It's worth the money but you get what you pay for.
I originally gave this three stars factoring in price to quality. This is definitely a case of you get what you pay for. The Spring mantles (Insta-Clip Mantles) seemed easy enough, just make sure that you overlap them the correct way, giving you the tightest fit. You will not find the proper image on amazon, do a search Google "Coleman Insta-Clip Mantle, 2-Pack" Since I have been active in Boy Scouts recently I planned on replacing my white gas products like myColeman Two-Mantle Dual Fuel Powerhouse Lantern andColeman 2-Burner Dual Fuel Powerhouse Liquid Fuel Stove with propane. I thought it would be better using the propane instead of worrying about white gas. My reasoning for this is it would be safer to carry propane tanks in place of white gas and make life easier. Anyhow I was wrong, my Dual Fuel Powerhouse lantern (more than double the price) is a much better built lantern and I carry aNew - Primus Fuel Bottle 1.5L - P-732531 . This is plenty of fuel and will last 5 days under light use. Refilling is easy enough and you should use one of thoseColeman Filtering Funnel . I sometimes just pour it into the lantern from the fuel bottle. The control knob feels very cheap on the propane lantern and there are sort of preset clicks for different levels of intensity, this is a nice feature, the globe seems pretty hefty. It's fairly well built but I would worry about the footing that slide out possibly breaking off. The propane tank sits tight inside the base. I will most likely donate this to the Boy Scouts with myColeman 2-Burner Dual Fuel Powerhouse Liquid Fuel Stove If you plan on replacing a liquid gas lantern with propane, Don't , unless you plan to use this for Scouts. You may be disappointed, however, I would highly recommend this item for aStansport Distribution Post - 2 Piece - 30 in. - 3 Outlet or aCentury Two-Piece 18-30" Type 1 Safety Post with Bag but as a primary lantern that will get hung in a tree, placed on the ground, placed on a picnic table etc...,I suggest spending the extra cash and getting a Dual Fuel Lantern. I hope this was helpful. *UPDATE 2013/10/22 Used this on a recent C.O.P.E trip with the Boy Scouts and worked well, the base worked fine. I really hate to mothball my gasser, but for Scouts this is much more practical. I will be ordering a Propane tree and will update again. I updated my rating from 3 stars to 4, for the simple fact that it does what it is intended to do and it's a fair price for what you are getting. I keep the Gasser when camping in the trailer. *UPDATE 2015/02/22 I mentioned earlier in this review about the presets being a nice feature, However, after my most recent trip I am not happy with the presets. Using this in a tent (please no comments on using in a tent) on our winter camping trip I realized the presets suck, the lowest setting was too low so the next click up was too bright, we tried running on the lowest setting but it let out a horrible whistling sound. This is still a decent lantern but proved to be a bad choice in our 8 man tent. I have since opted to order thePrimus Micron Lantern , I will review this later. I left the rating for 4 starts because these cons will not apply to most folks.

It needs a case big time.
If you don't have something very secure for it to travel in, it's going to get smashed. It doesn't even come with a can of gas to get you started. This is a very, very basic kit. I would look for something more complete unless you are replacing a broken one that has stuff for it.

Buy extra mantles!
Although I'm also quite willing to entertain the possibility that I'm doing it wrong. This thing generates major heat but also major light. Just, super bright, and with a single can of fuel it will burn for hours. I've never managed to get a mantle to survive so I can use it more than once but again, I might be doing it wrong. (Seriously, everything I've read on the subject suggests strongly that I'm doing it wrong but that's not the lantern's fault.) With that said, it never hurts to bring spare equipment anyway, and again, super bright. Be mindful of the heat.

Don't go camping without it.
What can I say, it is a lantern, sort of like the old Coleman fuel lantern but it burns propane. Fairly bright, the higher up you have the better it light the night. I'm nostalgic for the lanterns of old, but I have to admit this version does everything they did. No fuel to spill, it burns great, you can adjust the light output and it breaks down to a small size without the tank. I set this up a home with the mantles, packed it away and went camping at a campground with no electricity, when night came and I wanted light, out came the lantern. On the first night when I turned down the light because I didn't need it at full throttle, it whistled for about two seconds on low, the next two nights it didn't make the sound at all. A few things to remember folks, this thing uses combustion to light, it burns propane, keep it away from flammable material it will get hot, don't use it in an enclosed space, and allow it to cool before putting in a tent for overnight storage. Also those little battery lanterns, headband lights, and flashlights make better walking around the campground lights.

Great replacement for the old liquid fuel lanterns.
I have used Coleman fuel (liquid) lanterns for 35 years and finally made the jump to these propane lanterns. I should have done it long ago. They are easy to use, light the first time, don't need to be pumped and don't smell of gasoline. They are easy to store as the propane canister can be removed and the base attaches to the lamp. There is only one slight drawback - They are noisier than the old ones but that's a small inconvenience.

Good lantern, wish I had splurged a litttle more to get the igniter model.
What can I say, it's a Coleman. This model is the non-igniter version, which will require you to have matches along with you. Pros: 1) It runs off of the Coleman propane cans (the green ones), great for those people with shaky hands. 2) Provides more than enough bright light, even at the halfway point of the dial, for the majority of your campsite when centrally placed. Cons: 1) Need to make sure that you bring matches with you, or have your campfire started and going before you really need the lantern. Overall this is a really good lantern from a very established outdoors equipment company. Best choice you'll ever make.

Good lantern.
Good light. Really bright. It's a bit noisy when you turn it up and it's a hard to dial in a lower setting, but over all it's good. The mantles are fragile and burn up sometimes, so keep a few pairs on hand.

Excellent product.
I bought this Lantern a couple of years ago and I must say and it works every bit as good today as it did when I took it out of the box.
