Pricey but worth it
I use it to lock my bike in the building’s garage. I’m still paranoid enough that when the door broke I took the bike upstairs but the size makes it really easy for me to lock and unlock my bike and I feel like it keeps her safe down there.

Very safe, slightly expensive and really huge for my bike
I really liked how strong and safe this lock was. The only thing that was an issue for me was its size and weight. I needed a lock that I could install on my bike, but I could not find proper space on my bike to install this lock. I had to carry it in my backpack.

Bought it for the insurance.
The main reason I bought it is because of the insurance the company offers at a reasonable cost. The lock itself seems sturdy enough but any lock is breakable. I had some trouble locking the bottom piece to the U at 1st and discovered that you have to be sure to push it all the way together or it won't lock. The rubber o rings can move and block the 2 pieces from going all the way together. You can always slide them higher up the shaft. Also, if you aren't going to use the holder it comes with, you can remove it by 1st removing the rubber o ring.

Anti-theft
I bought this lock to protect my investment. Anyone who sees this lock on my scooter would think twice about stealing it. The lock is a better deterrent device than any others such as alarm because once it's lock to a permanent post the thief will need to jackhammer the post to take it, which gives me a great piece of mine when I park my scooter in public areas.

Great Lock! AMAZING service from Kryptonite!
UPDATE 5/30- Kryptonite asked for a pic of the damage, which I sent. They immediately shipped me a new lock and sent me a ups label to send the damaged one back. All during the Covid-Crazy! First rate service, nice to get that these days. UPDATE 5/15- Was tightening the spline screw with the supplied wrench and the screw stripped out. Later, on my first ride with it mounted, the spline loosened and the lock rotated in the mount and was rubbed by the back tire, damaging the finish on the shackle down to the metal. Submitted ticket, guess I'll see what they say. This is a beast of a lock. Heavy if that matters to you. Key and bolt operation is smooth as silk. Only con is the mount, I'm scared the lock is heavy enough to break it if I hit a curb or other sharp bump. Only time will tell. It would also be nice if the mount was designed to be moved, as it is when you cut the rubber and strap you're stuck with that size. But the lock itself is great, 5 stars!

Hard to get it fully seated
Sturdy lock for sure but I also have the New York lock which operates so much more smoothly. That one takes seconds to lock and unlock. This one requires so much fiddling to get it in the correct position for the key to turn. Annoying that it usually takes an extra 20 seconds every time I want to lock and unlock it.

You know it, you love it
I’m not really sure how much needs to be said here…it’s a good lock. The NY’r might be heavier, but at the point you’re getting through the kryptonite, you’re getting through anything. The evolution is, for me, the sweet spot of security vs. weight, unless the person has an angle grinder, it’s not going anywhere. If they do have an angle grinder, nothing you do is going to matter. I’ve used the evolution in Philadelphia for years, and I’ve never lost a bike (knock on wood). And I lock up expensive bikes.

Sturdy lock with design flaws
I bought this lock for my electric scooter. It's big enough to lock it to things and nothing has been stolen, so that's good. However, I have had a couple issues with it so far: 1. the mounting mechanism is sticky. it takes considerable effort to attach and unattach the lock to the mount. i.e. sliding that silver bracket in and out of the mounting mechanism is very hard to do. 2. the U bar is sometimes difficult to insert into the cylinder Overall i expected much smoother operation for such an expensive lock and would not buy this brand again.

Solid as they come for a D lock
Weighs loads and is very very robust, gold standard means that its going to be hard to get into. I have on a folded Brompton and it will fit frame and back wheel to most posts, I use a big double loop of 14mm to secure front wheel. I will not fit to frame when riding so my loss of 1 star is only down to the face that the metal fixing point on the left side of the picture is not removable and so care need to be taken when securing the bike as this has frame scratcter written all over it. I have secured with electrician tape but hopefully when Kryptonite issue the next gen they will make this part removable.

The last one lasted 20 years. And this one is thicker.
Some of the reviews mention problems with the cylinder or the keys. They are previous to the 2017 " New-U" design. I think it is not fair to keep them here. I purchased a Kryptonite MegaLok back in May 1998. Twenty years after, in May 2018, the cylinder failed. I have been consistently parking my bicycle outdoors for the last five years, with plenty of rain in the previous months. We had to use an electric grinder (this reminds us that ANY lock, even the "9-10" rated, can be cut in seconds with a power tool). During these twenty years, I lost the keys three times. Every time I got a free replacement in my mailbox, overseas. That's why Kryptonite was my first option when I looked for a replacement. Since this model is not directly available in Spain, where I currently live, I had to buy an expensive Angus chain from a local German store as a temporary solution -but it was too heavy to carry it. The model I got is the longest, the LS, which is about the same length as the previous one I owned.- a few mm longer and wider. In my experience, a smaller lock is not very useful in a city with not too many parking racks. The keys are now stainless steel, and the lock has now a plastic sliding cover to protect it from the water. One of the first things I noticed is that the metal is now thicker than the one I bought in 1998. This is the opposite I expected. Also, the mounting bracket looks much better than the older one (that one lasted a few years). My bicycle frame (yes, I own the same bicycle I purchased along with the lock back in 1998!) is rather small, so I think the reviews that mention space problems to mount the bracket are misleading. The instructions give plenty of details on how to adjust the bracket, although the picture showing the recommended locations might be confusing. The lock does not have to be inside the frame, you only have to care about finding a position that does not impede your pedalling. The problem is that these instructions require the people buying this lock to be literate! :) (See attached picture) IMHO Kryptonite is one of those rare remaining American companies - like Oster and a few others- that still care about quality and customer service. And I want to add that I'm not being paid by Kryptonite to review this lock. ------ EDITION AFTER 3 YEARS OF DAILY USE: Now I notice the mounting bracket is about the same as 20 years ago. I had to tighten it too often, and I do not use it anymore. Instead, I carry the U lock hanging from the handlebar, facing down to lower the centre of gravity. I see Kryptonite has some room for improvement on this bracket. As for the lock itself, it is working like a charm. However, I recommend using a graphite powder lubricant at the first sign of difficulty opening it.

Wise purchase, very tough lock.
Just installed it today. Very tough and somewhat intimidating. Very nice mounting options - take your time and learn the hardware, observe the diagrams. I had to test fit before tightening thins up permanently. I mounted it to the seat post to prevent it from slipping down the frame -slightly to the right. and does not interfere with peddling, Looks good, doesn't rattle. Expensive but a smart purchase.
