The ideal size for a lunchbox

I used the softside version of the Playmate cooler for years, and it worked mostly okay, but I never cared for the hinged top being held onto the body of the cooler with only a zipper, which made it rather fragile, plus the vinyl soft side eventually ripped, promptint me to replace it. I foolishly bought a no-name cooler fabric cooler with a hard plastic liner and hinged top wtih velcro closure and carrying strap from Wal-Mart after that, but I messed up by getting one that was about twice as big as I could handle, and the strap got in the way. This Wal-Mart cooler was just ungainly enough to make me flat hate getting it in and out of my car going to and leaving work, so I went on the lookout for a proper replacement. After a while, I realized that a medium sized Playmate Igloo would probably give me the best of both worlds, so I ordered this one. I've been using it for over a month now, and it's so handy, durable, just the right size, and keeps things cold, that I can't believe that I went so many years with a substandard lunchbox when I could have had this all along. Mine is one of the more common variants these days with the latch mechanism built into the end at the top of the carrying handle, an interesting change from the larger Playmate coolers that I grew up with that have the side button latch mechanism. Having decades of experience with the side button version and this one with the top latch, I think that most people would probably prefer the top latch because it allows one-handed opening. The only situation that I can think of that might favor the side button version (there are several still with the side button of this size Playmate available, namely the diamond plate one dubbed the "Boss") would be for those people who might be in a situation where accidentally opening the cooler would be more likely. It's possible that the side button would be a better type in a small space with other containers being moved in and out of it, say a car trunk, but I find that the top latch makes me like this just a bit better for my purposes. I use it on a daily basis for my lunch at work, and I have zero complaints so far. It's also worth mentioning that after all these years, these coolers are still made in USA, a big deal to those of us who buy domestic products whenever possible. I went to Igloo's website, and it turns out that the original Playmate cooler was originally invented clear back in 1971. There is no reason to reinvent the wheel!

7 quart igloo cooler can only fit 8.25" long x 5.5" wide x 7" tall. 4 stars only because it is hard to find a bento lunch box that would fit in it. purchased a bento box that was supposed to be 8.07" long and 5.31" wide. it turned out to be 9" long and won't fit. it is a nice cooler and kept it. returned the bento lunch box.

Not the biggest size but does the job

I ordered this because I was doing lots of work outside and it was over 90+ degrees for several weeks. This doesn’t fit a whole bunch especially if you add in an igloo ice block or two to keep things colder but it did fit a Gatorade and a bottle of water and two sodas which was just what I needed and it was blessedly cold on such a hot day. Like the instructions say you’ll have better results if you keep it in the refrigerator overnight before it’s use.

It arrived with pretty big scuff marks on it....

While the outside box was in pretty good shape, the cooler had more scuff marks on it than one would think a NEW item would have?! I am guessing this is a returned item, which is kind of gross. But returning it is a drag, and the handle does seem to work. Just saying...

Great Product

I use this for my work lunches and it fits a main meal and some sides and a can perfectly. you might have some trouble fitting a tupperware container or similar. Overall its a great cooler and works perfectly for what i need

Coolbox for Milk bottle delivery

I bought it for the milkman to put in the milk bottles. The cool box is easy to use and ideal fir this. You can get 4 milk bottles in easily. We may also take it with us fir beach picnics. Well made and useful coolbox.

Holds 8-9 cans, sturdy enough for work or play, works great

Ive has this cooler for months and this is what I’ve found so far. -I bring my lunches in hot and cold weather and the cooler keeps them to an edible cool temp - it fits about 8 maybe 9 beer or soda - I’ve dropped it out of my work truck numerous times and it’s still going strong - similar in size to a 12 pack Aside from scuffing it up I’m happy I got this cooler

A bit chunky but very effective

This is a good quality cool box and just the right size inside for a small picnic. The lid fastens securely and holds well when you pick the box up, even if it's full of heavy items like drinks. My only complaint is that it's too large to use as a lunch box, but as I wanted it to go in the car that's not a real issue. I have stuck some stick on velcro strips to the bottom to hold it to the carpet in the footwell and it's ideal to keep drinks and snacks cool when I'm on the road in hot weather. Even in the recent heatwave it's kept things cool for several hours.

Keeps milk lovely and cool

Sturdy and perfect size

Perfect size for summer lunches and enough room for my soup thermos during cold times. It gets tossed into the back of a work truck with all the gear so it does take a beating.
