So worth it; excellent for opening up the shoulders
This is my second high density foam roller, both from JFIT. This is just a larger version of the other I previously ordered. I've had chronic back and neck pain for years now and one day on the Internet I saw a guy pop his back with one. I wasn't actually sure believed that it would work but the smaller one is inexpensive (not that this is expensive for it's size) so I gave it a shot. I use it several times per day. I can't tell you how much of a difference it makes in my daily life. I recently started seeing a new physical therapist and during the initial consultation I described all the gadgets I use to help deal with the pain. She kept referring to a "bolster". which in my mind is the thing I sit on when I meditate, but eventually found out she meant a high density foam roller. I described how I use mine and she asked if I ever lay long way on it to open up the shoulders. Which brings me to the need for this larger sized one. The smaller 18" roller is perfect for rolling down my back to pop it (it's also small enough I just tuck it under something in the living room so I always have it available... I also take it on trips with me!). This one is large enough that I need to put it away in a closet. So while I CAN roll down this one to pop my back I primarily use it to lay on and open up my shoulders. As a programmer I'm at my desk a lot, and typing/using a mouse/deskwork can cause you to tend to roll in your shoulders, collapse your frame, etc. To help adjust for this you can simply lay longway (so that it's parallel with your spine). Then just relax and let your shoulders open up. You'll feel the difference immediately. I typically use this one twice a day. Once when I wake up and then either after I'm done working or before bed. One note: I have a cat that, for some reason, will eat or tear into anything FOAM. For instance, he chewed the feet pads off my inversion table. The smaller "super high density" foam roller (that I leave in the living room) he never touches. The 36" roller I have is the blue "high density EVA" and he HAS either clawed, nibbled on, etc this one which is an additional reason to stash it in a closet.

Like a Na'Vi: a long, blue, skinny magical creature!
This foam roller has really helped me a lot with 1) relieving post work out soreness, and 2) alleviating general upper back and shoulder tension. After doing a multitude of squats, jumps and lunges, using the foam roller on my legs is agonizing bliss. The phrase "it hurts so good" has never been more suitably applied than to a foam roller. You may think that physical stretching is good enough, but sometimes, you really need to get deep into your muscles and a foam roller will do just that. Yes, granted, the first few (or several) times you use the roller, it will be VERY painful, especially in the parts you have never adequately stretched or kneaded (such as the quads, calves, hamstrings and ESPECIALLY the IT bands - oh dear lord) but I really suggest powering through the pain, or, conversely, taking a lot of breaks (and making sure to breath in and out the whole time - this is USEFUL) between rolls, or using your arms (and sometimes feet) to prop you up to help alleviate some of the weight off the roller for a less intense (but still effective) rolling. I also find it's great to lie on top of both vertically and horizontally to undo some of the damage that sitting in front of a computer all day slouching causes. Also, if you have shoulder and upper back tension, which can be caused by a lot of things, I have found the roller to be the best inanimate Masseuse for the money you spend. It really does feel good to roll out the tensions of your upper back and shoulders (from lifting weights, or just general day-to-day knots and tension). I've even used it to massage out some muscle spasms caused by lifting weights or just your average crick in the neck type pain. I HIGHLY recommend this to all my workout buddies and friends - better than the black one (which is too firm and can be painful), and definitely better than the white ones (which lose its shape and gets all flat and squished in the middle after a little while).

Blue is pretty hard.
I got the blue log. This thing is very hard in my opinion. I've only used one other log before, the one my friend has is a foam one that is a bit softer. I like the softness of my friend's log better, but I like the material of this one better. I feel like this material will last a lot longer than the foam ones. I got this when it was on sale so the price was just right. I got this because my back muscles tense up a lot. My main use for this is to crack my back. I haven't found anything better for cracking ones back than laying back on a log and rolling it along the spine. For just stretching the back out though my favorite thing to use is a simple yoga ball. I've tried laying on this thing long ways, with my spine parallel to it directly on top, and don't really feel much of a stretch at all. I give this 4 stars because it feels like a very good quality product, I just wish it were a bit softer. I can't imagine how hard the black one is.

Hurts so good.
This is my first foam roller and I have to say it is amazing. I use it to mend sore muscles as a result of workouts and it works very very well. You roll on the spot that hurts and you just hold that position. This part WILL hurt and it is supposed to (think about when you get a massage and they press on a knot you have). Another way i have used it, is to slowly run in on my back over the course of a few minutes. I sit down a lot at work so I hunch forward. When I get home I use this to relax my back and it is an awesome feeling. I bought the high density roller, and it looks to be of very good quality. If anything changes over the course of its use, I will post an update here. So far though, I give it 5 stars and it is MUCH cheaper than a massage therapist. Don't get me wrong, I like massages too but this will keep me from going as often and save me money.

Excellent quality roller, great density and feel
My foam roller arrived this week. I really like the quality of this roller, the density of the foam is perfect, not too soft so it really works the muscles when I roll my calves, quads, and upper back, but it has just a bit of softness so it's fairly gentle with regular use. This roller will be an important part of my daily warmup routine. Also, this roller does not have any odor, so it works will in our living room. Thanks j/fit!!

Great Foam Roller!
This is a wonderful roller! It needs to be firm and thats exactly what it is. What I love is the guide on the back of the package which recommends basic stretches. Very helpful and I wil be posting on my wall in my workout room. I would reccomend this product.
