This review is for the Greenworks 17 inch mower - tool only I bought this mower a little over a year ago to replace a first generation Greenworks 40 volt 16 inch mower that I bought seven years ago from Amazon. I needed a mower that could adjust to a cutting height well over 3 inches for summer mowing. The Amazon listing stated that the maximum cutting height was 3-3/8 inches, but when I received the mower it was only 2-3/4 inches. I managed to raised the height over 3 inches by installing larger front wheels, but it was still a bit low for my needs. When I saw that this new mower had a maximum cutting height of 3-3/8 inches according to the Amazon listing, I bought it only to find out that it too was incorrectly specified, and the actual maximum height is only 3-1/8", which is again lower than I would like it to be. In both cases, the true correct maximum cutting height is shown in the Greenworks manuals, but the Amazon listings are incorrect. I've also found that the Greenworks website contains the incorrect specifications, so ultimately Greenworks is at fault for providing erroneous information for the product listings on Amazon. Another problem is that Greenworks provides incorrect answers to questions posted on Amazon. I asked if this mower had the Smartcut feature, which ramps up the power when the mower encounters hard cutting conditions, and Greenworks Tech replied yes. In fact, this mower does not have this feature, and just runs at one speed, regardless of the cutting conditions. As a result, it uses up the battery charge very quickly, and I get about half the mowing time that I used to get with the same capacity battery in my old mower. The height adjustment mechanism on this mower is beyond terrible. You have to press down very hard on the release button while at the same time lifting the mower up by the handle. It's necessary to lift the mower completely off the ground to get the mower deck into the highest cutting positions. The bottom of the handle is open with very sharp reinforcing ribs, and the first time I lifted it, I actually cut my hard on some unfinished plastic edges, so a heavy glove is required to prevent injury. The label with the height position indicator markings was not aligned properly, so it is very difficult to tell exactly what position the mower deck is on. This whole system is totally inferior to the old single handle mechanism, and the only reason that this change was made was to reduce manufacturing costs, because it is much simpler. General quality is poor. The front left wheel was badly bent inward, almost hitting the deck and the mower kept wanting to make a left turn when rolling across the driveway. The wheels are very lumpy and wobbly, almost Flintstones like. I had to remove the front axle and bend it in my bench vise to correct this problem. The mower has a lot of vibration, which can be felt in the handlebar, and almost feels like my old gas lawnmower. It is also very loud when compared to my old cordless electric lawnmower. The mulch plug is almost impossible to remove or install, and I had to grind off some material to make it fit properly. Cheap, cheap, cheap. On the positive side, nothing has broken so far, it's easy to push and it does cut the grass, so I'm willing to give it two stars. But, if I had to do it all over again, I would never have purchased this mower and would have bought another brand. Do not recommend.
