Seems Adequate Value for Money
Before I bought this shag bag, I read all the negative reviews about it, and I have to say that I bought it with some reservation. But it is about half the price of the original shag bag, so I figured it was a worthy gamble. I'm glad I made it, because the bag has been fine so far (a few months of moderate--not heavy--use). Many of the more negative comments are accurate--the fabric is flimsy, for example, and the zipper is really cheesy. But knowing this, I just take care to handle the bag gently (I don't baby it, but I'm also not a person who is typically hard on his gear), and it works fine. I have not so far had any problems with the clips that some reviewers comment on, and the basic structure of the tube and handle seems sturdy enough and works just fine for picking up golf balls. For me, I'd rather save the money right now and get some use out of this bag. I know the zipper will fail at some point, and I probably would spend for the original article next time, but meanwhile, I've learned something about how much I will actually use a shag bag for much less dough. So I'd say this is an adequate product if you just understand its limitations. If you are rough on gear or if you use a shag bag for hours every day, by all means, go for the real thing. But if you're budget-conscious or just getting into the game, why not save yourself $30 or $40? (Hey, that's a round or two of golf!)

Just received 8/17/12 (will update as used) -- Metal internal hardware, "Metal-painted plastic" handle...
So I just received this item yesterday and my first impression was that it looks good. I was surprised how hard I had to push down on balls to pick them up -- to the point that I thought I may indent practice greens -- but after a little use, I got the technique down and it seemed the "teeth" that pick the ball up loosened up just a bit to a reasonable tension. The ball tube and teeth seem very well made, but I noticed the teeth are bolted -- not screwed -- into the shaft. If these ever pop out, the thing will be useless and irreparable. Hopefully it is sturdily built. The most apparent weakness initially appears to be the handle, which is not metallic, but is instead a rigid plastic that is painted with a metallic sheen. Granted, I won't be using the Shag Bag to hit any balls down a fairway, but I imagine the handle needs to withstand some long-term stresses. I paid $24 on Amazon for this, so I expected the hardware to be all metal construction Overall, I am satisfied, and I expect my 4-star rating will stand, but I will update after a few weeks or if anything significant happens (breakages, etc.). If the plastic handle and the bolted teeth hold up fine, I would be ok upgrading this rating to 5-star for a $24 Shag Bag. I'll be in touch!

Very handy! Works as described. Sometimes when I mow the lawn and don’t have much time....the last thing I want to do is deal with picking up all of my golf balls I’ve been practicing in the back yard with for the last week. We have a large yard. This little guy helps me make one less tedious yard work task less annoying. We also will use with our golf simulator And projector (outside and self distancing) when we have 1-2 friends over during Covid so that people aren’t touching balls, along with an automatic golf dispenser, which we intend to load by dumping the balls picked up with this new gadget . I should also mention, it does great and picks up the practice “foam” golf balls, and the practice whiffle ball practice balls....just as well as real golf balls! Buy one. You will not regret it!

Great shag bag
I was looking for a decent shag bag to help pick up the balls on the chipping practice green when I spotted this one on Amazon. The price was right and it appeared to be well made (not plastic). On this purchase, I did the right thing. It's great. I usually carry about 50 golf balls in it and just dump them around the green in different locations. After chipping them towards the hole (or trying), the shag bag goes with me to collect them. Much easier than picking them up by hand (I'm not a spring chicken, Medicare is my doctor) or batting them back to the side (then having to chase them around again). I had looked at several from other sources and they were either quite a bit more expensive and/or made with plastic parts. This bag is sturdy, well made and easy to use. I've picked up well more than 1,000 balls and it works very well. I would highly recommend this one to any golfer serious enough to practice his/her short game. UPDATE OF REVIEW: SEPT 2011 I still use the shag bag without any problems. Used twice a week picking up 70-100 each time. The one I purchased has held up very well. NO Problems at all. Unfortunate that some bags may be defective, as noted by some buyers, but the mine is great. I would continue to recommend it after quite a bit of use. I calculate that it has retrieved over 10,000 balls without having me bend over to pick them up. Again, works great and is still in fine condition.

Super back saver shag bag
We live on the fifth fairway of a public golf course. The lot is 2 acres big, so we tend to get a lot of golf balls in the yard. Before I mow, I have to collect the balls. This shag bag is great. No bending over or kicking balls into a pile. The spring gripper holds the balls securely in the metal tube. And the balls deposit nicely into the ample and durable bag. Zippered bag makes it easy to empty the bag. Wife loves to go out and collect balls every few days. Only con is that the handle connection to the top of the bag is not very robust. If you push down too hard on the handle it may bend slightly. Normal pressure is not a problem. Just need to be careful with it. Bending and unbending the handle area may cause it to break over time.
