day he asked the question about why do so many people judge or react based on emotion or clan, or affiliation rather than on reason. I explained to him that it harks back to the antediluvian exchange between the mid-brain and the frontal cortex. From this he said he wanted to see the mid brain and how it works. In response, we ordered this Learning Resources Brain Model. It has about 30 pieces and each piece has little pegs or holes so that the whole brain can be snapped together within a few minutes (if you really understand the anatomy of the brain). Overall, the model covers all of the major areas of the brain including the brain stem, mid brain regions, the 4 lobes and has highlights for specific areas like the Motor Cortex. Overall it is a fairly good little model and even includes a small stand for the brain to be displayed. The reason why I am giving it 4 instead of 5 stars is that the brain is a little bit difficult to snap together. In some areas, the fit is very tight and it is a little bit hard to get some of the pieces to plug into another. In totality though I would say this model does a pretty good job and it definitely was fun and eye opening for my six year old son. I would recommend to other parents interested in educating their children or parents who homeschool.

Complicated instructions
First off I would say that it is small so easy to carry. Putting it together is what I didnt expect. It came with instructions but it was so hard to put back together the reading was awful. Also some parts arent what I expected of the brain so this didnt help me at all.

Check the dims
Neat little model, has some weight, but its not very large. Kind of lacks a wow factor, just my opinion.

Not easy to assemble
This was for my "10-yr-old" and she was having a tough time with it so I tried to help, but the pieces aren't labeled so the booklet diagram isn't that simple to follow. The pieces don't fit well so far. I gave up - she's been at it for almost an hour, bless her heart!

Fun & Educational
The detail is really amazing for the size and cost. It even has the ventricles, corpus callosum, and hippocampus as separate pieces. It shows the different areas of the brain very clearly. I teach A&P at the college level and have one of these in my office, which saves a trip to the lab when students stop by with questions. I can even use it during lecture to show how the brain is put together in a general way. I recommend it to my students to help them learn the anatomy, since it fits well with a limited budget. A few points to consider: 1) It is very difficult to put together the first time. You need to be gentle but firm to get the pieces to fit right. They don't need to be forced, just coaxed. It takes a decent understanding of the brain to put it together correctly, which is why it is good for students. They have to work at it, which helps them remember it better. Once put together, the pieces fit snugly and will stay together. 2) It is detailed and accurate, but definitely not a lab quality brain, which tends to cost several hundred dollars. Part of the learning process can involve using markers to color in additional structures if necessary. 3) Believe the age recommendation (8+). Younger children would probably get very frustrated with it, and even the older ones might also. I wouldn't necessarily consider it a toy. 4) It's pretty durable, but the tiny pegs that hold it together would definitely break if forced too hard. 5) It is small, just as specified in the description. The total height is about 9 inches, which includes the base the model stands on, the brain stem, and cerebrum.

This model of course is not good enough for a medical student
This model of course is not good enough for a medical student, but for the price it is a good way to learn about the major structures of the brain. The little booklet doesn't give detailed information, but you can learn more from textbooks or by researching on the Internet. The 3-D model allows you to visualize the structures in relation to one another. As you learn more, you will be asking,"Is this cheap model 100% accurate?" I found that there are s inaccuracies but they are minor, unless of course you are studying neuroscience for a profession. The fun(and some aggravation) was in trying to figure out whether it was accurate or not. For example, the bumps near the midbrain, are they hypothalamus or not? I think they are but I still am not sure. But in the process I learned a lot. I liked the fact that it is small. You can manipulate everything in the palm of your hand and see all the structures from different angles. If you want to get a model to teach your kid and to have it on the desk, this small model is probably not a good choice. As soon as I learned everything I needed to know, I put it away. The tiny thing doesn't add to your desk decor, but then does any brain model do that?

It’s a great, anatomically reasonably accurate, tiny, brain
It’s a great little brain. It IS little, fits in your hand. But it’s well made with lots of tiny little details. They can all be pulled apart. You can’t put it together wrong because of how the pieces fit. When you first get it, all the pieces are a bit tight and hard to put together, but I imagine it will loosen up over time (hopefully not too much). The instruction pictures were nearly impossible to follow, however. I actually had to go to the back of the brochure, which lists the parts and what they’re supposed to represent, and put it together using anatomy is a guide. It definitely needs better instructions for new builders. I am very happy with this brain in all other respects - design, quality, anatomical accuracy, easy of dis/assembly (once you’ve figured it out the first time). I wish it was a little bigger though!

Brain size is of you palm. Helpful in educating parts of the brain
It’s a good way of teaching parts of the brain for students. The size of the brain is of your palm so the inside materials are even smaller. Need to be careful when opening and re assembling the brain parts as using it over and over made it break. Not recommend for very small kids as it’s not a toy.

A bit on the small side...
Good learning resource if a little difficult to put together. All the different components of the brain are present and labelled well in the accompanying instruction booklet. Only real gripe is the size, its a bit small and would have been easier to see the location of the brain parts if about 50% larger.

Good value
The pieces don't fit together perfectly and no parts are labelled so it's not that useful as an educational tool, but if you already know what you're looking at then it's fine
