Not sensitive enough for reef aquariums
I suppose it works, but beware if you are measuring Fe in a reef aquarium. You are likely trying to maintain levels at or below 0.1ppm (100ppb), and this test kit is just not sensitive enough to do a good job. At first it said I had no iron in the aquarium. Of course there is indeed iron in the system, just not high enough to detect by their kit. I cut the sample in half (1 pipette of sample vs 2) and I got some color change in the test solution that equated to something less than 0.05ppm. It was barely changing color. So maybe I have 0.025ppm. But honestly, at these levels, and since the kit already says its accuracy is +-0.05ppm, its hard to say what the number is. Its basically useless if you need it for measuring very low levels.

The test gives good readings, but theres a lot of problems with this test kit. 1. Direction clarity: the directions are very poorly worded and in general, just somewhat difficult to understand. Thank god they added photos in the directions, otherwise it would have been much more confusing. 2. Direction measurements: The way they ask you to make measurements is very innacurate for the testing, and results of tests will vary between tests due to these innaccuracies. The first example is how they ask you to fill the tray for testing. They say fill the pipet up twice to the base of the bulb of the pipet. I would have found a number measurement, in mL preferably, much more accurate and consistent. A syringe would have been more accurate for this test kit. Another innacuracy in the test is for the low level testing. When you fill the small test flask, it just says to fill it up until the water level is a centimeter or a half of an inch from the top. Again, a water volume in mL would have been much more accurate, and a syringe would have been helpful. 3. Measurement readings: The chart which they give you to compare your tests to is hard to read. It is nice in the sense that it is a gradient chart, with 0 being white and 2.0 being dark purple, but the color of the fluid is hard to compare to the chart. 4. Cheap pieces: The low level test flasks have poor quality control, and tend to have a small wobble. This wouldnt be that much of an issue, until you realize that the cap for this small test tube isnt water tight, and simply just sits on top. If it falls over, which it will with the slightest bump on the table, it will spill everywhere. I've used many test kits over the years, from Elos to Red Sea to Salifert to API, and the Seachem test kit is probably the most difficult one I've used of them all. It may be accurate, but it is not any easy kit to use.

Hard to distinguish color difference
It is very hard to distinguish the differences between colors on the indicator chart. The whole color chart is a shade of purple gradually getting darker purple as iron level increases. If the level of iron tested is greatly different from the target your trying to hit, then you can tell. If it's close, say between .5 and 1, then you can hardly tell the difference. I gave it a three because it does work and at least it gives you a ballpark reading. I really wish you could accurately read it at smaller increments, from .2 to .3, rather than just .5 to 1. Also, the test requires you to use a level scoop, which they provide, of a reagent powder. I found this to have to much room for error. Packed level scoop or unpacked? One persons scoop might be different from mine too. Don't know if the difference would give a different result, I just didn't like the idea of it. A dropper that you know is giving consistency would be nice.

OK, but not easy to read
The test kit works as intended, but is quite hard to get accurate readings. The color distinctions at low levels are rather hard to distinguish (and low levels are what probably the majority of people have, i.e. those using low-tech tanks and dosing). Testing simultaneously for chelated and non-chelated is good, but the idea of reading one after a few minutes and one after 45 is confusing. Perhaps all this is driven simply by chemistry, but it is an issue. I would have rated this lower except they put in a calibration sample, which is useful. It would have been more helpful if they had a chelated and non-chelated sample.

helpful and cheap
I am using this to monitor the iron our well water in the new place. Takes over an hour to show the color, but no biggie. Hard to gauge color very accurately, but I am only trying to get an idea to around .1 mg/l units accuracy. Can't be sure but so far I have no reason to think it is not reasonably accurate. Components a bit on the cheesy side, but for the price plenty good enough. Seems to do the job and when I like it well enough I'll at some point buy another kit.

acceptable to differentiate different values of Iron in planted Aquarium
It is easy to perform the testing for Iron with this Seachem Test kit. It only takes a bit over 2 minutes to wait for results. I like knowing the range of Iron I should be adding to my planted aquarium twice per week.

Worked for me 60% of the time everytime
I was sceptic about buying this product there are many Negative reviews. This test worked for me immediately out of the Box if you are having trouble with the test sampl. Try using the bigger samples, I feel that some of you may have an issue with this because iron levels are so low in your sample they do not register therefore you think it does not work.

Peggior prodotto Seachem!
Impeccabile come sempre. Peccato di non avermi informato prima, non lo avrei acquistato.

Doesn’t work on Chelated and EDTA iron
First I’m an aquarist for more than 10 years, I’m globally very satisfy by Seachem products. But I try the iron test kit for testing fresh water and it look like it’s not working on chelated or EDTA iron. I follow the instructions and for all the sample with fertilizer with chelated iron no color appear even after waiting for few hours (I even try different aquarium fertilizer: Tropica and API cf pics)
