THE pad for those aging canti brakes

In a world of disc brakes, a few of us have older gravel bikes that use these things. Perfect fit to keep that dirt road monster rolling for another decade.

Probably the best pads for older rim-brakes systems.

They are pretty the best, grippiest, and quiet pads I've used for my late 90's GT 26-inch MTB. My only complaint is that they only fit well in the Kool Stop pad holders. While Avid and Kool Stop are both theoretically "Shimano V-brake" compatible, if you are replacing pads on an older Avid system, the Kool Stop pads have a frighteningly loose fit; however, simply upgrading to Kool Stop pad holders as well makes for a much better (and safer feeling) fit.

Hard to find this kind of pad - and one pin was missing!

These V brake pads are out of fashion and hard to find. I just received two pairs. They are supposed to come with pins to hold them in place. One pair only had one pin in the package! It looked like the package had been opened before........

Much better than Shimano

I've had the same experience several times with Shimano V-brake pads - gritty, rough noise during braking. Switching to the Kool Stop pads (red) completely resolves the issue and braking is quiet and smooth. Great product and highly recommended!

Nice stopping power!

I installed these on my commuter bike this spring, and they are good stuff. One of the first things I did after I installed these pads was nearly launch myself over the handlebars. That was my own stupid fault for waiting too long to replace my old pads, but these things have grip! One of the really nice features of these brake pads (yes, I meant to use "features" and "brake pads" in the same sentence) is the angled tip. When the pads are properly aligned, it allows the rear tip to make light contact with the tire before the rest of the pad to squeegee water or gunk from the braking surface so the rest of the pad can grip. It works really well, but in my experience, it take just a bit of extra work to get the alignment right. If you don't, they will screech a lot, so it is well worth the extra few minutes.

Quick and Easy Upgrade to Greatly Improve Stopping Power!

If you are looking for a great way to improve the stopping power of your rim brakes, then these are the way to go! And while all rim brakes generally don't perform as well when wet (I ride every day rain or shine), these start gripping much faster than other brands I've tried using. These pads have consistently received good reviews over the years, and after personally putting them through their paces by using them to stop nearly 300 pounds of steel commuter rig, cargo and rider going down 10 percent grades fairly often, I can see why. Don't hesitate to purchase...a great, quick upgrade that you can do yourself!

Good, solid brake pads, especially in the wet

I use these on the v-brakes I put on my Surly LHT, which sees daily commuting service. These brake pads are the best I've had on any bike for wet conditions and minimize the loud, sometimes embarrassing squeal bike brakes can make when it's raining, or even if it's not. The leading edge of the brake pad (relative to the rotation of the wheel) is designed to push away water, dirt, and grim that may be in the rim when it rains allowing the rest of the brake pad to work on a drier, cleaner rim. Short of disc brakes, which have their own issues and would mean I'd need to get a new bike frame anyway, these pads are the best I've found. So glad they're on Prime now, too, for those times, like this one, when I couldn't make it to the LBS.

Warum nur ....

.... habe ich meine originalen SHIMANO/XT-Beläge nicht schon längst in die Tonne gehauen? Was die KoolStopp-Beläge im Vergleich zum Original bringen ist phänomenal! Kein Quietschen, kein Rubbeln und die Bremsleistung kommt einer Scheibenbremse schon sehr, sehr nahe! Zudem habe ich auch den Eindruck, dass sie wesentlich schonender mit der Felge umgehen. Daher: uneingeschränkte Kaufempfehlung!
