Great tripod grill for the price

I have had a few of these tri-pod grills and have usually gone for the more expensive heavy duty ones when I used a large 32' camper, but I wanted a lighter weight one that breaks down for storage in my new little teardrop camper. I used it almost exclusively for a week long camping trip in Maine. Used it for every meal from bacon and eggs to steaks. It worked really well and I did not have a problem with cooking on it. Set up was straight forward and easy I did not have to look at the instructions. My only complaint was that one leg did not want to connect together. You have to line up the divets on one section of leg to the channel in the other piece then push down and twist. one of the pieces on one leg did not want to go together easily and I had to force it together. Now (not shockingly) it wont come apart. I'll have to just use some brute force or borrow someone with bigger muscles than I have to get it apart. I did not find it to be weak like others have stated. No, its not as sturdy as some of the other ones I have had but for the price its really pretty good. I only cooked for two people on it and only used the grill as I do not have a hanging cast iron pot (yet).

Very handy

Ok so I am just going to make a couple of points that I didn't see covered in other reviews. This is a great grill for fire grilling. It does not need to be precariously balanced on rocks and logs, it does not require level ground, and unlike other grills it is infinatly adjustable. Have you ever had a perfect bed of coals not last long enough to grill your food? Then your grill goes cold or you add wood and your grill is too hot. This grill adjusts up and down to accommodate for the constantly changing heat of a wood fire. Another thing is if your fire is cooking unevenly you can give this grill a gentle spin and it will spin back and forth over the flames giving all your food an even time over the hotter and cooler parts of your fire. Finally I would like to address all the peoples points about how it is difficult to flip your food because the grill swings when you try. Simply adjust your grill up until it is touching all three legs. The legs will steady your grill while you flip your food. Then adjust it back down to whatever height you were cooking at. And that is it. Lots of bang for a few bucks

Could improve on quality

This product is lightweight and easy to assemble. However, the first and only time we used it the chain did not hold up and broke off over the fire spilling the food we were cooking. Due to that, I probably wouldn’t recommend.

First use all the food fell off the grill...

First of all, they give you three chains to balance the grill... you better be an engineer and be able to calculate weight and balance perfectly or you'll have your food fall into the fire like I did... get anything slightly off center and it tips the grill... I've since added a 4th chain to more evenly balance the grill so that if you move something you don't have to worry about it tipping and dumping all your burgers and such into the fire pit... Nice idea but they should put some sort of marking on the grill as to where to specifically put the chain clips so that it stays in balance... but even then I doubt it would... 4th chain made it perfectly balanced all the time...

Best of the best for tri-pod grills and camping!

I've had 2 other brands and returned them or gave them away to people I don't like. This one will stay with me. Tri-pod tubes are self-attaching with bungees, thicker aluminum rods, spring loaded at top to keep them together, ground ends have sharp stake like points, nice sliding design for the chain to raise and lower are just some of the features I noticed immediately. Coleman did it right on this one! You can't do better for the $$$$$ The only thing that would make this slicker (and I would pay a little more too) would be to have a carrying case for it so it stays together in the RV.

Sturdy Coleman unit for cooking

We set it up in the front yard to see how sturdy it is. We were very pleasantly surprised. It will have no issues there. We put in my large cast iron frying pan and It was very sturdy. It has no problem holding it up. We’ll be taking it for a trial run this weekend and I’ll update my reviews on how it performs in real life application

got this out of the warehouse deals section so the value was good enough. this tripod got used extensively throughout a 2 night camp and did it's job well. I was concerned that the bungees inside the legs would burn but they held up, just be sure to keep your fire from getting too high and take the tripod off when not cooking. I say for 2 or 3 people since the grill isn't so huge or stable to have multiple heavy pots or pans on at the same time w/o losing balance on the grill. my only concern so far for this product is the stamped twist locks on each leg section, some are poorly formed so don't function properly, one star for that.

Awful product.

If I could give it a zero star, I would. I bought one awhile ago and it broke as I was putting the legs together. As you twist the bars to supposely lock it, you are comprising the rope inside. I figured I may have been too rough, so I bought another one a few week's ago. I was very gentle but still as you twist the rope snapped again. The legs would not lock in place. I threw it out. So cheap.

Me funciono a la perfeccion

Hay algunos puntos que hay que cuidar al usarlo. 1.- Déjalo lo más separado del fuego o se quemaran las cuerdas que trae por dentro y revisa que no se estén calentando los tubos. 2.- Entierralo bien para que no se vaya a abrir. 3.- Se siente muy endeble pero ya clavado al piso funciona muy bien.

the elastic that holds the legs together broke after first use

This works nicely on the fire. Its nice that you can adjust the height to the height of the fire. However the poles have elastics in them like a tent pole and the elastic broke after the first use. I can still use the grill, it just doesn't store nicely now.
