Bought this as a christmas gift for a friend...

and he loved it! Its been a few years and he still uses it when he goes for a work out. Unfortunately he did not make it big in the MMA scene but he still enjoys the work out and will be continuing as a hobby!

Ohhh eww that smell!

For $13 and free shipping I figured I can't go wrong, so I pulled the trigger and bought a pair of these grappling gloves. My intention is to use them for some light work on the WaveMaster Heavy Bag I am supposed to get (Somehow UPS still has it listed as arriving at the Richmond VA facility and Amazon has shipped out another one to me!). When I first opened the package I was taken aback by the chemical smell of the gloves. The odor was quite noxious and disturbing. I wound up spraying "Odor Eaters" foot and sneaker spray in/on them to cut the smell while I had them air out. It is now a few days and the smell although not as strong is still there. I have found that a lot of products manufactured in China have a heavy chemical spray. BTW I cut the made in china tag out as it was rubbing into my hand. Thankfully I read some of the other opinions on this product before ordering. Usually I wear a large leather glove and was going to buy the large/XL. Thankfully, I did not order that size as the small/med fit me quite nicely. They are snug in the hand area and of course the Velcro strap fits my wrist fine too. I am going to assume that with use I will see it loosen up a bit. The stitching looks okay, some stray threads and a few mis-stitches. Also being that it is a single stitch vs a double I cannot imagine that this glove will last a super long time banging on a bag. The neoprene padding inside is quite stiff, and will take a little hitting around before it softens a bit making the fit of the glove and flexibility better. Overall for a few bux over 10, this is an okay glove to abuse. I won't worry too much if it falls apart in a few months. I give it 3 stars mainly because of the smell and the uncertainty of the quality. I will revisit this review in a month or so after I get a number of hours/hits with them. If they are holding up and the smell goes away, I will raise it to 4 stars. November 17, 2012 Update: Well the gloves are still going strong, the smell is finally gone. I am pounding on the bag at least every other day, so they are getting some mileage on them. So far other than a few minor threads coming loose, everything else is A-Okay! The gloves have softened up a little making them fit much better, the velcro is holding up fine and even the printing is holding strong with no sign of wearing off. Overall I have raised this another star. Actually more like a star and 1/2, still the original smell and loose threads keep this from being a 5 star product.

Misleading Reviews, Thin Padding, OK gloves...

I'm convinced the 4-5 star feedback reviews are mostly scam. I bought these with hesitation, given the mixed reviews it had already. I read more than a few that people recommend these for heavy bag training. Look... I'm 5'7" and weigh 200 lbs. (although most people say I look lighter). I've been using 12-14 ounce boxing gloves and wanted to try MMA gloves again. I am not new to the sport, although I'm not an expert either; however, I know how to use the heavy bag. Opening the package: My first impression was "Wow...the padding sure is thin." How in the world can a supposed heavyweight with power punches (in reference to one of the 4 or 5 star reviews) use these on a heavy bag? But hey, they fit (X/XL) and they're light. During heavy bag training: I immediately felt that the padding was way too thin, however, I loved my speed with them on. I throw power punches as well. Again, I'm not a big guy, but my hands are wide, so smalls or mediums never work for me. Yet, more than half of my fingers were exposed, which caused friction. Given that these are large, they should have been made just a tad but longer. My hands are average size in length but wider than most. I also noticed the thread coming undone (which isn't a big deal but thought I'd mention it). After my 15 minute training: I took off my gloves and noticed my knuckles and fingers not only red but also peeled skin! I don't really care for that, the skin will heal, but c'mon. I've gone 16 rounds with thr heavy bag back to back (days) without hand wraps and that never happened. Conclusion: It basically felt like I had hand wraps on with no gloves. THESE ARE NOT MEANT FOR HEAVY BAG TRAINING PEOPLE. Do not get these gloves to hit the heavy bag. The comments that encourage heavy bag training are not to be trusted. The reason why I give this 3 stars instead of 1 is because the label actually leaves out heavy bag training. The advertising is correct, it's the reviews that are misleading... Follow up: I will update my review after I try these gloves with hand wraps. Maybe that'll prevent my knuckles from being skinned while I hit the bag. UPDATE: I tried these with hand wraps and they were actually a whole better. I won't change my rating because they should include this information on the packaging. I will use these gloves until they fall apart on me, since I'm using the heaving bag every other day -- the threading is undoing more and more each session.

Decent for the price but better to invest in high quality gloves

I used them through the Amazon Wardrobe to check it out. Used it for bag work, sparring and wrestling I like the bit of extra space for use of handwraps. I like the thumbhole as it made a difference when grappling and getting a solid grip. I think the material feels like it would break after a few hard weeks, as usually is the case with most Everlast products I have used. These gloves require handwrap use because it has no wrist support. Honestly, I would not spend money on these, if I am going to invest in gloves its better to pay an extra 20 dollars or so to get a high end brand because the quality makes a huge difference when you actually use them regularly.

good glove get s/m and also use wraps

ok so i would have given it five stars but there are some things that made me give it four instead. its a great glove for the price its a little stiff but thats normal hopefully the more you use it the softer it gets. The material inside that covers the knuckles is a bit weird in the sense that i opened 2 wounds on my knuckles after using them without wraps. that being said BUY WRAPS they're like $5 on amazon. Finally the last issue was sizing. GET S/M the large is huuuuge unless you have the hands of a f****** gorilla then get sm. that is all TL;DR great glove, buy wraps, get the s/m UPDATE: been a while and the gloves are still good. no longer stiff all it takes it time. buy the wraps

Fit large.

Bought two pairs of these. S/M for my wife and L/XL for me. My hands are not unusually small by any means. The S/M fit very well for me, way too big for her. Unless you've got some big mitts don't consider the L/XL. First impression with them in use, could use more padding but not bad overall.
