Serves the purpose!
After becoming tired of asking my husband to move his shoes from near the front door, and having them pile up and fall over, I found this sensible solution. While it is a bit difficult to put together (I have to do some serious hammering) it eventually does come together nicely. The wood has a very nice finish and sturdy. While my husband still occasionally leaves his shoes around the place, the idea of getting him to use the shoe rack is now growing on him, my nerves are grateful! :) Update It's now March 2012 and while this shoe rack is still functional, I find that from time to time the crossbars detach from the sides, somehow the little wooden connections that hold everything together, 'walk' out of the holes they are made to be inserted into. As such, I have had to reduce the rating by one star.

Sturdy, aesthetic, and spacious
Even if you don't care about shoes you probably have quite a few. I didn't think I needed a shoe rack but after getting this one I realized that I alone (not even counting my wife's, though she doesn't care about them either) had a pair of walking shoes, of hiking boots, and of sneakers, and *two* pairs of dress shoes. They take up almost half the rack and thus spare the floor of my closet from a clutter of moderate proportions. This thing is a very efficient use of space: the shelves are perfectly distanced from each other for a large male shoe and they hold three or four pairs (four for female). It's a minor assembly project but the pre-drilled holes are well aligned and the sides are thoughtfully designed with grooves to hold the shelves, so the whole rack is unusually rigid and stable. The wood is well finished and I feel good about putting the whole thing right out in the open next to the door in full view of the living room.

Pretty Nice Shoe Rack
This shoe rack was easy to put together, under a 10 minute job. One screw per end of each board. I was hoping that the Cherry finish was a little more of a dark Cherry finish. It seemed a little light compared to the photo on Amazon.com. One of the boards wasn't perfect, it had some flaw to it, but I haven't noticed it after putting it together and using it. It's a nice shoe rack so far. It looks nice, much better than the cheap metal expanding shoe racks for $10-$15 at Wal-Mart. The metal shoe rack didn't even last 1 year before it broke. You get what you pay for. I have a feeling this shoe rack will last much longer, as long as the kids don't use it as a step up to look out the window:)

Have glue handy
One of the planks slit down the middle while being screwed together. Some of the screws needed to be reinforced due to stripping. I think its being held together more by glue then screws.

Sturdy and attractive
This shoe rack is easy to put together and, almost three years after I purchased it, still holding up well. The simple curves at the top add visual appeal, and the finish is nice and even. It would work in a closet, but it looks great next to my front door, too. My only caveat is that I wish the shelves were a few inches higher; regular shoes work on all levels, but hiking boots or anything else that extends over the ankle will only fit on the top rack.

works nicely
This wooden shoe holder is under my desk at work and holds all of my work shoes. It looks great and it extremely useful. The only problem is that this comes with the wrenches and doesn't use typical screws. The wrenches stripped the screws that came with the shoe rack. I ended up using normal screws and securing it with finishing nails. It ended up looking great and working well, but the additional headache with the setup was a pain!

Great affordable shoe rack
I bought this shoe rack because it was cheap and matches the decor in our house. I read the negative reviews and found none of the problems that other people had. I put it together in about 10 minutes. My one issue is that there were no real directions. Just a piece of paper with pictures of what to do. If you have no experience building things you'd probably have a hard time figuring it out.

Stable and Decent Looking
The bamboo shoe rack comes in 8 pieces, and includes the tool kit to assemble. There are eight heavy duty screws - and even the assembly-challenged should be able to put it together in a few minutes. Once assembled it is a relatively heavy duty and nice looking shoe rack that can easily accomodate three pairs of shoes per row. A better looking alternative to the often cheap-looking plastic shoe racks.

Great rack, fits a lot of shoes.
I really like this rack. it looks great and it's sturdy. Fits about 3 pairs of men's boots or four pairs of sneakers per shelf. Mine came with the necessary screws.

Incomplete shipment
The individual pieces of wood look nice enough, but unfortunately, individual pieces of wood are all you get in the box. Despite the "easy assembly in 10 minutes" sticker, none of the pictured screws or nuts, or anything with which to assemble said pieces of wood, are included. Currently awaiting a response from the shipper.
