Great replacement parts for road bike.
The dura variation of these pads fit tektro cartridges. Super easy install and improved stopping power. Subjectively, the brake feel and modulation also seems to have improved. Excellent parts, highly recommended.

Awesome company
Good product, great company. Somehow I got sent a mispackaged item that I didn't realize until after the return deadline. Emailed the company and they took care of it without any hassle! The brakes themselves work great, of course.

Strange Product - Squishy and then Lock-Up! - not sure if I like em or just installed em wrong
This is a very difficult product to review. I bought these to replace my standard stock Ultegra pads that came with my bike. These come with absolutely no installation instructions whatsoever which seems odd for something as important as YOUR BRAKES! But once you figure it out by looking at pictures and videos on-line its not hard. One problem is that when first installed they look completely wrong. The back end is very very close (ok actually touching the rim) while the front is a mile away. This is apparently how it is supposed to be. I had to take my bike down to my LBS to have them check out my installation. The end that is really close to the rim is supposed to scrape mud etc from the rim to help stopping. It will wear down a little after a few miles so it's not still touching the rim. They are thinner than the stock Ultegras so they better wear more slowly. They do not crap up the rims with black rubber gunk like the stock Ultegra pads which is nice. The stopping power is very strange and takes some getting used to. It's both very squishy and prone to complete lockup. Instead of being a linear function of brake pressure it is kind of logarithmic so when you apply the brakes lightly nothing happens. It basically goes, "nothing" "nothing" "light slowing" "light slowing" "medium slowing" "complete lockup!!! tire skidding!!!" You don't lose control you just loose rubber from the tire as it drags along the asphalt. So they definitely stop the wheel. It's just odd. Plus at the point where it locks up the wheel the brake levers will be squeezed closer than you have ever had them squeezed before. You can't really adjust this out because of the toe-in that I mentioned above. You can't get closer to the rim to give the brake levers more range. So they basically work. I like that I don't have to clean my rims. I'm a little worried about they next time I panic and slam on the brakes. I'm not sure what will happen. it will either not stop or completely lock-up. I keep wondering "maybe they are not meant for my bike's brakes" but the LBS said they are ok.

Pretty damn good replacements for stock Shimanos
It's hard to beat the real Shimano stuff and frankly - stopping-wise - I'm not sure if the differing design of the ridges on these versus what comes on the stock Shinanos is helping me to stop any faster. But there does seem to be an increase in performance when wet and they certainly work as well as the Shimanos but are cheaper yet seem to have some great ratings and durability. I've had them on for a season now with no appreciable wear over what is normal for, say, Shimanos. Of course they install just like any other brake pads, and have no weirdness or anything special needed to get them aligned correctly. They have a bit of a taper which would seem to be a great design for more stopping power. Are they better than Shimanos? Likely at least for certain conditions, as above. Get 'em, you won't regret it.

Greatly increased stopping power
I bought an affordable bike with a good gear set but cheap brakes. Replacing the stock brake pads with these was cheap, easy, and greatly increased my stopping power.

Kool Stop Continental brake pads
Note that in order to get the salmon Continentals you have to select Continentals below Dura-Ace salmon - the possibility on the right. The shape would be as shown in the middle gray Continental selection, not as shown - you must select Continental in the drop down to avoid being shipped the wrong part. These salmon brakes are just right for vintage bikes. Toe-in each pad by carefully bending its aluminum arm - use force but don't overdo. Be gentle or you could break the arm. A 6" crescent works for this. Braking is much better than normal brake pads, also in the rain but not as good in the rain as disk brakes. An alternative for threaded salmon Kool Stop pads would be Kool Stop Eagle Claw 2 - the Amazon link: https://www.amazon.com/Kool-Stop-Eagle-Bicycle-Cantilever/dp/B001CK0G4W/ref=rtpb_1/146-7670444-1557026 No need to bend the arm to toe-in, unlike the Continentals, Eagle Claw 2 builds toe-in into the fastener.

Great Stoppers and Quiet
I wouldn’t buy any others after trying these. As far as ease of installation 3 star I used them for a 1994 Rockhopper with center pull brakes. Center pull are a pain the ass. It’s not the product’s fault.

Great brakes
If braking is important to you, as it is to me, Kool Stop is the best brake pad out there. I've tried Dura Ace, Swiss Stop, and a whole slew of others. The black Kool Stops are designed for dry weather; the salmon are for wet. They make a ½ and ½ pad, but I don't ride in the rain, so the blacks are for me. They never squeal (assuming the brake bad is adjusted with the proper toe in), and stop your bike faster than any other pad sold. And they're light for us weight weenies. Be warned they fit only Dura Ace style brake shoes, so be sure they will fit your bike. I had Zero Gravity brakes (a gift, because they're so expensive I'd never buy them) and they didn't stop my bike very well. So I put in Kool Stops and the difference was remarkable. I felt confident again that I could descend a hill and brake the bike when needed. For the best braking experience you're likely to enjoy, Kool Stop are the pads of choice. I have three bikes, and they all are now equipped with Kool Stops. I've NEVER heard a single bad word about these pads, and I know a lot of cyclists who use them. Cyclists are a hypercritical breed, which makes this lack of criticism quite remarkable. So, get a pair and you'll stop where and when you want to. Is there anything else you expect from your brakes?
