Nice electric can-opener - with one flaw

After years of using my old electric can opener - which never seemed to catch the rim of the can the first time - I finally replaced it with this one. My primary consideration was price and for $20 this seemed like a good deal. And generally it is: it's easier to catch the rim of the can and it is a whole lot quieter than my old one. But... because it's made to be able to handle tall cans, it has a tall center of gravity and is thus pretty top heavy. This means a heavy can will pull it over and down if you're not steadying it with your hand. Most cans seem to balance, though a slight push could tip them. My solution? Well I probably have too much time on my hands but I found these tire balancing weights on Amazon - ACCRETION 1/2 Oz Black Adhesive Backed Wheel Weights (12 Oz Pack) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07RR141NW - and stuffed a bunch of them in the power cord compartment at the bottom of the can opener. They make the can opener more bottom heavy and now it works great!

Good product

This is a good product. The only dislike is working the magnetic arm. On the plus side it has knife sharpen on back of the device which Is a plus.

Can opener

Works well. Can be a little difficult getting the can lined up. At least compared the the one it has replaced. Noon the less it's doing the job just fine.

I needed a new can openeer and this one worked out1

I have purchased a number of can openers over the years and this one is not only streamline and sleek looking but it is very easy to use and does not jam. I never have to reposition the can nor do I have to stop and start over. Very affordable and fits nicely in y slim sized cupboard shelf

Rust spots.

This can opener is only 2 years old. It was not used that much and it has rust spots I can’t keep it on the counter

You have to be careful that the can is not too heavy. It will tip and you have to hold the opener.

The media could not be loaded. Hamilton Beach Automatic Can Opener, Electric, with Easy-Clean Detachable Cutting Lever, Knife Sharpener, Cord Storage, Brushed Stainless Steel (76700) I had manual can openers for most of my life and i tried the type of small battery powered electric openers that just clamp the can and "crawl" around the can -- but that broke within 1 year (after buying those openers 2x). I decided to buy a hefty tabletop one that is plug in this time. I will say this right up front: in my opinion, if you are able, you should just use a manual can opener. The only reason why i buy electric one is because i have folks in my house that find it difficult to clamp manual openers and twist and i'm not around to always help open cans. It is just yet another appliance you have to store and bring out or keep on countertop permanently. IF you c an help it, i recommend sticking to a manual opener. As for this Hamilton Beach opener? It is built well, and actually looks nice with the SS facia. Has a bit of heft weight to it which allows the opener to hold up a very heavy can (such as the one in my video) without tipping over. The usage is very simple: just clamp it down , and press the lever and you dont really need to hold the can while its turning. See video of full operation. There is a magnet to catch the lid after as with most electric openers as expected. Functionally it works great. I have no issues. Zero effort opener. I cannot comment on longevity yet because i've only had it for a few days. But it does look like it is built to last. It should basically last forever in my opinion. I would report back if it breaks within a year which is not acceptable. In terms of cleaning, the handle does come apart to expose the blade/cog. So if you do get the parts dirty , its easy to pull off the handle and just hand clean with a rag. That's something unique about this opener and i actually appreciate that it can be removed to aid cleaning. One last thing, it has this small "knife sharpener" on the back. It's just manual sharpener. You run your blade thru it like a fine honing stone. Nice to have but a dedicated sharpener is obviously better.

Do not waste your money.

Out of all the things I have purchased on Amazon over the years, this is probably the worst. Bought as a Christmas present, this piece of garbage is slower than a hand opener, much, much harder to use, and is incredibly frustrating to try and make it work. The good news is that today is March 6, it has stopped working altogether, and I never have to use it again. My wife gave up on it after 2 or 3 tries, but I persisted, trying to get the cutter part on the can without it dropping off. I have been "helping" it spin the can for a couple weeks now, since it no longer had the power to do it alone. I believe it finally lost it's will to live, which is exactly how I felt while using it. I do not understand how a brand like Hamilton Beach could write their name on this because here I am, swearing I will never buy anything they make, and urging all the good people of the world to avoid all their products at all cost. Life is too precious.

The opener is cheap and cans don't stay on

This isn’t the best can opener i had ever owned. It takes 5 or more tries to get the can to opener. The magnet is very weak and useless. Don’t buy this.
